Abstract

Cancer is considered one of the major issues in the twenty-first century. It's one of the leading causes of death and a barrier to life expectancy, globally. Its burden expected to increase worldwide from 2020 and throughout the first half of the 21st century. Nurses as one of the medical team are considered at the frontline in mitigating this increasing, through their contributions in patients care with their diversity of care roles and responsibilities in cancer care. This study aimed to assess oncology nurses level of performance in cancer care in Kirkuk City. a descriptive (cross sectional) design conducted at Oncology and Hematology Center in Kirkuk City, Iraq. An observational checklist used to collect data of 81 nurse in the time line between February 15th, 2025 to March 27th,2025. nurses showed an overall weak adherence to cancer care protocols in general(PGMS=24.28%), where nurses scored low levels in both the " Supportive and psychological nursing care" and "Nursing care throughout chemotherapy treatments" with a Percentile Grand/Global Mean of Score (PGMS) of 8.80%,and 8.82% respectively; while they showed a moderate level in regard to "Nursing care prior to handling chemotherapeutic agents", (PGMS=56.02%). No relationship accounted between Nurses' performance level and the studied respondent's socio-demographics(age, educational background, and years of experience), since no significant a contingency coefficients are accounted at P>0.05, except in regard of gender variable (CC = 0.249) at the value of P < 0.05,showing a better advantage for male over females. The findings indicates a weak adherence to the protocols regarding cancer patient care, indicating the need for further focus on the provision of continuous trainings. Furthermore, the findings of the study allow us to make the assumption that nurses' age , educational qualification, and experience doesn't necessarily have to play a significant role in the evaluation of nurse competence and quality of nursing care provided in all of the environments.

Abstract

This study aimed to describe the dynamics of cognitive distortions and dysfunctional thinking patterns in an adolescent receiving psychological services in a healthcare setting and to examine cognitive changes following a Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) based intervention. A mixed qualitative and quantitative approach with a single case study design was employed to obtain an in depth understanding of individual psychological changes before and after intervention. The participant was a sixteen year old female adolescent presenting emotional instability rigid negative thinking patterns and difficulties in family and school relationships. Data were collected through clinical interviews behavioral observations psychological testing and the Irrational Beliefs Inventory (IBI) administered as pre test and post test measures. The CBT based intervention was delivered in seven sessions focusing on psychoeducation identification of cognitive distortions understanding relationships between thoughts emotions and behaviors cognitive restructuring homework assignments and behavioral techniques for emotional regulation. Qualitative data were analyzed descriptively to capture changes in cognitive emotional dynamics while quantitative data from the IBI were used to evaluate intervention effectiveness. Results indicated a decrease in scores across all IBI dimensions after the intervention with notable reductions in rigidity excessive worrying problem avoidance and emotional irresponsibility. The total irrational belief score decreased by thirty seven points indicating a meaningful shift toward more adaptive and rational thinking patterns. Qualitative findings supported these results showing improved cognitive flexibility emotional awareness and coping strategies. Overall the findings demonstrate that CBT based cognitive restructuring is effective in reducing dysfunctional thinking patterns and improving emotional regulation in adolescents within healthcare settings. This study supports the application of CBT as an evidence based intervention for adolescents experiencing cognitive emotional difficulties and highlights its relevance for clinical psychological services in health care contexts.

Abstract

This article aims to examine how reproductive health is conceptualized and analyzed within contemporary scientific literature through the lens of socio cultural factors. The study employs a qualitative descriptive research design using a library based approach. Data were collected through systematic literature review and document analysis of recent peer reviewed journal articles that focus on reproductive health and its social, cultural, and normative determinants. The analysis was conducted inductively through thematic identification, data reduction, and conceptual categorization to synthesize patterns and relationships across the reviewed studies. The findings reveal that reproductive health outcomes are consistently shaped by socio cultural norms, gender relations, religious beliefs, and power structures that influence knowledge, access to services, decision making, and reproductive autonomy. Key themes identified include the regulation of adolescent sexual and reproductive health, menstrual health stigma, unmet family planning needs, and the dual role of religion as both a constraint and a source of support. These results indicate a clear shift in the literature from purely biomedical perspectives toward more integrated and context sensitive frameworks. The study concludes that incorporating socio cultural analysis is essential for advancing theoretical understanding and for designing effective, culturally responsive reproductive health interventions. By synthesizing recent scholarly evidence, this article contributes to the development of more comprehensive and socially grounded approaches in reproductive health research and practice.

