Abstract

Arboretum is an artificial forest that collects various types of plants for educational purposes and plant preservation. The development of an arboretum requires basic information on environmental conditions and tree species suitable for planting. Therefore, this study was carried out with the aim of selecting tree species for the development of the arboretum at Campus IV, Khairun University. The research was carried out at Campus IV of Khairun University which included a study of land conditions, a literature review of local tree species, and tree species selection. A potential location for an arboretum is the triangular park at the campus entrance. This location was planted with the Angsana species (Pterocarpus indicus) in 2019, which has now grown to the pole and tree stage with an average height of 6 m and an average crown diameter of 4.1 m. The soil has a clay texture with a pH of 5.2 and humidity of 55%. Thus, the location can be planted with intolerant tree species on the edges and tolerant species in the middle which has been shaded by angsana vegetation. The tree species selected for species enrichment in the arboretum are local species in the Wallacea region, namely Canarium indicum, Palaquium spp., Syzygium malaccense, Vitex cofassus and Diospyros celebica; timber wood-producing species, namely Swietenia macrophylla and Ochroma pyramidale; producer of gaharu NTFPs, namely Aquilaria malaccensis; and shade-tree for aesthetics, namely Tabebuia rosea.

Abstract

The potential of purple yam (Dioscorea alata L.) as a source of natural antioxidants has not been optimally utilized by the community. So there is a need for innovation in the utilization of purple yam through food diversification. Sago starch has amylose and amylopectin content similar to tapioca. So that in this study we wanted to develop boba with the basic ingredients of sago starch and the addition of purple yam. This study aims to produce boba that has antioxidant activity and is liked by panelists from variations in purple yam preparation and the use of sago starch on physical, chemical properties and preference level. This study used two preparation methods, namely steaming and boiling with variations in the concentration of sago and purple yam puree 48g:12g, 42g:18g and 36g:24g. Bubble pearl was tested for color, moisture content, antioxidant activity, anthocyanin content, liking test and selected samples were tested for total phenol content and ash content. The experimental design used was a complete randomized design with 2 factorials and the data were statistically tested using Univariate Analysis of Variance and ANOVA, if there was a significant difference, followed by DMRT test with α=0,05. The results showed that the preparation method and concentration of sago starch and purple yam puree had a significant effect on the increase in antioxidant activity and anthocyanin content. The selected boba that was favored by panelists was boba with steaming treatment with a concentration of sago starch and purple yam puree of 34g:24g with a moisture content of 67,12% bb, antioxidant activity of 59,54% RSA, anthocyanin content of 8,45 mg/g bk, total phenols of 30,46 mg GAE/g bk, and ash content of 0,02% bk.  Keywords : purple yam puree, antioxidant, boba

Abstract

The North Maluku region is famous for its agricultural sector, sub-sector of coconut plantations. However, there are various problems that become challenges in efforts to increase coconut production in North Maluku. The purpose of the study was to obtain information on morphological characteristics and growth related to the dose of arbuscular mycorrhizal fungi and the composition of the growing media. The research was conducted at the North Maluku Plantation (BPTP) from August 2019 to February 2020. The study used a factorial of 2 factors, namely the dose of JMA and the composition of the growing media. The first factor is the dose of JMA which consists of 3 levels of M1 (2g); M2 (4g); and M3 (6g). The second factor is a combination of 3 levels of planting media; manure (PK): sawdust (SG): sand (Ps). Data were analyzed using variance (analysis of variance). The results showed that the combination of treatment with a dose of JMA and a certain planting media could stimulate the growth of plant height, stem circumference, number of variables, and the highest crown length at the age of 6 bst. Keywords: bido coconut, arbuscular mycorrhizal fungi, growing media, morphological and growth characteristics

Abstract

Dayak tribe, as the native people of Kalimantan, has used the Keluwek plant for generations to prepare food sources of protein such as meat and fish. Apart from getting a preferred taste, this plant has also extended the food shelf life. This research aims to determine the sensory response profile of cooked products from preserved fish using Keluwek leaves. Tilapia fish is preserved using chopped Keluwek leaves for 2 days, then steamed and fried to get the cooked product. The organoleptic properties of fresh fish from preservation were compared with fresh fish without preservation using a quality assessment score of 1-9 based on SNI 01-2729.1-2006 for eyes, body surface mucus, odor, and texture. The cooked product's hedonic organoleptic properties and hedonic quality (color, aroma, taste and texture) were also observed (score 1-5). The results showed that on day 2 of preservation, the sensory properties of preserved fish were significantly different (p0.001) from fish without preservation for the eye, body surface mucus, smell, and texture attribute. Meanwhile, the sensory properties of the steamed cooked product are significantly different (p0.001) from those for the taste attribute but are not significantly different (p0.001) for the color, aroma, and texture attribute. Likewise, the sensory properties of the cooked fried product are significantly different (p0.001) for the color, aroma, taste and texture attribute. The steamed cooked product of preserved tilapia received a neutral response. for the attribute of color, aroma, taste, and texture. Meanwhile, the cooked fried product of preserved tilapia received a bit dislike response for the attribute of color, smell, taste, and a neutral response to texture attribute. Keywords: Keluwek, Nile fish, fish preservation.

