Abstract

Waqf constitutes the economic foundation of Islamic civilization, as noted by historian Marshall Hodgson. This paper examines waqf’s untapped potential in India’s contemporary economy, where 38% of Muslims live in poverty despite the presence of waqf properties valued at 1.2 trillion Indian Rupees according to the Sachar Committee Report. The inefficiencies in waqf administration originated during colonial rule when imperial powers, viewing these endowments financially lucrative, appointed supervisors based primarily on language proficiency rather than expertise. Post-colonial governments perpetuated this interventionist approach through legislative amendments that enhanced state control, despite recommendations from various inquiry committees. Administrative inconsistencies have undermined waqf’s effectiveness, exemplified by the Central Waqf Council’s chairperson simultaneously serving as the portfolio minister-creating a problematic governance structure where 1% of annual returns fund this self-referential advisory mechanism. Such administrative disorders significantly contribute to the continued socioeconomic vulnerability of India’s Muslim community. Historical analysis reveals waqf’s profound impact on social welfare systems across civilizations, influencing European philanthropic models as evidenced by the Franciscan Friars theory and the University of Oxford’s endowment principles through the concept of Usés. Contemporary, waqf models demonstrate potential returns averaging 31% annually. Cash awqaf, incorporated through the Musalman Waqf Validity Act IV of 1913, represents a particularly promising avenue. This research addresses jurisprudential divergences by examining Ottoman Isthighlal practices and proposes implementing Imam Zufar’s waqf chain model in collaboration with the Islamic Development Bank and Islamic Research and Training Institute, adapted to the Indian context. Drawing from successful examples like Turkey’s Vehbi Koç Foundation and Malaysia’s Finterna Waqf blockchain initiative, this paper advocates for democratization and decentralization of waqf administration in India and extending the Public Premises Act of 1958 to waqf properties to streamline recovery of encroached assets. The proposed venture philanthropy framework aims to enhance socio- religious confidence among Indian Muslims while addressing critical economic vulnerabilities through institutional reform that acknowledges both historical legacies and contemporary realities.

Abstract

The very existence of Allah SWT is nothing more than fairytales. This notion may arise in the Muslim minds due to the influence of the scientific worldview in the 21st Century. Unregulated social media contents within Muslim countries are rampant nowadays and there are apostates from Muslim youths who create contents to spread atheism through different online platforms. There are translation works of popular science books by prominent authors that are also available in Muslim Countries. The disenchantment of Islam from Muslim minds is slow and gradual process  and it leads to pessimism , Islamophobia, apostacy and blasphemy. This research analyzes the deep-rooted problem with the scientific worldview, and it also uses critical thinking method to respond from the Quranic literature. This research finds that despite the dominancy of the scientific worldview; the Quranic literature has the strength to pave an alternative way to defend Islam. In other words, the Quran has unique ways to defend its propositions. This research suggests that Muslim youths must develop critical thinking approach in light with the Quranic Worldview when encountering the scientific worldview.

Abstract

The contemporary intellectual landscape is dominated by postmodern relativism, which, by denying universal truth claims and moral values, creates a metaphysical vacuum that fragments public discourse and undermines the foundations of science, ethics, and religion. This crisis stems from a secular worldview that excludes a transcendent ground for reality. Problem: The central problem is the philosophical inadequacy of relativism and the need for a robust metaphysical foundation for objectivity. This research asks how Al-Ghazali's occasionalism can be formulated as a systematic critique of this relativism.This study employs a qualitative library research design, utilizing analytical, interpretative, and constructive methods. It involves a tripartite analysis: reconstructing Al-Ghazali's occasionalism from Tahafut al-Falasifah, deconstructing the internal contradictions of contemporary relativism, and synthesizing the two to build a coherent critique. The research demonstrates that Al-Ghazali's framework, which rejects necessary causality and posits God as the sole Efficient Cause who sustains reality through consistent habits ('adah), provides a viable metaphysical foundation for objectivity. This directly counters the self-referential paradoxes and moral vacuity of relativism by grounding universal order and truth in a Divine Consciousness. The study concludes that Al-Ghazali's occasionalism serves as a powerful metaphysical antidote to contemporary relativism. Its primary contribution is a novel synthesis that bridges classical Islamic and modern philosophy, positioning Al-Ghazali's thought as a living resource for reclaiming objectivity and escaping the postmodern labyrinth.

Abstract

The development of modern culture and the influence of digital media have transformed hedonism from a purely philosophical debate into a lifestyle that emphasizes self-gratification, unrestricted freedom, and the prioritization of personal desires. This phenomenon becomes problematic when pleasure is regarded as the primary measure of life success, as it potentially conflicts with the Islamic value system and ʿaqidah. Accordingly, this article aims to analyze modern hedonism and examine its distinctions from an Islamic perspective. This study adopts a qualitative library-based approach by analyzing classical and contemporary texts, as well as academic articles in the field of Islamic thought. The findings indicate that modern hedonism has shifted from an ethical theory to a way of life oriented toward pleasure and individual freedom, whereas Islam situates human life within a framework of tawḥīd, responsibility, and self-discipline. This contrast demonstrates that modern hedonism carries significant ideological implications for the formation of Islamic values and identity, thereby necessitating a stronger Islamic understanding in addressing contemporary cultural challenges.

