Abstract

Learning efficiency as an indicator of learning pace. The improvement of students' learning efficiency is a goal cherished by every teacher and highly anticipated by both students and their parents. In the context of universal education, intensive classes provide students an opportunity to review classroom knowledge, revisit unfamiliar or poorly understood concepts, and master and apply them effectively. The Common Hope Language Institute has established "intensive class" to offer a learning platform for students who perform poorly in exams or experience a decline in academic performance. These classes aim to enhance the learning abilities and efficiency of struggling students. Given the limited time available to acquire a solid foundation in Chinese and achieve good exam results, learning efficiency becomes particularly critical. This study investigates and summarizes the effectiveness of the intensive classes at the Common Hope Language Institute. Findings suggest that these classes help students gain a more comprehensive understanding of classroom knowledge, consolidate what they have learned, and help them to solve their learning difficulties.

Abstract

This study aims to explore the challenges of teaching Chinese oral language in a non-target language environment, using Congo (Brazzaville) as a case study, and to propose effective solutions. To achieve this goal, we employed a case study approach, conducting a detailed analysis of the current state of Chinese oral language teaching in Congo (Brazzaville). Through field interviews and classroom observations, we systematically identified the key challenges in teaching. The study found that the lack of consistency in setting teaching goals and training systems has limited the effectiveness of oral language instruction. Furthermore, the current approach is overly focused on grammar and structure, neglecting the development of oral communication skills. Based on these findings, we recommend enhancing the training of communicative skills in Chinese oral language teaching, while also incorporating listening comprehension to address the specific needs of a non-target language environment. The results of this study provide practical insights and theoretical support for improving Chinese oral language teaching in non-target language settings.

Abstract

This article focuses on the application of Artificial Intelligence (AI) technology in International Chinese language education and its impact on the development of Chinese language professionals. Specifically, it explores the opportunities and challenges facing Chinese language majors in Indonesia, focusing on the “academic breakthrough” challenges faced by these learners. This research is significant in that it integrates cutting-edge technologies such as natural language processing to address the real challenges of digital transformation in education, focusing specifically on innovations in Chinese language education in non-native contexts, particularly in Indonesia. Employing a theoretical approach, the study uses case studies, teaching experiments, and questionnaires to evaluate the effectiveness of intelligent tutoring systems, a “dual-teacher” teaching model, and intelligent writing training tools in Chinese language instruction at Indonesian universities. Preliminary findings suggest that personalized learning powered by AI can significantly improve learning motivation and language production quality, particularly in academic writing. However, insufficient digital academic literacy among teachers and students can limit the effectiveness of technology applications. The conclusion suggests that international Chinese education should promote the deep integration of language instruction and digital literacy, strengthen teacher training in intelligent educational technologies, and build a new “human-computer collaborative” teaching ecosystem to provide a sustainable path to achieving educational equity and academic breakthroughs.

Abstract

The concept of "Tiandao" (The Way of Heaven) represents the ontological foundation of traditional Chinese philosophy, serving as the ultimate source of both cosmic order and human morality. This study deconstructs the five-fold connotations of Tiandao and synthesizes them with a comparative analysis of Western "Natural Law" to explore how these systems bridge the "is-ought" gap. Utilizing philological analysis, historical hermeneutics, and comparative methodology, the research examines classical texts from the Pre-Qin period to the Qing Dynasty Alongside Western traditions ranging from Stoicism to Enlightenment Rationalism. The analysis reveals that Tiandao evolved from a personified divine will into a naturalistic, cyclical, and moralized ontological system. Comparative results indicate that while Western Natural Law emphasizes rational rights, Tiandao prioritizes organic harmony. The dialectic between "Heavenly Order" and "Human Agency" reflects a unique holistic spirit, suggesting that modern global ethics can benefit from the integration of these two traditions. Ultimately, Tiandao remains a vital framework for understanding human responsibility within a self-regulating cosmos, providing a metaphysical anchor for contemporary ecological and social governance and offering a necessary corrective to the disenchantment of nature in modern industrial societies.

