Abstract

This study aims to enhance emotional regulation skills among orphanage children through a classical guidance approach based on dzikir (Islamic remembrance). Children living in orphanages often face limitations in emotional caregiving, which affects their affective balance. The activity was carried out in two face-to-face sessions at Rumah Harapan Orphanage in Samarinda, involving 15 children aged 8–12 years. The methods used included interactive lectures, group discussions, observations, games, and dzikir practices such as "Subhanallah", "Alhamdulillah", and "Astaghfirullah". The results indicated an increase in the children’s self-awareness and their ability to manage emotions through an Islamic spiritual approach. This classical guidance created a safe and educational space, actively engaging the children in understanding and applying dzikir as a positive self-regulation strategy.

Abstract

Community service research in Margaasih Village, Margaasih Sub‑district, Bandung Regency, aims to map and develop the potential of local resource‑based micro, small, and medium enterprises (MSMEs) through the integration of Geographic Information Systems (GIS) and participatory approaches. The 290.44 ha village is home to 26,083 residents, 44 percent of whom are of productive age (16–59 years). According to village government data, 425 MSME units are spread across five hamlets, predominantly in the trade, culinary, and garment sectors. This study adopts the Resource‑Based View (RBV), Endogenous Growth Theory, and Sustainable Rural Livelihoods Framework (SRLF) to examine the competitive advantages of MSMEs and the dynamics of village development. Employing a Participatory Action Research (PAR) methodology, the research includes situational analysis using GIS, service action planning, implementation of digital management training, and impact evaluation. Business management training, digital literacy workshops, and microfinance facilitation have been proven to enhance the capacity of MSME actors. The resulting “Local Resource‑Based MSME Potential” model is intended as an operational reference for village governments and partner institutions in designing more effective, inclusive, and sustainable economic empowerment programs

Abstract

The digitization of public services is a critical effort to achieve ease and transparency in government functions, often facilitated through a village website. However, not all village websites are managed optimally, a challenge observed at the Banguntapan Village website. This community service activity aimed to strengthen the management and utilization of the Banguntapan Village website to support the digitization of public services. The methods used were education, mentoring, and socialization. The results show that following these interventions, there was an 85% increase in the knowledge and skills of officials in managing the website. Additionally, this activity successfully raised public awareness regarding the existence and utilization of the website. In conclusion, the community service activities successfully enhanced both officials' capabilities and public awareness. Recommendations from this activity include the need for stronger leadership support to build a digital ecosystem, a clear division of tasks for employees, and the participation of staff in regular website management training. Furthermore, content creation should be aligned with each department's duties, and clear procedures for website management should be established.

Abstract

This study examines gender relations and role dynamics among women working in health services (Puskesmas). The research conducted in depth interviews to uncover the paradox in the workplace with eight months of PAR involving 15 healthcare workers in Yogyakarta. Although the majority of health workers are women, organisational structures and leadership practices continue to adhere to masculine values, such as assertiveness in decision making. This creates a workplace where women are underrepresented in leadership roles. In the domestic sphere, the main findings of this service demonstrate that women working in professional fields face a double burden, characterised by the phenomenon of two shifts, where they are solely responsible for both their household and professional responsibilities. This physical and mental burden places women in the role of home coordinator and family emotional bearer. In couple relationships, a collaborative or team model is used, but patriarchy remains, albeit modified. Couples maintain symbolic boundaries of masculinity and patriarchy in the form of cultural residue. Despite this, the interviewees demonstrate a high level of critical awareness, viewing nature as a social construct, rejecting rigid gender dichotomies, and adopting a flexible and functional understanding of gender.

Abstract

The low level of literacy interest among elementary school students in Indonesia is a significant issue that affects the quality of education. This condition was also identified at SD Negeri Panaikang 1 Makassar, where library management had not been optimized, resulting in limited support for students' reading culture. This community service program aimed to revitalize the school library management system to enhance students' literacy interest through an educational internship program. The program was conducted over seven days using a participatory approach involving the internship team, the principal, teachers, library staff, and students. This approach was implemented through collaborative stages of observation and problem identification, planning the library reorganization, rearranging the library space and book collections, developing a library administration system, establishing reading corners, providing library management socialization for the school community, and jointly evaluating the program outcomes. The results showed that the revitalization of library management successfully created a more organized, comfortable, and functional library environment. The program's success was demonstrated by an increase in students' library visits from 5–10 students per week to 25–35 students per week, as well as an increase in book borrowing from fewer than five books to 15–20 books per week following the reorganization. Therefore, the revitalization of school library management through a participatory approach within an educational internship program proved effective in increasing library utilization and strengthening the literacy culture among elementary school students.