Abstract

Success in achieving pregnancy in cows can be done with the right lust detection. Measurement of the Graaf's follicle greatly determines the estrus cycle in cattle. Precise heat detection can be done by measuring body temperature in cattle. Measurement of body temperature can be done as a way to detect estrus in cows. The purpose of this study was to determine the relationship between the diameter of the Graaf follicle and body temperature  during the estrus cycle in Brahman cattle. Data collection was carried out by observing the diameter of de Graaf follicles using ultrasound, the duration of estrus, body temperature in Brahman cattle which is done every day. The data obtained will be analyzed descriptively and presented in graphical form then the data from ultrasound observations on the diameter of the de Graaf follicle will be presented in tabular form. Based on the results of research on farms at BPTU-HPT Sembawa, it was shown that the size of the Graaf follicles of Brahman cattle during estrus was 29 mm. Body temperature  during estrus were 39.3℃. Based on the results of the study it can be concluded that Brahman cows during estrus experience an increase in body  temperature. An increase in body temperature  is also followed by an increase in the size of the Graafian follicle. The increase in body temperature  is caused by an increase in estrogen levels, which is indicated by an increase in the size of the Graaf follicles during estrus. The high hormone estrogen causes an increase in blood flow body temperature to rise. Keywords: De graaf follicles, Estrus, Body Temperature.

Abstract

Necrobia is the main pest in attacking copra in storage. Copra farmers in North Maluku are often worried about this pest because it causes considerable losses, especially for export materials and for the welfare of the farmers. Therefore, this study uses Lantana camara, a vegetable pesticide known as a weed that grows wild as an alternative to synthetic pesticides that cause pest resistance. The purpose of this study was to test the effectiveness of Lantana camara weed as a vegetable pesticide to control Necrobia sp. The research method used a completely randomized design (CRD) with 4 treatments namely control (Lc0) , Lantana camara (Lc1) 5 grams, Lantana camara (Lc2) 10 grams and Lantana camara (Lc3) 15 grams repeated 4 times, with 20 test samples. (second instar larvae of Necrobia sp) for each treatment. With the parameters of the Mortality test of Necrobia pests, Copra Shrinkage and as a support by observing the condition of the warehouse. The results showed that the higher the dose of Lc, the greater the mortality of Necrobia sp. Also at a dose of 15 grams it can produce smaller copra losses with 12.36% copra losses. The condition of the warehouse in Bastiong, Central Ternate Village, still does not have good facilities for copra storage such as floor mats, ventilation and there is only one main door. Keywords:  Necrobia rufipes, Lantana camara, Copra

Abstract

The pressure on land resources in the Ake Leijamata Sub-DAS is mainly related to increasing the use of land for agriculture. The increase in land use for agriculture in the Ake Leijemata Sub-DAS has led to the conversion of limited production forest (LPF) and Protected Forest (PF) areas to agricultural land. So that the condition of the Ake Leijamata Sub-DAS does not continue to experience a decline in quality, a land use plan that is in accordance with its potential is needed through land suitability analysis. This study aims to evaluate land suitability and determine land management directions for the development of teak and jabon crops in the Ake Leijamata Sub- DAS. This study used the purposive sampling method where the observation of homogeneous land units (12 units of land). Land suitability analysis uses a matching method between land quality and the requirements for growing crops including teak and jabon plants. The results showed that the actual land suitability for teak and jabon crops was 771.3 ha (48.9%) and non-conforming (N) covering an area of 806.9 ha (51.1%). In particular, the appropriate land is divided into sufficient classes (S2) covering an area of 399.3 ha (25.3%) and according to marginal (S3) covering an area of 372.0 ha (23.6%). In potential conditions, very suitable class land (S1) covering an area of 35.6 ha (2.3%), quite appropriate (S2) covering an area of 363.7 ha (23.0%) and marginalized (S3) covering an area of 372.0 ha (23.6%).  Efforts to improve dry month limiting factors through the provision of water from surface water (river water) or the manufacture of water harvesting buildings (dams), rainfall limiting factors specifically for teak plants are improved through soil treatment and the manufacture of drainage channels, nitrogen and potassium nutrient limiting factors are improved through the application of urea and KCl fertilizers or using compound fertilizers (phonska). Improvement of erosion hazard limiting factors through the application of agroforestry systems, planting according to contours, and planting of ground cover crops (legume cover croop). Meanwhile, improvements to the threat of flooding can be done through the creation of flood prevention buildings or planting plants on river embankments.

Abstract

Various studies have been carried out in post-harvest handling of tomatoes to maintain quality quality. Among them is research on the effect of ripeness level and concentration of Chitosan CC on the quality and quality of tomatoes (solanum lycopersicum L.), in addition to the influence of the type of packaging material, temperature and storage duration on the quality characteristics of tomatoes. However, research on post-harvest handling of tomatoes using newsprint packaging methods, dried banana leaves, Styrofoam lunch boxes and plastic PP has not been carried out. Therefore, this study aims to see the effect of post-harvest handling on tomato quality with the use of different edible coating chitosan coconut crabs (Cs CC). This study used a Complete Randomized Design (RAL) with 1 factor consisting of 5 treatments using Chitosan Coconut Crabs (Cs CC). The treatment is as follows: P0 = Control, P1 = Cs CC 1%, P2 = Cs CC 2%, P3 = Cs CC 3%, P4 = Cs CC 4%. The results showed that tomatoes with early ripeness level showed weight loss, and a significantly higher level of consumer favorability, as well as a significantly lower level of fruit hardness compared to tomatoes with early green ripeness.  The results of research on the effect of using edible coating crab shell waste are proven to maintain tomato weight loss of less than 10% during storage time with treatment, the higher the concentration of edible coating will inhibit shrinkage, the smaller weight shrinkage. In the results of the study, the best value was produced in research with an edible coating concentration of 0.75% with the lowest weight shrinkage value of 5.22%. Tomatoes with early ripeness level of turning show shrinkage, and a significantly higher level of consumer favorability, as well as a significantly lower level of fruit hardness compared to tomatoes with an early green ripeness. Chitosan concentration of 2 % significantly increases the solute content of tomato fruits.
