Abstract

Technological advances in the digital era have changed the way people invest, but have also been used for fraud, as in the case of PT Xpertise Future Analytics Indonesia (XFA AI). This company ran a Ponzi scheme with an invitation-based system and promises large profits. On September 13, 2024, XFA AI disappeared, making off with investors' money. This research aims to analyze company strategies in influencing victims and offer solutions to prevent similar cases. Data was collected through autoethnography, interviews, observation and documentation. The research results show that XFA AI uses a Ponzi scheme with an invitation-based system to recruit new investors. Companies influence victims through promises of huge profits that appeal to individuals with low financial literacy.

Abstract

This study analyzes the representation of the budget efficiency policy in the Prabowo-Gibran cabinet within Kompas TV news reports using Charles Sanders Peirce's semiotic approach. The research aims to uncover hidden meanings behind visual, linguistic, and symbolic signs employed by the media in framing the budget policy issue. Peirce's triadic concept—icon, index, and symbol—is applied to examine the relationship between signs and the construction of meaning conveyed by the media. The research method used is content analysis based on literature study of three news articles published by Kompas TV in February 2025. The findings show that Kompas TV represents the budget efficiency policy in a contradictory manner, with two news articles highlighting the negative impacts of the policy on marginalized communities by emphasizing the discourse of unequal budget distribution, while one article portrays the policy as the government's effort to maintain public welfare. These findings indicate that the media not only act as information conveyors but also as actors shaping public opinion through the construction of meanings that are persuasive and ideological. This study contributes to media studies by illustrating how semiotic practices are used to reinforce critical discourse on public policy.

Abstract

This study aims to analyze the discourse of hoax news related to the Free Nutritious Meal Program (called as Makan Bergizi Gratis (MBG) circulating on social media using Teun A. van Dijk’s socio-cognitive approach. These government-attributed hoaxes contain various linguistic and discursive strategies designed to manipulate the cognitive schemas of the public, such as false legitimacy, promises of high salaries, negative framing, and urgent calls to action. Using qualitative research methods and discourse analysis, five main examples of hoaxes were examined, involving issues of program cancellation, fake volunteer recruitment, milk import claims, and allegations of deaths caused by the MBG program. The analysis reveals that these hoaxes not only spread false information but also effectively exploit the audience’s fears, economic needs, and group identities, thereby causing public unrest and decreasing trust in government programs. The findings underscore the importance of media literacy and appropriate communication strategies as efforts to mitigate hoaxes and strengthen public trust in social welfare programs

Abstract

Children's novels are one of the communication media that has not been studied much in Indonesia compared to research related to adolescents and adults. The contents of children's books are inseparable from the author's ideology. One of them is gender ideology, which has long been constructed in society. Mata di Tanah Melus is a semi-fantasy novel published in early 2018. This study aims to see gender construction through signs in the story. This study used Roland Barthes's semiotic analysis to obtain denotative and connotative meanings. It then forms myths. The results of this study indicate that there is an ambivalent gender construction, especially towards gender roles and gender stereotypes, that gives rise to the myth of benevolent sexism. On the one hand, women in this novel are involved in a patriarchal culture. Women have the opportunity and freedom, but they are still not free from dependence and the dominant role of men.

Abstract

The Israeli occupation of Palestine has been ongoing since 1948. After decades of military aggression, tensions escalated in October 2023 and continued up to the time of this article's writing in March 2025—marking over a year of brutal attacks. One of the major protest movements that gained momentum since October 2023 has been the boycott of brands affiliated with Israel. One such brand is Aqua, a bottled water product whose producer, Danone, is affiliated with Israel. In response to the widespread boycott, Aqua released a "100% Indonesia" TV commercial across television and digital platforms like YouTube. In addition to message analysis, this study aims to understand consumer perceptions of Aqua’s "100% Indonesia" Television Commercial (TVC) and how it influences their decision to continue or discontinue the boycott. A questionnaire was distributed across several groups consisting of Muslims concerned with the Palestinian cause. The results show that consumers with strong religious understanding, who actively follow news about Palestine and participate in pro-Palestine actions, are highly committed to expressing solidarity, one way being through boycotting brands affiliated with the occupiers. Any advertisement, no matter how well-crafted or clearly messaged, will not alter the attitudes and commitments they have made, especially when the product has many available substitutes.

Abstract

SP4N LAPOR! is a vital channel for public aspirations and complaints. Understanding public sentiment towards this service is crucial for quality improvement. This study aims to analyze public sentiment towards SP4N LAPOR! through data triangulation from various sources. Sentiment analysis using a Large Language Model (LLM) was applied to comment data from Instagram (lapor1708) and review data of the SP4N LAPOR! app on the Google Play Store. The results of this quantitative analysis were then triangulated with qualitative findings from in-depth interviews with users. The research consistently shows a dominance of negative sentiment, with only a few positive sentiments. The main complaints driving this negative sentiment are the slow response or follow-up and the lack of transparency regarding the status of reports. Additional insights from triangulation also revealed various technical issues with the platform. In conclusion, although some aspects of the service were rated positively or neutrally, the overall public perception tends to be negative, highlighting crucial areas for improvement in response speed, communication of report statuses, and platform technical stability. This study emphasizes the importance of multi-source analysis for a comprehensive understanding of public service user feedback.

Abstract

Srivijaya is the splendor of the past that shaped world civilization, but the younger generation is now starting to forget the history. History education is important to be a compulsory subject and course because it contains content rich in moral messages of the nation and state, such as nationalism, patriotism, greatness, and integrity, and is even meaningful in contributing to the formation of the imagination of a modern nation-state. There is a value from the struggle of ancestors in the past to be used as an example and reflection of future generations. Data related to Srivijaya, such as research results, books, journals, articles, and historical heritage sites such as museums, are straightforward to obtain literature via the internet; however, the existing data seems scattered and not neatly integrated, for this research is intended to integrate various data so that history is not forgotten and eroded by the development of the times, in fact, the more developed an era, the more its historical roots must be preserved. The urgency of this research is how to align technological advances with preserving the history of Srivijaya; one of the big ideas is to create the Srivijaya Digital Encyclopedia (Srivijayapedia). The formulation of the problem that is the aim of this research is How to build a Digital Encyclopedia as a novelty related to Srivijaya (Srivijayapedia) as an exploration of the history of Srivijaya's glory through digital communication media Virtual Reality based on Immersive Technology. This research uses the theory of digital communication and immersive technology using the mixed research method, where the qualitative method is used for data search using observation and interviews for the encyclopedia's content. In contrast, the quantitative method will be used during the virtual reality experiment. The output of this research is the prototype of the Srivijaya Encyclopedia (Srivijayapedia), which has been added to virtual reality media to make it more communicative and interactive; this idea can contribute to further research.
