Abstract

This study aimed to develop Tuts Board assisted by video tutorials as a learning medium for melodica instruction in extracurricular activities at SMP Negeri 29 Padang. The development of this learning medium was motivated by field observations showing that students still experienced difficulties in recognizing note positions on the melodica keys, understanding fingering techniques, and reviewing learning materials independently outside scheduled practice sessions. Therefore, a learning medium was needed to help students understand the material more concretely, systematically, and in an accessible manner. This study employed a Research and Development (R&D) method. The stages of the study included field observation, preliminary study, media design, product development, validation, revision, and limited trials. The Tuts Board media was designed using the Canva application, while the video tutorials were produced using the CapCut application. The research instruments consisted of material validation sheets, media validation sheets, and student practicality questionnaires. The data were analyzed using descriptive quantitative techniques through mean score calculation. The results showed that the Tuts Board assisted by video tutorials was categorized as valid and practical. Material validation obtained an average score of 4.75, media validation obtained an average score of 4.79, and the student practicality test obtained an average score of 4.74. These findings indicate that the developed media is feasible to be used as an alternative learning medium for melodica instruction in extracurricular activities at SMP Negeri 29 Padang.

Abstract

Marching band extracurricular activities become a medium for students to develop musical skills, discipline, cooperation, and responsibility. One of the important instruments in marching band is the trumpet, which requires mastery of breathing techniques, embouchure, articulation, and body coordination. This study aims to describe students’ perceptions of trumpet learning in marching band extracurricular activities among active and inactive participants at SMA Negeri 3 Padang. This study used a quantitative descriptive approach with survey methods. The population consisted of 30 students participating in trumpet learning activities in the extracurricular marching band program. The sampling technique used purposive sampling by grouping students into active and inactive participants. Data was collected through questionnaires, observation, interviews, and documentation. The results showed that students’ perceptions of trumpet learning were generally in the good category. Positive perceptions were influenced by learning materials, learning methods, the role of coaches and instructors, facilities and environment, as well as the benefits and students’ interest in continuing learning. Active participants tended to have more positive perceptions because they were more involved in practice activities and experienced better skill development compared to inactive participants.

Abstract

This study aims to reveal, describe, and analyze the Alang Babega Dance Movement at the Alang Babega Dance Studio in Padang City. The type of research used is qualitative with a descriptive analytical approach. The research instrument is the researcher himself who is assisted by supporting instruments such as stationery, mobile phones, and documentation. Data collection techniques are carried out through observation, interviews, and documentation, while data analysis is carried out through data collection, data reduction, data presentation, and drawing conclusions. The results of the study show that the Alang Babega Dance is a creative dance work originating from the Minangkabau pencak silat (silek) technique created by Gusmiati Suid and preserved at the Alang Babega Dance Studio, with 12 types of movements. This dance is analyzed through aspects of space, time, and energy. In the spatial aspect, the line elements include curved, straight, diagonal, and zigzag lines with a dominance of zigzag lines that give a dynamic impression, the volume includes medium and large with a dominance of medium volume, the direction of facing includes front, side, and back with a dominance of the front direction, the level includes low, medium, and high with a dominance of medium level, and the focus of view includes front, side, bottom, and back with a dominant tendency towards the front. In the time aspect, tempo and rhythm include slow, medium, and fast with a dominance of medium tempo and rhythm that gives the impression of stable movement. In the energy aspect, the intensity includes medium and strong with a dominance of medium intensity, the dominant pressure of movement is strong, and the quality of movement tends to be strong. Thus, the movements of the Alang Babega Dance have a firm, energetic, agile, and sturdy character that represents the theme of the dance, namely the image of an eagle that moves agilely and dynamically (babega) combined with the basic movements of Minangkabau silek. This character is reflected through the processing of elements of space, time, and energy that are interrelated in every variety of movement, thus presenting a dynamic, alert, strong, and free impression as the character of an eagle. The Alang Babega Dance Studio plays an important role in maintaining the sustainability, preservation, and inheritance of the Alang Babega Dance to the younger generation as part of the Minangkabau cultural identity.

Abstract

This study aims to describe and analyze the process of instilling character values in students through dance extracurricular activities at SMA Negeri 5 Lubuklinggau. The research focuses on three dimensions of the Profil Pelajar Pancasila (Pancasila Student Profile): Independence (Mandiri), Mutual Cooperation (Bergotong Royong), and Global Diversity (Berkebinekaan Global). This study employs a descriptive qualitative research model. The primary instrument is the researcher, supported by observation sheets, interviews, and photo and video documentation. The subjects of this research consist of 15 students participating in the dance extracurricular program. The research was conducted over 12 sessions, following the established schedule of the dance extracurricular at SMA Negeri 5 Lubuklinggau on Fridays and Saturdays. The results indicate that dance extracurricular activities effectively serve as a medium for instilling student character values. Through the Tari Rantak material, which was selected by students via a voting process, character values were developed through habitualization (habits) from the first to the twelfth sessions. The dimension of Independence is evidenced by individual accountability regarding time management and movement mastery. Mutual Cooperation is reflected in movement synchronization, team discussions, and student collaboration, while Global Diversity is demonstrated through students' appreciation and enthusiasm for learning dances from other cultures. Despite being conducted during the month of Ramadan, the instillation of character values was consistently achieved. Thus, the cultivation of student character values through dance extracurricular activities at SMA Negeri 5 Lubuklinggau has been successfully implemented.