Abstract

Maulana Shibli Nomani (1857–1914) stands among the most influential Muslim scholars, historians, and literary figures of modern South Asia. His intellectual journey, from his formative years in Azamgarh to his academic maturity in Aligarh, Hyderabad, and Nadwatul Ulama reflects the complex cultural, political, and educational transformations of the late nineteenth and early twentieth centuries. This paper presents a comprehensive study of Shibli’s life, tracing his early upbringing, his exposure to traditional Islamic scholarship, and his engagement with modern educational reform. It examines his multifaceted contributions as a historian, biographer, theologian, with particular emphasis on his major works such as Al-Mamun, Seerat-un-Nu‘man, Al-Farooq, Aurangzeb Alamgir par Ek Nazar, Ilm-ul-Kalam, and his magnum opus Seerat-un-Nabi. The study also explores Shibli Nomani’s role in shaping the ideological foundations of Nadwatul Ulama and founding the Darul-Musannefin Shibli Academy. The analysis highlights his methodological innovations, critical historiographical approach, and his attempts to harmonize classical Islamic scholarship with the intellectual challenges of the modern age. Through this comprehensive discussion, the paper underscores the enduring significance of Shibli Nomani’s intellectual legacy in the fields of Islamic history, scholastic philosophy, biographies of muslim heroes etc.

Abstract

The Qurʾān frequently employs oaths involving celestial phenomena to underscore the veracity of Revelation. However, the oath found in the closing passages of Sūrat al-Wāqiʿah (56:75–76) distinguishes itself through unique syntactic negation and a specific focus on the "falling places" (mawāqiʿ) of stars rather than the celestial bodies themselves. This paper provides a multidisciplinary examination of this oath, synthesizing classical philology (fiqh al-lughah), the history of Islamic astronomy, and contemporary astrophysics. By analyzing the lexical range of the root w-q-ʿ alongside physical phenomena such as light-time delay, gravitational lensing, and stellar collapse, this study argues that the Qurʾānic phrasing anticipates a distinction between perceived observation and physical reality. The paper concludes that the "tremendousness" (ʿaẓamah) of the oath serves as an epistemological bridge, challenging human perception to validate the unseen source of the Qurʾān through the visible, yet deceptive, order of the cosmos.

Abstract

Objective: This study aims to examine how Islamic thought, religious authority, and ethical formation are being reshaped in the age of digital modernity and to assess their contributions to the achievement of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), particularly SDG 4 (Quality Education) and SDG 16 (Peace, Justice, and Strong Institutions). The research focuses on the ways digital platforms, algorithm-driven religious content, and emerging forms of online authority influence ethical reasoning, civic responsibility, and moral development within contemporary Muslim societies. Theoretical framework: The theoretical framework integrates classical Islamic epistemology (ʿilm, authority of the ʿulamāʾ, adab, and maqāṣid al-sharīʿah) with critical theories of power and knowledge, digital religion theory, and ethical governance frameworks. This interdisciplinary approach enables an analysis of how digital technologies mediate religious authority and ethical norms, and how these transformations intersect with global development agendas articulated in the SDGs. Literature review: The literature review covers three main bodies of scholarship: (1) classical and contemporary discussions on Islamic religious authority and ethical formation; (2) studies on digital religion, social media, and algorithmic governance; and (3) SDG-oriented research on education, institutional trust, and ethical sustainability. While existing studies acknowledge the growing influence of digital Islam, limited attention has been given to its implications for ethical development and sustainable governance from an Islamic perspective. Methods: This study adopts a qualitative research design combining discourse analysis of digital Islamic content, document analysis of policy and educational frameworks, and semi-structured interviews with Islamic scholars, educators, and Muslim youth. Data are analyzed thematically to identify patterns in the production of religious authority, ethical narratives, and their alignment with SDG-related objectives. Results: The findings reveal that digital modernity is simultaneously democratizing and fragmenting Islamic religious authority. While digital platforms expand access to religious knowledge and ethical discourse, they also challenge traditional structures of authority and risk promoting superficial or polarizing interpretations. Nevertheless, when guided by ethical frameworks grounded in maqāṣid al-sharīʿah, digital Islamic engagement has the potential to strengthen ethical education, civic responsibility, and institutional trust. Implications: The study highlights the need for ethically grounded digital Islamic education and responsible religious leadership to support sustainable development. By aligning Islamic ethical formation with SDG 4 and SDG 16, the research offers policy-relevant insights for educators, religious institutions, and development actors seeking to harness digital religion as a resource for peace, justice, and sustainable social development. Novelty: This study provides an original contribution by explicitly linking transformations in Islamic thought and religious authority under digital modernity to the Sustainable Development Goals, offering a normative and analytical framework that positions Islamic ethics as an active contributor to global development discourse.

Abstract

This article obtained a computational analysis of the last letters of the 83rd ayats of the 36th Surah (Suratul Yasiin) of the Holy Qur’an Kareem. The proofs were achieved by deft deployment of even properties, odd properties and basic arithmetic operations. The analysis computes the exact number (114) of Surahs in the Holy Qur’an. The result shows conclusively the difference of the number of the last letter of the first ayat and the sum of difference of the even number and odd number of the ayats ending with “Mimun” and “Nunun” in the 36th Surah (Suratul Yasiin) is equal to the number (114) of Surah in the Holy Qur’an Hakiim.
