Abstract

Dengue is a viral disease transmitted by the Aedes aegypti mosquito, whose incidence constitutes a public health problem in tropical and subtropical regions. The objective of the study was to analyze the social determinants of health influencing the incidence of dengue in the community affiliated with the Miraflores Health Center in the canton of 24 de Mayo, Ecuador. A descriptive, explanatory, cross-sectional study using a quantitative approach was conducted from October 2024 to March 2025, with a sample of 60 residents selected through non-probabilistic sampling. Data were collected through structured surveys and direct observation and analyzed using descriptive statistics. The results showed that young adults, mostly women, were the most affected, presenting fever, headache, and myalgia as predominant symptoms. It was concluded that social determinants such as poor sanitation, persistent breeding sites, and domestic hygiene practices influence dengue transmission, highlighting the need for comprehensive and educational interventions in the community.

Abstract

This study conducted a bibliometric analysis of global research trends on student-centered learning (SCL) in schools over the past decade (2014–2024), using R-Biblioshiny and VoS Viewer software. The purpose of this study was to map the development of SCL research, identify the most productive authors and institutions, and explore dominant emerging themes in the literature. The analysis revealed a significant increase in SCL publications starting in 2018, with a primary focus on 21st-century skills such as critical thinking, creativity, collaboration, and communication. The Journal of Chemical Education was the primary publication source, with authors and institutions such as Dolezal D and Yogyakarta State University making particularly prolific contributions. Thematic mapping revealed that topics such as problem-solving and collaborative learning remained dominant, but there was a decline in the popularity of SCL and e-learning. These findings provide important insights for educational researchers and practitioners in designing more adaptive and inclusive learning strategies in the global era.

Abstract

This study proposes a federated heterogeneous graph neural network framework for enhancing lecturer digital competence through privacy-preserving, cross-institutional collaboration. Traditional recommender systems frequently encounter challenges associated with data silos and privacy constraints, thereby limiting their capacity to deliver personalized professional development recommendations. The proposed framework addresses these challenges by modeling lecturer–institution–resource interactions as a heterogeneous graph, wherein nodes represent lecturers, institutions, courses, and resources, while edges capture their complex relational structures. A relation-aware graph attention network is employed to learn node embeddings locally, thereby enabling institutions to train models without sharing raw data. Furthermore, the framework integrates federated split learning with differential privacy, ensuring that intermediate outputs are perturbed with Gaussian noise prior to secure aggregation. The global model generates personalized recommendations by computing compatibility scores between lecturer and resource embeddings, subsequently ranking these to suggest relevant micro-courses or workshops. Experimental results demonstrate that the framework achieves 94.3% of centralized model performance while maintaining provable (1.0, 10⁻⁵)-differential privacy guarantees, significantly outperforming existing federated baselines in both recommendation accuracy and system efficiency. These findings contribute to the growing body of knowledge on data-driven human resource development and institutional data governance in higher education.

Abstract

This study aims to examine the discursive construction of the Free Nutritious Meals (MBG) program in Kompas.com. Using a qualitative approach and Norman Fairclough’s three-dimensional model of Critical Discourse Analysis (CDA), this study focuses on textual, discursive, and social practices in two Kompas.com news reports: “Targeting Zero Cases of MBG Food Poisoning by 2026, BGN: God Guarantees” (January 8, 2026) and “Chamber of Commerce: MBG Program Has the Potential to Boost Economic Growth” (January 15, 2026). The analytical framework conceptualizes language as a non-neutral social practice embedded with power relations and ideology. The findings reveal that both articles construct the MBG program through two distinct discursive formations. First, a technocratic-religious discourse that combines policy rationality with symbolic legitimacy through the narrative of “God guarantees.” Second, an economic-productivist discourse that frames MBG as an instrument of economic growth by stimulating market demand. Third, at the ideological level, the discourse reflects the integration of state interests, market forces, and cultural values in shaping public perceptions of the MBG program. This study contributes to critical media discourse studies by integrating technocratic, religious, and economic discourses within a single analytical framework, particularly in the context of contemporary public policy coverage in Indonesia.

Abstract

This paper explores the intricate relationship between classical Islamic jurisprudence (fiqh) and modern legal systems in the context of family law reforms across Muslim-majority countries. It investigates how the concept of maqasid al-shari’ah serves as a crucial hermeneutic tool in navigating this tension, facilitating the integration of ethical considerations and human rights principles into contemporary legal frameworks. This approach allows for a flexible interpretation of Islamic law, moving beyond rigid adherence to classical texts to address issues such as women's rights and gender equity more effectively. This chapter outlines the research methodology employed to investigate the reform of Islamic Family Law, focusing on the interplay between classical fiqh and modern legal systems. The study utilizes a qualitative research design, employing a comparative analysis of legal reforms across various Muslim-majority countries to identify common trends and unique challenges. The methodology integrates both philosophical-textual analysis of primary Islamic legal texts and empirical data from fieldwork to provide a comprehensive understanding of the reform dynamics. The results show the ongoing reform of Islamic family law in Muslim-majority countries represents a complex yet vital endeavor to reconcile deeply rooted classical fiqh with the evolving demands of modern legal systems and societal expectations. This reform process frequently leverages the maqasid al-shari’ah as a foundational framework for reinterpreting Islamic legal principles, thereby ensuring that legal innovations promote justice, welfare, and equality within contemporary societal contexts. This study contributes both theoretically and empirically to the understanding of how Muslim-majority countries reconcile classical Islamic jurisprudence with contemporary legal reforms in the field of family law.

