Abstract

This research aims to analyze the influence of economic growth, foreign direct investment, corruption perception index, consumer price index, and human development index on unemployment in ASEAN from 2018 to 2022. This research is quantitative in nature, utilizing panel data analysis. The population in this study consists of the 11 ASEAN member countries with annual data from 2018 to 2022. Data were obtained by accessing the websites of the World Bank, Transparency International, UNDP, and Trading Economics. Subsequently, the data were processed using Eviews 12 software. The results of the study employing the Fixed Effects Model (FEM) demonstrate that unemployment is negatively influenced by economic growth, consumer price index, and human development index, whereas it is positively affected by the corruption perception index. Conversely, foreign direct investment does not exert a noteworthy impact on unemployment within the ASEAN region. Research on unemployment in ASEAN countries has been inconsistent; further investigation is needed to address this gap. Factors contributing to unemployment, particularly within this region's context, require deeper understanding. Additionally, this research also encompasses a new dimension: the impact of corruption, which has been underexplored previously.

Abstract

The study aims to analyze the influence of the distribution of Zakat, Infaq, Sedekah, and Other Religious Social Funds (ZIS-DSKL) and Gross Domestic Product (GDP) growth on the poverty rate in Indonesia for the period 2015-2022. The data used are secondary data obtained from the Central Statistics Agency and the Center for Data and Information Systems of the Indonesian Ministry of Trade. The analysis method employed is multiple regression. The analysis findings suggest a significant impact of the distribution of ZIS-DSKL funds and GDP growth on the poverty rate in Indonesia. The poverty rate in Indonesia can be decreased by increasing the distribution of ZIS-DSKL funds and promoting GDP growth, as revealed by their respective influences. It is important to raise public awareness about zakat obligations, ensure transparency in fund management, and carefully select programs aimed at alleviating poverty to enhance the effectiveness and efficiency of ZIS-DSKL fund distribution. The government needs to continue promoting inclusive and sustainable economic growth through pro-investment policies, infrastructure development, access to education and skills training, and strengthening potential economic sectors. Further research is necessary to understand the relationship between the distribution of ZIS-DSKL funds, GDP growth, and the poverty rate in Indonesia, providing deeper insights and more accurate data to formulate more effective policies to address poverty in Indonesia.

Abstract

This study aims to identify and analyse the effects of credit risk management and bank-specific factors on bank financial performance. Credit risk management is explained by non-performing loan ratio (NPL) and capital adequacy ratio (CAR), while bank specific factors are explained by cost to income ratio (CIR), net interest margin (NIM) and loan to deposit ratio (LDR). Financial performance is explained by return on assets (ROA). The object of this research is banks listed on the stock exchange in Indonesia, Malaysia, Singapore, Thailand and Philippines or ASEAN-5. The sample of this study is 63 banks with an observation period during 2017-2022 which resulted in 378 data. The results of this study are NPL and CAR have a negative and significant effect on ROA. This means that weak credit risk management can affect the decline in ROA. CIR and LDR have a negative and significant effect on ROA, meanwhile NIM has a positive and significant effect. This means that weak intermediation activities between depositors and creditors can also affect the decline in ROA. This study is different from previous studies because it adds the age of the bank as a control variable and expands the observation subjects to ASEAN-5 countries and extends the observation period.
