Abstract

This study aims to analyze the suitability and linguistic quality of the Indonesian Language book Bergerak Bersama for fifth grade elementary school students based on content suitability standards according to the National Education Standards Agency (BSNP) and the rules of Indonesian Spelling (EYD) Edition V. This study uses a qualitative descriptive analysis method with an evaluative approach. The analysis focused on four main aspects, namely content, language, presentation, and graphics, as well as linguistic studies at the syntactic, semantic, morphological, discourse, and phonological levels. The results of the study show that in terms of content, this book is in accordance with the learning elements and learning outcomes (CP), and contains themes that are relevant to the context of students' lives, such as empathy, anti-bullying, and language skills. In terms of language, the majority of the spelling, sentence structure, and punctuation are in accordance with EYD Edition V, although some minor errors were found, such as the use of punctuation and sentence structure that are not effective. Linguistically, this book is consistent in its use of sentence structure and language meaning, including lexical, grammatical, and contextual meaning. This study recommends several minor improvements, such as subheading markings, speech element presentation, and the addition of explanatory labels to support readability. Thus, this book is considered suitable for use as a textbook at the elementary school level. The main contribution of this study is to provide an evaluative basis for the development of textbooks that not only comply with the national curriculum but also meet good and correct linguistic standards.

The object of this study is the drama series "Gadis Kretek" which is broadcast on the Netflix application. The subjects of this study were all viewers of the drama series "Gadis Kretek". Data collection techniques, namely observation, questionnaires, and documentation. Data analysis techniques in this study, namely recording the respondent's answer scores, tabulating the respondent's answers, finding the percentage, and interpreting the percentage results. The results of this study show that of the twelve statements in the questionnaire, the results obtained were that the most dominant statements were of agreement. The most statements of agreement are found in statements 4, 6, and 7, namely 26 (9%). Meanwhile, the fewest statements of agreement are found in statement 1, namely 20 (7%). This study shows that the audience has a fairly high awareness of gender inequality issues presented in visual literary works. This can be a basis for content creators and educators to further utilize popular media as an educational tool in fostering critical awareness of gender issues in society.

Abstract

This study aims to analyze the transformation of plot, characters, characterization, setting, and themes in Ramayana by Nyoman S. Pendit and Sinta Obong by Adrian Kresna, as well as their implications for literacy education in higher education. Using a qualitative approach and a comparative literature analysis method, the study finds that although both novels share a similar ending, they differ significantly in narrative structure, conflict development, and character representation. Sinta Obong presents a modern reinterpretation by emphasizing psychological depth, introducing more complex layers of setting, and expanding emotional conflicts that do not appear in Ramayana. These transformations illustrate a process of meaning negotiation that reflects shifts in cultural and ideological values. The findings indicate that comparative literary analysis can strengthen students’ critical literacy, cultural literacy, and intertextual literacy, making it highly relevant for literacy instruction in higher education.

Abstract

Character education is education that develops cultural values and national character so that individuals possess and apply these values in their lives as members of society and citizens who are religious, productive, and creative. Film is a popular medium that not only serves as entertainment but also as a means of character education. This study aims to analyze the representation of character education values in an Indonesian animated film titled Jumbo through Roland Barthes' semiotic approach. The analysis focuses on visual and verbal signs that represent character values such as nationalism, integrity, discipline, responsibility, cooperation, creativity, and social awareness. The research method used is descriptive qualitative with data collection techniques from watching and recording scenes, dialogues, and visual symbols in the film. The results of the analysis show that each scene contains denotati.ve, connotative, and mythical meanings that are interrelated, thus forming a contextual and implicit representation of character education values. The film Jumbo features the character Don, who faces bullying, the loss of his parents, and social challenges, but is guided by his family and friends to develop courage, empathy, and integrity. The interactions between characters, visual symbols, and the film's storyline are able to instill moral and social values in child and adolescent audiences. Thus, this film is not only a medium of entertainment but also serves as an effective educational tool for the internalization of character values, in line with the Character Education Strengthening Program (PPK) in Indonesia

The data source of this research is MA Nusantara students' writing in 2023. The method used is descriptive qualitative. The data were obtained using the listening method and note-taking technique. Data analysis uses a flow chart analysis model. The stages of this model analysis are data reduction, data presentation, and conclusion drawing. The results of the study found language errors at the phonological level as much as 667 data, language errors at the morphological level as much as 17 data, and language errors at the syntactic level as much as 97 data.  Language errors made by students need to be evaluated as soon as possible, because they illustrate language learning that has not been achieved. The higher the quantity of errors, the greater the language learning objectives that have not been achieved. In addition, the quantity of errors can be the teacher's benchmark for students' language competence.

Abstract

This study determined the influence of the literature circle strategy as a teaching method to develop reading skills among 37 Grade 10 students in the Laboratory High School Department of Abra State Institute of Sciences and Technology. Using a descriptive-comparative and experimental research design, the investigation measured students’ interpreting reading ability to determine the main idea, to find the information, to infer, and to sequence before and after treatment. The descriptive method was used to determine the levels of students’ initial reading comprehension, while a comparative method was used to explore and compare the students’ reading comprehension levels at different stages of the study, and an experimental method was used to determine the effectiveness of the literature circle. It emerged that students had shown adequate understanding before the intervention, but had difficulty with sequencing. Results following the intervention were significantly improved in all comprehension features, but most notably in identifying main ideas and locating information. The pre- and post-intervention scores showed a statistically significant difference. The research concluded that the literature circle did enhance reading comprehension in all of the areas; however, it focused on the main idea, looking for information, inference, and sequencing. Suggestions were to integrate literature circle strategy into regular instruction to improve sequencing skills, support students’ varied learning styles, foster collaboration, and increase overall comprehension. Explicit instruction focused on sequencing may be integrated using visual aids and graphic organizers to help students practice and internalize sequencing skills. Further research was recommended to examine the impact of the strategy on diverse student populations for wider adoption.
