Abstract

Background: There was an increase in the incidence of abdominal obesity among women of childbearing age in Indonesia. Impact on reproductive health such as sub infertility, irregular menstruation, and PCOS. Abdominal obesity also causes problems during pregnancy. Objective: This study aimed to analyze the association of demographics and patterns of food consumption with abdominal obesity in women of childbearing age in Indonesia. Method: This study used a cross-sectional design. The data used from Basic Health Research 2018. The total sample size was 29,888 respondents. Data analysis was performed by the Chi-Square test. Results: The result found the prevalence of abdominal obesity in women of childbearing age was 49.4%. Demographic factors associated with abdominal obesity were age, marital status, education level, and type of region. Patterns of food consumption associated were fatty foods/cholesterol/fried foods and burnt/grilled foods, with a risky frequency of more than 3 times per week. Conclusion: One of two women of childbearing age in Indonesia was abdominal obesity so we should make efforts to reduce this incidence with notice in demographic factors and dietary intake. Women of childbearing age need to avoid risky foods to maintain reproductive health and reduce the risk of cardiovascular disease, which increases with age.

Abstract

Assessing Knowledge about Mother-to-Child Transmission of HIV/AIDS Among Married Women in Indonesia Background: The transmission of HIV/AIDS will affect not only women but also their families, including their children’s health and future. Given the quite high rates of vertical transmission as well as early infant transmission, understanding mother-to-child transmission (MTCT) of HIV/AIDS is important for women. Objective: This study aims to examine knowledge about the MTCT of HIV/AIDS among married women and the contributing factors. Method: A weighted sample of 35,479 married women aged 15-49 was drawn from the 2017 Indonesia Demographic and Health Survey. Binary logistic regression for complex sample design was used to examine the associated factors of HIV/AIDS MTCT. Result: Overall, only 58.6% of women had good knowledge of HIV/AIDS MTCT. Women with a comprehensive knowledge of HIV/AIDS (OR: 7.27, 95% CI:6.75-7.83), aged ≥ 35 years (OR:1.33, 95% CI:1.19-1.47), attaining at least secondary education level (OR:1.85, 95% CI:1.71-1.99), having an educated husband (OR: 1.28, 95% CI: 1.11-1.47), coming from richer family (OR:1.41, 95% CI: 1.29-1.54), and residing in urban areas (OR: 1.23, 95% CI:1.13-1.33) tend to have better knowledge of HIV/AIDS MTCT. Conclusion: Enhancing comprehensive knowledge of HIV/AIDS among women and men through both formal and informal education curricula is expected to increase knowledge about MTCT of HIV/AIDS.

Abstract

Background: Diarrhea in infants aged 0-6 months is one of the leading causes of morbidity and mortality in developing countries. Objective: This study aims to analyze the relationship between early complementary feeding, personal hygiene habits, sanitation system conditions, availability of waste/trash bins, and household sewage systems on the incidence of diarrhea in infants. Method: This analytical observational study used a cross-sectional design conducted at the Borong Health Centre, East Manggarai Regency, NTT. A total of 51 mothers of infants aged 0–6 months were selected using total population sampling. Data were collected through interviews and observations using a questionnaire and then analyzed with bivariate and multivariate tests. Results: Bivariate analysis showed significant associations between ECF, availability of proper trash bins, and household wastewater disposal systems with diarrhea (p < 0.05). ECF increased the risk of diarrhea by 3.95 times, while poor trash bin availability increased the risk by 4.00 times. Multivariate analysis showed risk trends but no statistical significance after adjusting for confounders. Conclusion: Early complementary feeding, availability of waste bins, and household sanitation systems play important roles in increasing the risk of diarrhea among infants aged 0-6 months.

Abstract

Background: Maternal and child health issues remain significant in Indonesia, partly due to limited understanding among brides regarding preconception health and healthy pregnancy planning. Method: We utilized a qualitative phenomenological approach. Participants included five brides, three marriage officials from the Religious Official (RO), and three health workers at the public health center (PHC). Data were collected through in-depth interviews, observations, and documentation, then analyzed using the Braun and Clarke method. Results: Findings reveal that brides have limited knowledge of preconception health, while health workers and RO officers face constraints in providing preconception education due to time and resource limitations. Conclusion: This study highlights the urgent need for more comprehensive and effective preconception education to support healthy pregnancy planning.
