Abstract

This research is based on students class XI Mathematics and Natural Sciences, who have difficulty understanding the material of human respiratory system. the results of interviews with biology teachers obtained data that the absence of instructional media in the form of biology book based on mind map on human respiratory system materials for students class XI Mathematics and Natural Sciences for senior high school eleven of Jambi city. Therefore it is necessary media of learning that can help student to understand material of human respiration system. This study aims to develop, determine the feasibility and know the teacher response and student responses to products developed. The type of research is development research using the ADDIE development model. Types of research data in the form of quantitative data and qualitative data. The instrument used is an open questionnaire and closed questionnaire in the form of Likert scale. While the data analysis used in the form of descriptive analysis technique. The results of validation by the material expert obtained an average score of 3.27 included into the category "feasible". The results of validation by the media expert obtained an average score of 2.95 including the category "feasible". Furthermore, the test of biology teacher's response obtained an average score of 91.29 including the "good" category and the student's response test obtained an average score of 90.43 including the "good" category.

Abstract

The research on the fifth-grade students of SD Negeri 093 Sungai Abang Village was driven by the researchers’ desire to enhance students' learning outcomes, especially in the subject of English. The researcher's findings indicated that the average student achievement scores were still low, below the Minimum Mastery Criteria (KKM) set by the school. Out of a total of 12 students, only 2 students or 16.7% reached the KKM. As an alternative solution to this issue, the researcher conducted Classroom Action Research (CAR) by implementing the Contextual Teaching and Learning (CTL) method. The research was conducted in the second semester of the 2022/2023 academic year, involving 12 students. The data analysis results from Cycle I showed that the average class score had reached the KKM, with 9 out of 12 students (75%) reaching the KKM. Students' learning outcomes improved in Cycle II, where almost all students, 11 out of 12 (91.7%), reached the KKM. This research demonstrates that the use of CTL was appropriately applied in English language learning, particularly in the material taught in the higher grade levels as the subject of the research.

Abstract

This research is a quantitative research with the method used is the pre-experimental design method and using the one group pretest-posttest research design. The subjects in this study were students of class V, totaling 28 students. The data analysis technique used is the normality test with the one-sample Kolmogorov-Smirnov formula, Paired Sample t-tets. Based on data analysis on the effect of using sociodrama-based Project Based Learning on Javanese language learning, the average pretest result was 54.46, after being given the sociodrama-based Project Based Learning treatment the posttest results obtained an average of 78.04. Based on the paired sample t-test table, the t_count value is 30.797, this t_count value can be compared with t_table with dk = (N-1) so (28-1) = 27 at a 5% significance level, namely 2.056. Which means H_0 is rejected and H_a is accepted. So the hypothesis states that "there is an effect of using sociodrama-based Project Based Learning on Javanese language learning in class V SD Negeri Sambirejo Surakarta Academic Year 2022/2023" can be stated as true.

Abstract

This study aims to determine students' perceptions about using Instagram reels to improve speaking ability. This research used descriptive qualitative research instruments by conducting interviews with 10 students who have used Instagram reels as a medium to improve their speaking ability in the English Department at Muhammadiyah University of Muara Bungo. The researcher found, referring to the results of student interviews, that most students gave a positive perception of using the Instagram reel application. Several obstacles cause the learning process to be ineffective, ranging from disturbances caused by other Instagram users that cause students not to focus on the learning process and can cause concentration disturbances to fraudulent fraud that occurs on Instagram, which causes students confusion when trying to find an account for learn to improve speaking ability.

Abstract

The objective of this research was to describe about the teachers strategies in teaching English speaking skill at SMA N 1. Speaking is needed for the student to convey their goal and to make them fluent in speaking. To achieve the goal of the lesson, the teacher needs the good and interesting strategies to make the student easier to understand about the material. To gain the needed data, the researcher used observation sheet and interview guideline based on three expert theories. They are killian (1999), Leo (2013). And Anjaniputra (2013). Observation sheet was to identify the strategies that is used by the teacher and interview guideline was to collect the data about the teachers’ reason of choosing that strategies. This research was conducted descriptive qualitative research with phenomenal approach. Descriptive qualitative research with phenomenal method was to describe about the teachers experience in teaching English speaking skill at SMA N 1 Bungo. for the participants, there were 4 English teachers at SMA N 1 Bungo. The results showed that the teachers used 9 strategies in teaching English speaking skill. There were plenty of practice, telling and showing, questioning for checking understanding, setting clear lesson and goals it, teach strategies not just content, getting student working together, training interview, improving their discussion, and make your idea.in addition, plenty of practice become the strategy mostly used by the teacher because speaking need practice to increae the student speaking skill. Abstract

