Abstract

This study presents the design and flow analysis of a polypropylene (PP) injection mold for paving block production as a cost-efficient and lightweight alternative to conventional metal molds. The research consists of a field survey at Tacon company, product geometry evaluation, mold design using SolidWorks, and flow simulation to assess mold performance. Simulation results indicate that the two-plate mold with a 2 mm wall thickness can withstand loads up to two stacked paving blocks (40 N) without deformation. The filling time was recorded at 1.6491 seconds, with a maximum injection pressure of 49.03 MPa, and cooling time ranging between 5.14–10.64 seconds. The sink mark value was very small (0.0031 mm) and located in non-critical areas, while air traps appeared only at the cavity edges. These findings confirm that PP can be effectively used as a mold material for paving blocks, providing stable melt flow behavior, good product quality, and efficient cooling cycles. This research contributes to the development of polymer-based mold technology for affordable, lightweight, and locally manufacturable paving block production.

Abstract

This study investigates the influence of CNC Milling parameter variations on the Material Removal Rate (MRR) of S45C steel brake lining mold holders using the Taguchi method. Three parameters—spindle speed, feed rate, and depth of cut—were tested at three levels through an L9 experimental design. Data were analyzed using the signal-to-noise ratio, ANOVA, and normality testing. Results indicate that none of the parameters significantly affect MRR at the 5% level (Fcount < Ftable = 19.00). Depth of cut showed the highest relative contribution (7.39%), while spindle speed and feed rate contributed negatively. A high error value (92.99%) suggests unobserved external factors. The optimal combination is 2388 rpm, 191 mm/min, and 2.67 mm, yielding a predicted MRR of 90.0766 (CI ±0.4126). Normality assumptions were met (p > 0.150).

Abstract

Surface quality is an important aspect in machining processes because it affects the performance and service life of components. S45C steel is widely used in the automotive and manufacturing industries, thus optimization of cutting parameters is required to obtain the best surface quality. Each machining parameter has a different level of influence on machining results. Therefore, this study was conducted to analyze the effects of cutting speed, feed rate, and depth of cut on surface roughness as well as to determine the optimum parameter combination in the CNC milling of S45C steel. The Response Surface Methodology (RSM) with a Box–Behnken design was used to develop the experimental plan consisting of 15 combinations. Surface roughness measurements were carried out using a Mitutoyo SJ-210. Analysis of variance (ANOVA) showed that depth of cut significantly affected surface roughness with a P-value < 0.05, while cutting speed and feed rate did not exhibit a statistically significant effect. The developed second-order regression model resulted in a saddle point characteristic, indicating that the optimum value was not located at either the lower or upper limit of the parameters. The optimization results indicate optimum conditions at a cutting speed of 82.85 m/min, feed rate of 298 mm/min, and depth of cut of 0.87 mm with a predicted surface roughness of 2.56 µm. These findings can serve as a reference for setting machining parameters to improve the surface quality of S45C steel.

Abstract

Offshore tin mining operations rely heavily on the performance of Production Suction Dredgers as the main production units. The reliability of mechanical production equipment plays a crucial role in maintaining operational continuity and achieving production targets. Recurrent equipment failures can lead to increased downtime, reduced operating hours, and decreased vessel productivity. This study aims to analyze the most dominant types of mechanical equipment failures on KIP Timah 07 using the Pareto Diagram as a basis for determining maintenance priorities. The research method employed is descriptive quantitative with a case study approach. The analyzed data consist of secondary data obtained from daily logsheets, technician work reports, machine operating hour records, and downtime reports during the observation period. Failure data were classified based on failure types, and their frequency, percentage, and cumulative percentage were calculated and presented using a Pareto Diagram. The results indicate that gearbox failure is the most dominant type of failure, contributing 58.88% of the total failure occurrences. In addition, failures in the soil pump bearing block and cutter hydraulic pump also contribute significantly, resulting in a cumulative contribution of 79.44%. Based on these findings, maintenance activities should be prioritized on the dominant components to reduce downtime and improve the reliability and operational productivity of KIP Timah 07.

Abstract

Lockers commonly used in daily life, both in public and private spaces, are generally still conventional and rely on metal keys for security. However, physical keys often cause problems such as being lost or misplaced. With the rapid advancement of technology, many devices can now be integrated with digital systems, including lockers frequently used by the public. Therefore, this project aims to develop a locker security system based on fingerprint and RFID technology integrated with a website, in order to enhance both security and user convenience. The system utilizes a fingerprint sensor for user authentication and RFID as an additional access card. The ESP32 microcontroller serves as the data processor and transmits information to the website. The website is developed using PHP as the main backend language and Bootstrap as the frontend framework to create a responsive and visually appealing interface. The development process applies the waterfall model, consisting of requirement analysis, design, implementation, and testing stages. Testing is carried out using the black-box method. The test results show that the system successfully improves security and convenience through dual-layer protection using fingerprint and RFID. In addition, the integrated website allows administrators and users to monitor user data and locker usage history efficiently.