Abstract

Teaching model is one of the key factors to improve teaching quality. In view of the tendency of the current international Chinese teaching model to focus on structure and knowledge, but not on pragmatics and ability, the Chinese Language and Literature College of Jinan University in China has innovated a set of "listening and speaking + reading and writing" Chinese teaching model. This model focuses on the mutual coordination of "listening and speaking" and "reading and writing", aiming to quickly improve students' Chinese communication ability. This model has been first practiced overseas at the Common Hope Language School in Indonesia. This article mainly introduces the model and the teaching steps of the listening and speaking class in this model, and uses the students' actual grades to demonstrate the feasibility of this teaching model. The study shows that after about 6 months of intensive study in this model, students' Chinese listening and speaking ability has made significant progress. This model helps to improve the listening and speaking ability of Chinese beginners in a short period of time.

Abstract

This study employs semantic component analysis and lexicalization theory to conduct a comparative analysis of the semantic components and lexicalization patterns of “cry” type verbs in English and Chinese. The findings reveal that these verbs in both languages exhibit both universality and specificity in their semantic components and lexicalization patterns. The core semantic components determine the semantic field of synonymous verbs, while peripheral components differentiate their nuances. Furthermore, “cry” type verbs in both languages follow the lexicalization pattern of “action + manner + cause + X”. This study advances the semantic and lexicalization analysis of “cry” type verbs in English and Chinese, offering novel theoretical and translational insights. Through systematic examination of their semantic components and lexicalization patterns, it enables more precise cross-linguistic understanding and application in translation practice.

Abstract

Production-Oriented Approach (POA) is an important research achievement in second language education. Its application to international Chinese education can promote the localization of second language teaching concepts and improve the quality of international Chinese teaching. To understand its research trends and development direction, it is necessary to review the research in this field. By searching the China National Knowledge Infrastructure (CNKI) database, 58 relevant papers on the use of POA in the field of international Chinese education over the past decade (2015–2025) were collected. Based on the scoping review method and using CiteSpace visualization software, the development status and trends were analyzed. The study found: 1) the overall development of POA in international Chinese education has experienced considerable fluctuations, roughly divided into two stages with 2019 as the node: the initial stage and the rapid development stage; 2) research hotspots mainly include three aspects: POA teaching practice research, technology empowerment and teaching innovation, and teaching material adaptation and development. These findings are implicative for improving teaching quality of International Chinese Language Education.

Abstract

This article aims to provide a brief overview regarding the existence of Confucianism as a religion in the Dutch East Indies and its relationship with the colonial ruling regime during the last four decades of Dutch rule. With the overview, it is hoped that the type of colonial policy that was made towards the Chinese ethnic belief could be understood, whether in social or political aspects and also its relevance to world developments that took place at the time. To realise this goal, the method used in this paper is the historical research method which consists of four stages: data search (heuristic), source criticism, interpretation, and reconstruction as a form of final academic presentation. With this method, it is hoped that a short paper can be presented that is arranged in a reconstructive manner and is able to provide answers to research problems. As a final conclusion, this paper reveals that in principle, colonial political interests cannot be separated from the existence of religion in her colony, including Confucianism. Especially the international aspect that began to colour the existence of this religion in the Dutch East Indies colony became the main motivation for the colonial government to determine their policies. In this case, the dualistic nature of Dutch colonial policy can be recognised.

Abstract

This paper takes the existing teaching model of high schools in Congo-Brazzaville as a case study with the aim of identifying potential areas for improvement, with a view to optimising the potential complement form, which is a feature of native Chinese grammar teaching in Congo-Brazzaville. Through an empirical analysis of Chinese Congolese learners in Congo, it was observed that they were able to master the possible complement structures of affirmative “V+de+C”, negative’V+not+C” and interrogative “V+de+C+V+not+C/V+de+C?”. The empirical analyses were conducted, and the following conclusions were drawn: (1) the students demonstrated a good grasp of “V+de+C”; (2) the students demonstrated a limited grasp of “V+not+C”; (3) the students demonstrated a lack of grasp of “V+de+C+V+not+C/V+de+C?”; and (4) the students demonstrated a reliance on the optative verb “neng”. The results of the study may be of interest to those involved in the teaching of potential complement to African native French-speaking Chinese learners, as they could inform the teaching of these knowledge in a positive way.