The TOEFL test is globally acknowledged as the foremost assessment tool for evaluating English proficiency levels (Warfield, 2013:133). This study explores the English department students' readiness for the TOEFL examination, with a specific focus on 4th-semester students enrolled in the TOEFL preparation class at STKIP MB. An observed issue pertains to reading comprehension difficulties encountered by students in this class. This difficulty primarily stems from the complexity and length of the texts, making it challenging to grasp the core ideas. Furthermore, students have been exposed to Academic Reading and Extensive Reading prior to the advanced Reading (TOEFL reading) section. This context demands specific skills such as extracting key ideas from passages, addressing direct and indirect questions, and enhancing vocabulary (Phillips, 2001). This research identifies a link between reading comprehension and reading techniques. Patel and Jain (2008:80) distinguish intensive, extensive, Aloud, and Silent reading techniques, with students struggling to maintain focus and comprehend texts effectively. Inefficient strategies often lead to time-consuming responses to reading comprehension questions. Another significant hurdle is that students tend to read passages word by word, hindering their ability to retain information. Harmar (2018:25) aptly notes, "Reading is an exercise dominated by the eyes and the brain," emphasizing that reading serves as a medium to obtain information and understand the meaning of text. However, the reality reveals a deficit in understanding words or sentences in English among some students, indicative of inadequate reading comprehension and limited vocabulary. This research also highlights the challenges faced by college students preparing for TOEFL, wherein tests exhibit varied formats, making them significantly different from typical assessments. The abundance of seemingly correct answer choices often perplexes students, leading to confusion and inconsistency in selecting the right answers. Furthermore, the students frequently grapple with tense usage and vocabulary limitations in the English language. Notably, reading comprehension consistently emerges as the lowest-scoring section in the TOEFL test. In conclusion, this study aims to address the reading comprehension difficulties encountered by STKIP MB 4th Semester Students in the TOEFL preparation class. By examining the correlation between reading techniques, comprehension strategies, and vocabulary enhancement, the research strives to provide effective solutions to improve TOEFL reading scores and overall English proficiency among students.

Abstract

ABSTRACT The problem in this reseach is were related to vocabulary pronunciation and memory which were still lacking and maybe this application could help students remember and repeat the vocabulary he already knows so that it is not easily forgotten When the learning process takes place,one that will hinder learning new vocabulary because it might be the medium used boring or monotonous. In the learning process consider teaching vocabulary, there will be new and different things that make students interestedhelp them learn new vocabulary, not only memorized, but also applicable. This reseach is quantiatitative ,this reseach was use experimental reseach method with experimental design , the subjects of four grade are 20 students , The data collection technique is pre-test, post-test, and treatment ,the reseach was use vocabulary test is 10 multiple choice . The results of reseach data analysis show that use of , there was effectiveness of using memrise application towards students' vocabulary mastery at alam elementary school for fourth grade .this can be seen from the pre-test the score of pretest is 49,9 before given treatment of memrise application , and the score of post –test is 74,7 after given treatment of memrise application ,it can be effectiveness that use of memrise application . Abstract

This research was about the development of english toddler book based moral value. The purpose of this research is to see the development of English and moral value toddler through the application of English book based moral value. The method would used in this research is research and development. According to (Thiagarajan, 1974) states that development 4D model is a system approach model where compiled and based on previous models and based on actual field experience in designing, developing, evaluating, and disseminating teacher training materials in education special. Data collecting technique in this research is used questionnaires and observation sheets. The results of this research indicate that the English book based moral value in this development research are valid for use with good quality media. the result of content validation by content expert is 75.5% in valid category, the result of media validation by media expert is 92.5% in very valid category, the result of teacher perspective is 97% and the final result of observation is 94.4%.

Abstract

This research was about current topics with the implementation of the new curriculum implemented in Indonesia, especially in Muara Bungo. Namely Merdeka belajar curriculum that was implemented. The purpose of this study is to know the teacher’s perception toward Merdeka Belajar Curriculum. The Merdeka belajar curriculum is a new curriculum that was implemented at SMPN 4 Muara Bungo especially in grade 7. This type of research is a research design that applies Descriptive qualitative with Qualitative Methods. The participants in this study were English teachers in SMPN 4 Muara Bungo. The sampling technique was purposive sampling. The instrument used in this study was open-ended-questions and semi structured for interviews. The result show of the study reveals that teachers have positive and negative perception on the implementation of Merdeka belajar curriculum. There are several factors that influence the teacher's positive perception of the implementation of Merdeka belajar Curriculum, namely teacher teaching experience, educational background, and teacher training. But the negative perceptions that teachers have was in the form of a lack of teaching media, lack of support from schools in fulfilling teaching media that can help the learning process, and also teachers' difficulties in grouping students based on their hobbies and characteristics.

Abstract

This research discusses the problems of students at State Vocational High School 4 Bungo. This research aims to help students and teachers in English lessons, especially in enriching vocabulary, because from the observations that have been made by researchers, the vocabulary known by students is very low, which greatly affects students when they want to continue the lesson. Researchers chose Tik Tok as a learning medium at Vocational High School 4 Bungo because the TikTok application can be processed into an interesting and interactive learning medium for students.The research method used is classroom action research to improve the quality of learning and help empower teachers to solve learning problems at school. This research took place in two cycles of action. The first cycle occurred on Monday, July 17, 2023, and July 24, 2023; the second cycle occurred on Monday, July 31, 2023, and August 7, 2023. The subjects of this study were 11 students, consisting of 3 female students and 8 male students in class XI MM Vocational High School 4 Bungo.Based on the results of the pre-test conducted before treatment, only 2 students scored above the Minimum Completeness Criteria (KKM). After the researcher conducted cycle 1 and applied the treatment, then conducted a post-test, the results obtained were 6 students who scored above the Minimum Completeness Criteria (KKM). And in cycle 2, there were 9 people who scored above the KKM. So, the increase in student learning activities from pre-test, cycle I, to cycle II is 80%. From the results of the data analysis, it can be concluded that classroom action research using the Tik Tok application can enrich students' vocabulary.
