Abstract

The teaching and learning of English syllables and stress are intricate processes influenced by a myriad of factors. This discussion explores significant determinants including linguistic background of learners, teacher competency and training, availability and quality of instructional materials, and learner motivation and attitude towards English pronunciation. The interference from mother tongue and familiarity with phonetic symbols play pivotal roles in how learners grasp phonological aspects of English. Similarly, teacher competency in phonology and pronunciation pedagogy, alongside the ability to model correct pronunciation, significantly impacts the effectiveness of instruction. The quality and cultural relevance of instructional materials, coupled with the integration of modern educational technology, enhance the teaching and learning experience. Moreover, learners' motivation and attitude towards English pronunciation are intertwined with their learning outcomes, underscoring the importance of fostering positive attitudes and high motivation. An integrated approach considering all these factors, supported by continuous professional development for teachers and a well-designed curriculum, is recommended to address the challenges associated with teaching and learning English syllables and stress. Through this holistic approach, a conducive learning environment promoting better understanding and mastery of English pronunciation can be established, ultimately improving the overall language proficiency of learners.

Abstract

The learning of English intonation by non-native speakers is a nuanced process significantly influenced by the interference of their mother tongue. This interference, often categorized under linguistic interference or language transfer, manifests in various facets of English language acquisition, including the critical aspect of intonation. Intonation, which encapsulates the variation in pitch while speaking, is integral to the effective communication and comprehension of spoken English. This study delved into the multifaceted impacts of mother tongue interference on English intonation learning, with a particular focus on how phonological and suprasegmental features of a learner's first language influence their ability to acquire and produce the correct English intonation. Through a review of existing literature and examination of practical examples, the study highlights the challenges faced by learners, especially in academic settings, and suggests potential pedagogical strategies to mitigate the negative effects of mother tongue interference. The findings underscore the necessity for a tailored approach in teaching English intonation to non-native speakers, taking into consideration the phonological characteristics of their mother tongue to foster a more conducive learning environment for mastering English intonation.

Abstract

The study looked at the relationship between listed consumer companies in Nigeria's capital structure and financial performance, as well as the moderating effect of inflation. While debt to equity was utilised as a capital structure variable, return on asset (ROA) was used as a gauge of financial success. The 13 sampled organisations' audited annual reports covering the 10-year period from 2013 to 2022 were where the study's data came from. Robust fixed effect regression was used in the study as a method of analysis and hypothesis testing. The outcome demonstrates that inflation has a negative moderating effect on capital structure and ROA as well as a negative and significant negative impact on return on assets. According to the study's findings, high leverage businesses in Nigeria's consumer goods industry will struggle financially.  The negative impact of debt in the capital structure on the financial performance of listed consumer goods firms in Nigeria is also exacerbated by inflation. According to the report, management of publicly traded consumer goods companies should evaluate their capital structure in light of rising inflation and develop a comprehensive financial strategy that takes their long-term goals and objectives into account.  This could entail managing debt levels, optimising capital structure, and giving investments with long-term returns first priority.

Abstract

The fisheries sector in Cambodia plays an important role in the economic, security, food, and nutrition sectors, including freshwater, seawater, and aquaculture. This study aims to 1) understand the type and size of farmed fish in Svay Rieng town, 2) understand the farmed fish market chain in Svay Rieng town, and 3) analyze the economic efficiency of selling farmed fish in Svay Rieng town. As a method, a survey was conducted by selecting 40 samples (fish vendors) from Veal Yun Market and Rong Bonler Market in Svay Rieng town by face-to-face interviewing. The results found that the activities of selling and consumption of farmed fish in the market are very active. Fish vendors sold many types of farmed fish. The fish types that the vendors sell the most are channa striata, clarias macrocephalus, channa micropeltes, red tilapia, pantius gorionothus, puntioplites, and other types. The fish market chain in Svay Rieng town is traded and trafficked from brokers to traders and fish vendors in the market and resold to wholesalers, retailers, and consumers. For the economic efficiency analysis of farmed fish sales in Svay Rieng town, there is a majority of vendors who are prosperous. To encourage local fish farming, the government should step up its efforts to support farmers who raise fish as a family and those who depend on fishing for their livelihood by educating and training them to cut back on imports.

Abstract

The demand for coffee in Cambodia is also growing, driven by a number of factors, including the increasing popularity of coffee shops and cafes, the rising incomes of Cambodians, and the growing influence of Western culture. This growing demand is putting a strain on domestic supply, and Cambodia now imports more coffee than it produces. In 2020, Cambodia imported around 770 tons of coffee beans, mainly from neighboring countries such as Vietnam and Laos. A qualitative method combined with a descriptive analytic approach is the methodology addressed. The data is review from relevant sources on the supply and demand of coffee in Cambodia include academic papers, government reports, industry reports, and news articles. found that the coffee sector in Cambodia has the potential to generate significant economic and social benefits for the country. The study found that the coffee sector could create up to 100,000 new jobs and generate $500 million in revenue by 2025. The study also found that the coffee sector could help to reduce poverty and improve the livelihoods of rural communities. Coffee is a relatively high-value crop, and coffee farmers can earn significantly more than farmers who grow other crops. An estimated 9,650 tons of coffee were consumed in Cambodia in 2022. This represents a significant increase from 2014, when Cambodians consumed only 5,970 tons of coffee. In 2020, Cambodia produced around 3,900 tons of coffee, and the government has a goal of increasing production to 10,000 tons by 2025.

Abstract

In Cambodia, domestic processing accounts for about 10% of total agricultural output, while processed agricultural exports make up only 8% of all official exports by value. Processing and handling of agricultural products after harvest need private investment if Cambodia is to benefit economically from adding value to its produce. There aren't many big businesses involved in agro-processing. Among the possible activities include the processing of dairy products, cashew nuts, sugar, fruits, fish products, meat, and cassava. Publicly available studies on Cambodian household agriproduct processing are also included in this review. An article based on literature research is this study. Food processing includes postharvest processing methods as well as packhouse, transport, market, and processing. The key to handling the issue of processing these productions is agro-processing. Items like candy, pickles, sausages, meatballs, fish balls, Prahok, frozen dairy, and soy milk, among others. The majority of agriculturally processed products are exported informally since they lack branding, packaging, certification, or licencing.  However, implementing agro-processing in Cambodia is fraught with difficulties involving labour, knowledge, machinery, equipment, and exporters' maintenance of the machinery.

Abstract

Historically, many languages of the world evolved their standard forms through centralized control or political unity. Considering the decentralized natured of the Igbo unity, the dream evolving a standard form through much means, remains a mirage and unrealistic. Therefore, Igbo scholars are forced with the task of achieved this goal, we must used what we have to get what we want. In other words, we cannot enrich the evolving standard Igbo by using the dialectal variants in the language. Igbo dialectal variation and the dialect variants as synonyms, with comparative study of five dialects: Owerri, oguuta, Afikpo, Nnewi and Ngwa (ibeme) at the phonological, morphological and syntactic levels. The paper discuss the standard Igbo vis-a- vis dialects and meta-language as the tool for its enrichment which consist of the effect of dialectal variation, including the conclusion and recommendations made that rather than being a conclusive linguistic study on dialectal variation for the enrichment of standard Igbo, would serve as a stimulus for further intensive researches.
