Abstract

Diabetes mellitus triggers complications that can cause nerve damage, kidney damage, vision problems, diabetic wounds and cardiovascular problems. Healthy eating patterns, exercise, and family support are several strategies for controlling diabetes mellitus and maintaining blood sugar levels in diabetes sufferers within normal limits. The aim of this study was to determine the relationship between blood glucose levels in individuals with diabetes mellitus and diet compliance, physical activity and family support. Purposive sampling, cross-sectional techniques, and analytical observation were used in this study, which involved 119 participants. Based on this research, there was good family support (84.9%), moderate physical activity (63.9%), and high dietary compliance (84.9%). Analysis using the chi square test obtained a p value of 0.001 (<0.05) which shows that there is a significant relationship between diet compliance, physical activity and family support with blood glucose levels in diabetes mellitus patients at the Bangetayu Health Center, Semarang.

Abstract

Tuberculosis (TB) remains an infectious disease with a high incidence rate, transmitted through airborne droplets. TB patients often face discrimination in various aspects of life. This discrimination can worsen the treatment process, as they may avoid seeking treatment due to fear of being judged or ostracized. Family support for TB patients is expected to aid in treatment adherence and improve their quality of life. This study used a quantitative research design with a cross-sectional approach, involving 55 pulmonary TB patients at Bangetayu Public Health Center in Semarang, selected through total sampling. Data analysis was conducted using univariate and bivariate chi-square analysis. The univariate analysis revealed that 98.2% of respondents had good family support, and 89.1% had a fairly good quality of life. Bivariate analysis using the chi-square test showed a significant relationship between family support and the quality of life of pulmonary TB patients at Bangetayu Public Health Center, with a p-value of 0.001.

Abstract

Backround: Basic immunization is a crucial step in preventing communicable diseases that can be controlled through vaccination in infants. However, the coverage of basic immunization in Indonesia has not yet reached the desired target. One of the factors influencing immunization coverage is the low level of maternal knowledge about immunization. This issue was identified in a preliminary study conducted at PMB Suratni. The objective of this study is to evaluate the effectiveness of health education using audio-visual media in improving mothers' knowledge about basic immunization at PMB Suratni. Methods: This study employed a quasi-experimental design with a control group. A total of 50 mothers with infants aged 0–12 months at PMB Suratni were selected as respondents. The intervention group received health education using audio-visual media, while the control group was given conventional lecture-based education. Data were collected through pretest and posttest questionnaires and analyzed using the Wilcoxon test and N-Gain score. Results: Expert evaluations of the material and media categorized them as appropriate. The study results from both interventions indicated a significant improvement in maternal knowledge in the group that received audio-visual education compared to the control group. The average N-Gain score in the intervention group was 0.72 (high category), whereas the control group scored 0.45 (moderate category). The Wilcoxon test showed a p-value of <0.05, indicating a significant difference between the two groups. Conclusion: Health education using audio-visual media is proven to be more effective in enhancing mothers' knowledge about basic immunization compared to the lecture method. Audio-visual health education can serve as an interactive and informative alternative in health education programs to improve basic immunization coverage in infants.

Abstract

The prevalence of diabetic ulcers in Indonesia is approximately 15%, with an amputation rate of 30% and a mortality rate of 32%. Diabetic ulcers account for 80% of hospitalizations among Diabetes Mellitus patients, due to a combination of peripheral neuropathy and ischemia. The Moist Wound Healing (MWH) method is used to accelerate the healing of diabetic ulcers. MWH maintains wound moisture, creating an optimal environment for tissue growth, speeding up healing, and reducing the risk of infection. This study used a quasi-experimental approach with a pre-test and post-test design, involving 15 patients at the Diabetic Wound Specialist Clinic, Antapani Unit, Bandung. Wound care was carried out over 21 days with weekly observations. Data were analyzed using the Wilcoxon test. The results showed a significant improvement in wound condition after MWH treatment. Before treatment, 40% of patients were in the inflammatory phase, and 60% in the proliferative phase. After treatment, 66.7% were in the proliferative phase, and 20% had reached the remodeling phase. The Wilcoxon test showed a p-value of < 0.001, indicating a significant difference before and after treatment. Conclusion: MWH is effective in accelerating diabetic ulcer healing by promoting the proliferative and remodeling phases. Recommendation: Future studies may explore other factors affecting healing and compare MWH with other wound care method

Abstract

Stroke is one of the leading causes of disability worldwide and significantly impacts patients' quality of life. Physical mobility impairment can reduce patients' independence, while spirituality potentially enhances coping mechanisms. This study aims to evaluate the relationship between spirituality level and the quality of life of stroke patients with physical mobility impairment at RSI Sultan Agung, Semarang. This study employs a descriptive quantitative design with a correlational approach. A total of 88 respondents were selected through simple random sampling and assessed using the Daily Spiritual Experience Scale (DSES) and WHOQOL-BREF. Results indicate that most respondents have a moderate level of spirituality (44.32%) and good quality of life (31.82%). Spearman correlation analysis shows no significant relationship between spirituality level and quality of life (r = 0.134; p = 0.212). Nevertheless, a holistic approach incorporating physical, psychological, social, and spiritual aspects remains essential for enhancing patient well-being.
