Calakan: Jurnal Sastra, Bahasa, dan Budaya adalah jurnal ilmiah (ISSN:2987-9639) yang diterbitkan oleh PT Al-Ahyan Publisher Sukabumi, yang bertujuan untuk memfasilitasi pemahaman yang lebih baik tentang ilmu sastra, bahasa, dan budaya berbasis penelitian di kalangan akademisi dan peneliti serta bertujuan memberikan kontribusi dan pengaruh positif pada dunia ilmu sastra, bahasa, dan budaya. Calakan: Jurnal Sastra, Bahasa, dan Budaya mempublikasikan artikel kajian empiris dan teoritis dengan cakupan sastra, bahasa, budaya, dan seni. Redaksi menerima artikel dalam bahasa Indonesia dan belum di submit atau dipublikasikan pada jurnal lain. Penentuan artikel yang diterima akan melalui proses blind review, di mana reviewer tidak mengetahui identitas dari penulis. Abstract

The research aims to describe the depiction of violence that occurs in the novel Jane Eyre by Charlotte Bronte. The method used in this study is qualitative descriptive with an objective approach. The theory of violence used in this study is Robert F. Litke's theory, with the dimensions of personal and institutional violence in the form of physical and the dimensions of personal and institutional violence in the form of psychology. The results of the study explain that the description of violence contained in Jane Eyre's novel in this study is (1) personal violence in the form of physical, behavior that causes pain or injury and death. (2) Personal violence of a psychological nature, such as those committed by Mrs. Reed, Mr. Blackhurst, Rochester, Celine and Bertha Mason, crimes committed by the father and sister of Rochester and the Masons against Rochester. Non-physical/psychological violence is carried out by means of character assassination and swearing. (3) Institutional violence with physical violence, occurs in school institutions by providing inappropriate feeding to students at Lowood schools. (4) Institutional violence in the form of psychological, the occurrence of a business marriage carried out by two families of Mr. Rochester and the Mason family which has an impact on the lives of Mr. Rochester and Bertha Mason.

Abstract

This research aims to describe the depiction of social discrimination in the novel A Wrinkle In Time by Madeliene L'Engle from the conflict experienced by the main character. The method used in this research is a descriptive qualitative and objective approach, with data collection methods of listening, reading and observing. The discrimination depicted in the novel A Wrinkle In Time includes direct discrimination and indirect discrimination. The results of this research describe social discrimination and its influence on changes in the personalities of Meg Murry and Charles Wallace.

Abstract

This study aims to explain the main character in the short story Lamb to the Slaughter by Roald Dahl. The attitude and characteristics of the main character Mrs. Mary Maloney and how the main character's personality is described in the story. The research uses several theories, such as character and characterization theory. personality theory. Character is a habit of the process of action that is carried out by individuals repeatedly, and characterization refers to the description of the author and the development of the character (Griffith, 1982: 29). There are three categories of characters according to William Kenney (1966:27), based on their function: characters are divided into several types, namely: main characters, secondary characters, and supporting characters. Characterization is the way a writer displays the personality of a character. Both direct and indirect characterizations are used to express characteristics. There are two types of characterization methods: direct and indirect which refer to research results. Keywords: Characteristics; Main Figures; Short Story.

Abstract

The title of this research is Gambaran Kepribadian Maya Angelou Dalam Puisi Caged Bird dan Still I Rise. This research aims to find Maya Angelou's personality in the poems entitled Caged Bird and Still I Rise. This research used personality theory and expressive approach. This research also used qualitative research conducted with descriptive method. The writer found that there are three characteristics of a fully functioning personality in Maya Angelou through her poems, as follows; (1) Openness to experience, (2) Increasingly Existential Living, (3) Trust feelings.

Abstract

Power conflicts are very relevant to discuss in the context of current socio-political life. Social injustice and inequality are often caused by power. The aims of this research are, [1] To describe the power conflict in the novel Bungkam Suara, [2] To explain how Marxist theory can be used to understand the power conflict in the novel Bungkam Suara. This research uses a qualitative descriptive method. The primary data source in this research is the novel Bungkam Suara by J.S. Khairen. Secondary data sources in this research are information obtained through literature, journals and other sources that support and relate to the research topic. The data collection technique used is, reading and taking notes. The findings were then analyzed using Marxist theory on power conflicts. The results of this research conclude three power conflicts, namely, [1] individual conflict, [2] group conflict, [3] state conflict. Marxist theory can be used to understand power conflicts exercised and contested by various characters with different social, economic and political statuses. The interactions between these figures illustrate the dynamics of power conflict involving competition and manipulation in gaining power.