Abstract

This systematic review synthesizes 42 empirical studies retrieved from a single database (Scopus) published from January 2020 to April 2026 to construct a developmental account of rhetorical competence in EFL academic writing. Moving beyond the established finding that genre-based instruction improves writing quality, the review examines the phases through which rhetorical competence appears to develop and the conditions that mediate its progression. Using thematic synthesis, three developmental phases are identified: genre consciousness, structural control, and argumentative sophistication—spanning learners' progression from recognizing genre conventions to acquiring discourse resources and ultimately developing epistemic stance management, multilayered argumentation, and rhetorical agency. This review finds that each phase transition requires qualitatively different instructional conditions and a progressively greater contribution from the learner's agentive engagement, with gains in genre recognition not automatically translating into discourse-level control, nor discourse-level control automatically yielding argumentative sophistication. Five mediating conditions emerged as recurring patterns: scaffolding quality, metalinguistic explicitness, learner agentive engagement, technological and multimodal mediation, and cross-cultural and L1 rhetorical influence. The model is offered as empirically grounded hypotheses rather than a validated developmental theory. Limitations include reliance on a single database, regional concentration in East and Southeast Asia, and the absence of longitudinal evidence. Future research should prioritize longitudinal designs, geographical diversification, and culturally responsive assessment frameworks. This study contributes a phase-sensitive developmental framework that reframes rhetorical competence as a layered construct developing through different mechanisms at different rates, shifting the analytical lens from whether genre-based instruction works toward how and under what conditions rhetorical development progresses.

Abstract

The current environmental crisis not only reflects ecological degradation but also indicates a moral and spiritual decline, particularly in urban areas. Rapid urbanization has generated consumptive and exploitative lifestyles that erode ecological awareness, especially among students. In this context, Islamic education plays a crucial role in shaping environmentally responsible character grounded in faith-based values. This study aims to examine how Islamic values are integrated into environmental education in urban Islamic schools, with a specific focus on the implementation of the Adiwiyata program at MIN 1 Malang. This research employed a qualitative approach using a case study method. Data were collected through in-depth interviews with the principal and Adiwiyata program coordinators, observations of environmental activities, and analysis of relevant school documents. The findings reveal that Islamic values such as khalifah fil ardh (stewardship of the earth), amanah (trust), and rahmatan lil ‘alamin (mercy to all creation) have been effectively internalized through various initiatives, including the Sedekah Sampah (Waste Almsgiving) program, Green Friday activities, and thematic religious studies on environmental responsibility. These activities not only promote cleanliness and waste management practices but also cultivate students’ spiritual responsibility toward nature. The study concludes that the integration of Islamic values into environmental education strengthens students’ character formation and serves as an effective approach to addressing urban ecological challenges. Furthermore, this research offers a conceptual contribution to curriculum development and value-based educational practices in Islamic elementary schools.

Abstract

Jamali Village, experiences dry-season water scarcity that affects household water availability. This study assesses the potential of household-scale rainwater harvesting (RWH) as a supplementary domestic water source during the dry season. The analysis was conducted by estimating household water demand, evaluating rainfall availability, calculating roof catchment potential, and determining the required storage capacity and implementation cost. Rainfall data from 2015 to 2024 were obtained from NASA POWER and analyzed using the reliable rainfall approach. The household water demand was estimated at 100 liters/person/day, with an assumed four occupants per house, resulting in a daily demand of 400 liters/household. The catchment area was based on a representative roof area of 96 m². The results show that a household-scale RWH system with a 1 m³ storage tank can contribute to domestic water supply, but its performance varies seasonally. During the dry season, particularly from June to August, the system can meet approximately 16.87% of household water demand, while the remaining 83.13% must be supplied from other water sources. The estimated cost of installing the RWH system is IDR 2,701,274 per household. These findings indicate that RWH cannot fully replace existing water sources during the dry season, but it can serve as a supplementary strategy to reduce dependence on external water supplies in drought-prone areas. This study contributes to sustainable water resource management by providing empirical evidence on the technical and economic feasibility of household-scale RWH and offering practical insights for climate-resilient, decentralized water supply planning in rural communities.

Abstract

This study aims to explore burnout among service-sector employees and examine how Human Resource Management (HRM) strategies can break the burnout cycle through a well-being-oriented approach. The research employed a qualitative method with a phenomenological design to gain a deeper understanding of employees’ lived experiences regarding workplace stress and burnout. Data were collected through in-depth interviews with service-sector employees in Ciamis, Indonesia, who regularly face high work demands and intensive customer interaction. The findings reveal that burnout is primarily caused by excessive workload, time pressure, emotional labor, and continuous interaction with customers, which often leads to emotional exhaustion and decreased work motivation. In addition, inadequate organizational support, limited appreciation, and insufficient opportunities for recovery further intensify burnout conditions among employees. Nevertheless, the study also demonstrates that effective HRM strategies can significantly reduce burnout and improve employee well-being. Supportive leadership, flexible work arrangements, employee recognition, training programs, and open communication were identified as important factors in creating a healthier work environment. Employee well-being emerges as a crucial mechanism that mediates the relationship between job demands and burnout. This study highlights the importance of integrating employee well-being into HRM practices to maintain sustainable employee performance and organizational effectiveness.