Abstract

The management of urban toll highways reflects the quality of public service governance, political legitimacy and social justice. Private highways as strategic toll road infrastructure in Malaysia play an important role in supporting public mobility and urban economic activities. This community service initiative aims to strengthen public service governance within the private highway operational system by enhancing policy literacy, encouraging public participation and developing a multi-stakeholder partnership model. The programme involved 20 participants, including 5 road users and community members and 20 representatives from highway operators, private developers and regulatory institutions, through awareness-raising and training activities. The implementation also incorporated information technology through an automatic balance advance system that provides temporary credit support for cashless toll payments, enabling users to maintain access to toll services when their account balance is insufficient. Field interviews and evaluations indicate that private highway governance relies on coordination between private developers, regulators, and the Ministry of Public Works. Post-programme evaluation showed an 80% improvement in participants' understanding of public service policies, rights and obligations compared with their pre-programme understanding. The engagement activities also strengthened awareness of stakeholder roles and responsibilities and informed the development of a partnership model linking government, the private sector, and the community. Political legitimacy and public trust were further supported through free facilities, including motorcycle access and rest areas, the implementation of cashless payment systems with automatic balance advance support, and compliance with Minimum Service Standards. Overall, the initiative demonstrates that strengthening policy literacy, stakeholder participation and technology-enabled public services can contribute to more responsive public service governance and foster a symbiotic partnership among government, private sector and community stakeholders in Malaysia's private highway system.

Abstract

Waste management in rural areas continues to face challenges, including limited facilities, low environmental awareness, and unstructured handling of inorganic waste, as observed in Wonoanti Village, Gandusari District, Trenggalek Regency. This condition necessitates a community-based approach that mobilizes local assets. This community service program aims to establish and launch the Wonoasri Waste Bank and to foster household-level waste-sorting practices. The activities were conducted in July 2025 using the Asset-Based Community Development method, encompassing asset identification, vision formulation with the Village-Owned Enterprise, a preliminary survey indicating that 65% of residents were interested in participating, socialization at the hamlet hall, and the inauguration of the waste bank site in Manggis Hamlet. The results suggest increased community enthusiasm, as reflected in active participation during question-and-answer sessions, the formation of a management structure, and the commitment of community leaders to program governance. The Wonoasri Waste Bank appears to have the potential to serve as a sustainable waste management model that integrates environmental education, the economic value of waste, and community participation, and may be replicated in other villages through regular mentoring and a transparent incentive system.

Abstract

The increasing number of Indonesian children growing up in diaspora communities presents a challenge in maintaining their national identity amid the dominance of the language, culture, and social systems of their host countries. Previous studies have generally addressed Pancasila education, the preservation of the Indonesian language, or the introduction to Nusantara culture separately; thus, research that integrates these three aspects within the context of international community service programs remains relatively limited. This study aims to analyze the implementation of Pancasila education, the Indonesian language, and Nusantara culture as efforts to strengthen national identity among Indonesian children under the auspices of the Indonesian School in Kuala Lumpur (SIKL), Malaysia. The study employed a qualitative approach using a case study design. Data were collected through participatory observation, semi-structured interviews, and documentation during the program’s implementation from June 2 to 29, 2026, and were subsequently analyzed using the Miles, Huberman, and Saldaña interactive model through the stages of data condensation, data presentation, and drawing conclusions. The results of the study indicate that the program received a positive response from participants, as reflected in increased participation during activities, greater confidence in using the Indonesian language, and enthusiasm for participating in activities that introduced the values of Pancasila and the culture of the Nusantara. These findings suggest that the integration of Pancasila education, the Indonesian language, and Nusantara culture has the potential to serve as one approach to support efforts to strengthen national identity among Indonesian children’s communities in Malaysia. Theoretically, this study provides an overview of the implementation of education that integrates the dimensions of values, language, and culture in the International Community Service Program (KKN) as an alternative community service strategy that can be applied to the Indonesian diaspora community.

Abstract

Cimaung Village faces challenges in achieving sustainable household food self-sufficiency. Despite the existence of underutilized home garden potential and two strategic organizations, Family Welfare Empowerment (PKK) and Women Farmers Group (KWT) there is a need to strengthen the synergy, technical capacity, and program management of these entities. Household food security is crucial, particularly amidst price fluctuations and limited access. Overall, this community service initiative aims to transform underutilized home gardens into productive food sources through collaboration between the PKK and KWT, following capacity-building efforts. The activities focus on institutional strengthening specifically enhancing managerial skills, program planning, and coordination among PKK and KWT members and between the two organizations as well as addressing technical implementation issues faced by the partners, such as limited planning capacity and the absence of Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs). Technical challenges also include suboptimal land utilization and a lack of necessary facilities and infrastructure. Expected outcomes of this program include the establishment of formal SOPs agreed upon by the PKK, KWT, and Village Government covering the planning, implementation, monitoring, and reporting mechanisms for the Integrated Home Garden Agriculture (PPT) program. Additionally, the initiative aims to improve self-evaluation scores (via pre- and post-tests) regarding the PKK and KWT administrators' understanding of program management and the importance of good governance, as well as to increase the percentage of households productively utilizing their home gardens and reporting self-sufficiency in vegetable and protein supplies.