Abstract

There are still many elementary school age children who have learning difficulties in understanding and subtraction arithmetic operations presented in the form of story questions and difficulties in multiplication and division arithmetic operations. The purpose of this study was to determine the difficulties in learning mathematics for elementary school aged children and provide solutions or alternative solutions to overcome these learning difficulties. This research is a descriptive research using a qualitative approach. The subjects of this study were elementary school age students. Data collection techniques using document studies. The results showed that learning difficulties in mathematics were: 1) Difficulties in completing addition and subtraction in the form of math story problems; 2) Difficulty in completing mathematical multiplication and division arithmetic operations. The conclusing of this study is that there are difficulties in learning mathematics in elementary school students in the form of difficulties in addition and subtraction arithmetic operations which are presented in the form of story questions and difficulties in multiplication and division arithmetic operations. Therefore, an effective learning strategy is needed to overcome mathematics learning difficulties in elementary school students.

Abstract

This research aims to improve the understanding of the concept of numbers and number symbols in early childhood, especially 5-6 years old, by using modified cardboard media as a learning aid. This media is designed to provide an interactive, engaging, and appropriate learning experience that is in accordance with the characteristics of early childhood development. The research method used is Classroom Action Research (PTK) which consists of two cycles, where each cycle includes planning, implementation, observation, and reflection stages. The subject of the study is Al Birru Arkan Kindergarten students in the age group of 5-6 years. Data collection techniques include observation, interviews, documentation, and number concept ability tests. The results of the study show that the application of modified cardboard media significantly improves children's understanding of the concept of numbers and number symbols. In cycle I, the average achievement of children's understanding reached 65%, while in cycle II it increased to 85%. The learning process involving modified cardboard media has also been proven to increase children's interest and motivation in learning, so that they are more active in participating in learning activities. The conclusion of this study is that modified cardboard media is effective in improving understanding of the concept of numbers and number symbols in early childhood. This media can be an innovative alternative for teachers in teaching basic mathematics material at the early childhood education level.

Abstract

This research aims to improve the ability to recognize the beginning of hijaiyyah letters in children aged 4-5 years through the use of flashcard media. The problem found in Kober Al-Mahmudin is the low ability of children to recognize hijaiyyah letters, which is caused by the lack of use of interesting learning media and in accordance with the characteristics of early childhood. This study uses the Classroom Action Research (PTK) method with the Kemmis and McTaggart model, which consists of four stages: planning, action, observation, and reflection. The subjects of this study are 15 children aged 4-5 years in Kober Al-Mahmudin. Data were collected through observation, interviews, and documentation, and analyzed in a qualitative and quantitative descriptive manner. The results of the study show that the application of flashcard media can improve the ability to recognize the beginning of hijaiyyah letters in children. In the first cycle, the percentage of children's ability to recognize hijaiyyah letters reached 65%, and increased to 90% in the second cycle. In addition, children show increased interest and enthusiasm in the learning process. In conclusion, flashcard media has proven to be effective in helping early childhood recognize hijaiyyah letters more easily and fun. Therefore, it is recommended that educators in Early Childhood Education (PAUD) use interactive and interesting learning media to support optimal child development.

Abstract

This research aims to develop counting skills in children aged 5-6 years through the dice game method at PAUD Dian. Early Childhood Education (ECE) plays a crucial role in preparing children for further education, especially in cognitive development which includes counting abilities. The play-based learning method is expected to enhance children's interest and participation in learning activities. Initial observations revealed that many children were disinterested and not proficient in counting. Therefore, this study utilized dice games as an engaging learning medium. The results indicate that this method is effective in improving children's counting skills and provides benefits for teachers, students, and educational institutions.

Abstract

This study aims to determine the efforts of teachers in improving social skills of children aged 5-6 years through the role-playing method in Kober Insan Madani. Social skills are children's ability to interact positively with others, including the ability to cooperate, share, and resolve conflicts. This study uses a qualitative descriptive approach with a case study method. Data was collected through observation, interviews, and documentation. The results of the study show that the role-playing method is effective in improving children's social skills. Through careful planning, creative execution, and structured evaluation, children learn to understand social roles, empathy, and how to communicate well. The obstacles found include the lack of attention of children during activities and the limitations of play facilities and infrastructure. However, these obstacles can be overcome by teacher innovation in providing interesting learning media and involving parents in supporting activities. This research provides benefits for teachers, parents, and educational institutions in improving early childhood social skills. The application of the role-playing method has been proven to be able to create a fun and educational learning experience, so that it can be one of the effective strategies in learning in early childhood education.