Abstract

Post–Sectio Caesarea (SC) mothers are vulnerable to anxiety due to postoperative pain, limited mobility, and concerns regarding their maternal role and recovery process. If left unmanaged, anxiety can negatively affect maternal well-being, breastfeeding, and mother–infant bonding. Nonpharmacological interventions such as Mindfulness Breathing and Guided Imagery are considered safe and effective in reducing anxiety. This study aimed to analyze the effectiveness of a combination of Mindfulness Breathing and Guided Imagery in reducing anxiety levels among post–Sectio Caesarea mothers at RSUD I.A. Moeis Samarinda. The study employed a managed case study approach using the nursing care process, which included assessment, diagnosis, intervention, implementation, and evaluation. The subjects were post–Sectio Caesarea mothers experiencing anxiety. Anxiety levels were measured using the Hamilton Rating Scale for Anxiety (HRS-A) before and after the structured implementation of the combined Mindfulness Breathing and Guided Imagery intervention. The evaluation showed a decrease in anxiety scores following the intervention; prior to the intervention, patients experienced moderate anxiety, which decreased to mild anxiety afterward. Patients also demonstrated more adaptive physiological and psychological responses, such as feeling calmer, improved focus, and better coping abilities. The combination of Mindfulness Breathing and Guided Imagery was proven to be effective in reducing anxiety in post–Sectio Caesarea mothers and may be used as an alternative nonpharmacological therapy in maternity nursing care to enhance postpartum psychological well-being.

Abstract

Abstract

Hypertension is a chronic disease that requires long-term therapy to reduce the risk of cardiovascular complications, stroke, and kidney disorders. The success of antihypertensive therapy is largely determined by patient compliance in taking medication) (however, various reports indicate that compliance rates remain suboptimal. This narrative review aims to summarize recent evidence regarding factors influencing medication adherence among patients with hypertension. A systematic literature search was conducted in national and international journals published between 2020 and 2025, using predefined inclusion and exclusion criteria. The initial search identified 72 articles, of which 25 articles met the eligibility criteria and were included in the final thematic synthesis. The findings indicate that medication compliance is influenced by internal factors (knowledge, motivation, and self-efficacy) and external factors (family support, the role of health workers, perception of illness, and sociodemographic characteristics). Among these factors, treatment motivation and family support were consistently reported as the most dominant determinants of adherence. In conclusion, improving medication compliance in hypertensive patients requires a comprehensive approach that integrates continuous patient education, strengthening the role of health workers, and active family involvement in the treatment process.

Abstract

Hand hygiene is an effective preventive measure for preventing the transmission of infectious diseases, but its practice among school students remains suboptimal. This study aimed to evaluate the effectiveness of hand hygiene education in improving knowledge and healthy living behaviors among students at SMP IT Al-Mahdhuri in Pesisir Barat Regency, Lampung. The study used a pre-experimental, one-group pretest–posttest design with 107 participants (35 seventh-grade students, 38 eighth-grade students, 34 ninth-grade students, and two teachers). The intervention included educational materials, demonstrations, and practice of the six steps of handwashing according to WHO guidelines. Measurements were conducted using questionnaires before and after the intervention. Data analysis was conducted using descriptive quantitative methods by comparing average pretest and posttest scores, supported by observations of changes in skills and behavior. The results showed an increase in knowledge across all grade levels: seventh-grade students from 56% to 88.8%, eighth-grade students from 61% to 91.6%, and ninth-grade students from 62.3% to 96.5%. Furthermore, there was an increase in students' practical skills and habituation of hygienic behavior. It was concluded that hand hygiene counseling was effective in increasing students' knowledge, skills, and clean and healthy living behavior, thus potentially supporting the prevention of infectious diseases in the school environment.