Abstract

The low learning outcomes in Arts and Culture (Dance) in Class VIII C of SMP Negeri 01 Sungai Penuh are caused by the inappropriate application of cooperative learning models and low student activity and participation, resulting in average student scores not reaching the established Minimum Learning Objective Completion Criteria (KKTP) of 83. This study aims to describe the improvement in student learning outcomes after implementing the Think, Pair and Share (TPS) cooperative learning model. This research is a Classroom Action Research (CAR) with a qualitative approach. The subjects were 28 students in class VIII C. The study was conducted in two cycles, each consisting of planning, action, observation, and reflection. Data collection techniques used written tests (cognitive) consisting of 25 objective questions and 7 essay questions, observation of student activities (covering visual, oral, listening, mental, and emotional activities), and documentation. The results showed that the application of the TPS model could improve student learning outcomes. In Cycle I, the average score of students' written tests reached 79.14 with a completion percentage of 35.7% ("good" criteria). After improvements in Cycle II, the average score increased to 94.07 with a completion percentage of 86% ("very good" criteria). Student learning activities also increased dramatically, especially in visual activities indicators (from 29% to 87.17%) and emotional activities (from 11% to 87.28%). This study concludes that the application of the Think, Pair and Share (TPS) cooperative learning model is effective in improving student learning outcomes in Arts and Culture (Dance). It is recommended that teachers explore variations of this learning model and that future researchers apply it to different scopes of material.

Abstract

This study aims to identify and describe the factors causing low student motivation toward dance learning at SMP Negeri 1 Sutera in Sutera Subdistrict, Pesisir Selatan Regency. This is a qualitative study using a descriptive method. The research instrument was the researcher herself, assisted by writing materials and a camera. Data was collected through observation, interviews, and documentation. The steps for analyzing the data are data collection, data description, data identification, data analysis, and data conclusion. The results of the study indicate that the factors causing low student motivation stem from both internal and external factors. Internal factors include students’ lack of attention during lessons; they rarely listen to the teacher’s explanations, resulting in weak understanding of the theory. When the teacher plays a video, many students are indifferent; regarding practical learning, only a few students follow the teacher’s instructions while the rest play around, making the practical learning environment less conducive. As for external factors, facilities and infrastructure do not adequately support practical learning activities such as props, practice spaces, and sound systems resulting in low student engagement in dance education at SMP Negeri 1 Sutera.

Abstract

Abstract This study aims to understand and describe the process of implementing dance art learning at SMA Negeri 1 Lengayang, Lengayang District, Pesisir Selatan Regency. This type of research is qualitative research with a descriptive method. The research instrument is the researcher themselves, assisted with writing tools and a camera. Data is collected through literature review, observation, interviews and documentation. The steps in analysing the data are data collection, data reduction, data presentation, and drawing conclusions. The results of the study show that the implementation of dance art learning at SMA Negeri 1 Lengayang, Lengayang District, Pesisir Selatan Regency has three stages, namely planning, implementation, and evaluation. In the planning stage, the teacher structures learning by referring to the Merdeka Curriculum teaching module which contains learning outcomes, learning objectives, learning objectives, learning objective sequences, methods, media, and assessments. At the implementation stage, learning was conducted over four meetings held gradually, with the first meeting discussing the meaning and symbols of dance, the second meeting discussing the function of the meaning and symbols of dance, the third meeting discussing the meaning and symbols in dance makeup and costumes, and the fourth meeting discussing the meaning and symbols in levels and floor patterns. In its implementation, the learning activities went through the preliminary, main, and closing stages, but the teacher still tended to use a lecture method combined with question-and-answer sessions and utilising simple media such as textbooks and blackboards, resulting in low student involvement and activity and a teacher-centred approach to learning. At the evaluation stage, assessment emphasises more on formative assessment carried out continuously through observations of student participation, discussions, and presentations, as well as providing direct feedback to understand their grasp of the material, whereas summative assessment is not specifically conducted in the form of final tests.

The research instrument is the researcher themselves, assisted by writing tools and a camera. Data is collected through literature study, observation, interviews and documentation. The steps of data analysis are data collection, data reduction, data presentation and data triangulation. The results show that the form of Tambua Tasa presentation in the wedding procession by the Bacenang Art Group in Lubuk Basung consists of the wedding procession and elements of performance form. The Tambua Tasa presentation procession at a wedding celebration in Lubuk Basung begins with the preparation stage, followed by the groom's procession to the bride's house with Bacenang Art starting to form the parade line and Tambua Tasa players performing various energetic rhythm patterns with an increasing tempo. Once the bridal party arrives at the bride's house and the traditional welcoming ceremony is completed, the Bacenang Art Group performs the closing repertoire with a gradually slowing tempo. The elements of the performance consist of players, musical instruments, floor patterns, performance time and place, and the audience. The number of players in a single performance usually ranges from 7 to 11 people. The musical instruments used are Tambua and Tasa, talempong, Pupuik Tanduak, the costumes worn are guntiang cino clothes or traditional Minang silek attire, with galemobong trousers, and additional headbands such as deta. Tambua Tasa performances by the Bacenang Art Group are usually held in the afternoon before the akad ceremony and the audience for Tambua Tasa performances usually comes from various segments of society.
