Abstract

The rapidly growing gig economy phenomenon in the digital era has brought significant changes to the economic structure of Muslim families, particularly regarding the obligation to provide for a living, which according to Islamic jurisprudence is the husband's responsibility. The gig economy, based on flexible work, short-term contracts, and unstable income, creates new dynamics in husband-wife relations, the division of gender roles, and the concept of qiwāmah (compensation) within the household. This study aims to examine how the gig economy affects the implementation of the obligation to provide for a living and how Muslim families renegotiate the economic roles between husband and wife during the digital transformation. The study used a qualitative approach, analyzing classical and contemporary literature, socioeconomic data on gig workers, and interpreting the context using the maqāṣid al-shari'ah framework. The results show that the obligation to provide for a living remains normatively with the husband, but the reality of digital income instability encourages the emergence of collaborative patterns in meeting household needs. The gig economy also causes psychological stress for husbands who feel they have lost stability and their traditional position as primary breadwinners, while simultaneously enhancing women's economic roles through digital employment opportunities. These findings demonstrate the need to reinterpret the concepts of qiwāmah and sustenance in the context of the modern economy, and demand public policies that protect gig workers to ensure the continued well-being of Muslim families.

Abstract

Marriage is a crucial social and religious institution in Indonesia's plural society, where Islamic Sharia strongly emphasizes the importance of shared faith (aqidah) between spouses. Normatively, the Qur’an and hadiths provide strict limitations on the practice of interfaith marriage due to concerns about serious problems in aspects of worship, child education, and the integrity of the family's faith. In the context of Indonesian positive law, although Law No. 1 of 1974 states that the validity of marriage depends on respective religious laws, there was briefly a legal loophole allowing the registration of interfaith marriages, which was subsequently affirmed closed by the Supreme Court. This article examines this issue through Normative Legal Research using a philological approach to the Prophet’s hadiths such as the story of Sayyidah Zainab and the athar (narration) from Ibn Umar and linking it to the context of pluralism and positive law in Indonesia. The analysis shows that the provision in the hadith about the marriage of Sayyidah Zainab and Abu al-‘Ash was abrogated (mansukh) after the revelation of the verses Al-Baqarah 221 and Al-Ma’idah 5, and the athar of Ibn Umar affirms the prohibition of marrying women of the People of the Book, reflecting a spirit of caution in safeguarding family faith. The results of this study affirm that both Islamic Sharia and state law especially through SEMA No. 2 of 2023 are aligned in rejecting interfaith marriage. Thus, pluralism in Indonesia is interpreted as affirming peaceful coexistence without sacrificing one's religious identity, making interfaith marriage a theological, legal, and socio-cultural problem that must be avoided.

Abstract

Happiness is the primary goal of human life. Imam Al-Ghazali, a prominent Sufi scholar, explains that true happiness can only be attained through a Sufi (tasawuf) approach, namely the purification of the heart and drawing closer to Allah. This study aims to analyze the concept of happiness from Al-Ghazali’s perspective and the Sufi methods he proposes to achieve it. The research employs a literature review method with a descriptive-analytical approach to Al-Ghazali’s works. The findings indicate that true happiness is attained through controlling one’s desires, purifying the heart, and complete submission to Allah. Furthermore, the five main Sufi methods taught by Al-Ghazali—repentance (taubah), asceticism (zuhud), patience (sabr), gratitude (shukr), and love (mahabbah)—are proven to be relevant in addressing various spiritual and psychological challenges faced by modern humans. The application of these methods can help individuals manage stress, improve mental health, and foster more harmonious social relationships. Therefore, this study affirms that Imam Al-Ghazali’s Sufi approach can serve as a solution for individuals seeking true happiness amid a life full of pressure and challenges.

Abstract

This study aims to analyze the Coretax information system in the digitalization of withholding tax evidence for final income tax on lease transactions and its linkage with PSAK 73 implementation in companies. The research focuses on the use of unified electronic withholding tax certificates (e-Bupot) through the Coretax system as part of Indonesia’s tax administration digital transformation. A qualitative descriptive approach is applied, using document observation, interviews, and a literature review. The research data are derived from a lease transaction between PT ABC Indonesia and PT QYP, including the lease agreement, invoice, electronic tax invoice, billing code, and unified e-Bupot. The data are analyzed by examining the digital tax reporting workflow, the accuracy of Final Income Tax Article 4 paragraph (2) calculations, and the conformity of lease accounting treatment with PSAK 73. The results indicate that the implementation of Coretax improves efficiency, accuracy, and traceability in lease tax reporting, while also supporting data consistency between tax reporting and financial reporting. Therefore, the integration of Coretax and PSAK 73 plays an important role in strengthening transparency, accountability, and good governance in digital tax administration at the corporate level.

Abstract

The problem in the corn seed procurement project has escalated into a disaster for the Bima region. According to data from the Head of the Agricultural Office, the Bima area has a total of 202,000 hectares of forest area, of which 58,000 hectares have been converted into corn farmland. Over the past ten years, the Government of West Nusa Tenggara (NTB) has promoted a corn planting program. High corn prices, followed by the emergence of corn purchasing warehouses, as well as assistance in the form of seeds and fertilizers, have encouraged farmers to compete in planting corn. The purpose of this study is to encourage the government and farmers to pay greater attention to land management for corn cultivation, soil and water conservation, land suitability and land capability, while maintaining environmental sustainability in order to address the recurring problem of annual flash floods. This research employs the theory of the panoptic perspective, a discourse approach to communication and development by Jan Servaes, involving three theoretical concepts, as well as three scientific concepts derived from the concept of mufsid in the Qur’an, Surah Al-A’raf verse 56, along with two additional concepts. The study adopts a critical paradigm with a qualitative research design, using approaches from communication studies, social sciences, and geography. Data collection and analysis methods combine in-depth interviews, literature review, and data and source triangulation. The results of the analysis show that the government program of providing free corn seeds by the Minister of Agriculture and the massive expansion of corn cultivation have led to uncontrolled land conversion. Of the total 250,000 hectares of protected forest area in Bima, approximately 75% has been planted with corn. The conclusion of this study indicates that the government appears to have turned a blind eye to the environmental impacts generated. Therefore, the government must continue and strengthen supervision of the programs it initiates so that they do not damage the environment or erode the cultural values of the Bima region, and not merely prioritize economic profit.

Abstract

Technological developments have transformed nearly every aspect of society, including investment methods. The types of investments that frequently attract investors are digital assets in the form of cryptocurrencies, stock indices, and gold. Comparative research on these three types of investments is still limited, particularly regarding Bitcoin. Therefore, this study analyzes the asset values of these three types of investments and their predicted growth as considerations in determining promising investments. This quantitative descriptive study analyzes variables using the CAGR (Compound Annual Growth Rate) and AAGR (Average Annual Growth Rate) parameters for Bitcoin, gold, and stock indices in the United States, China, Germany, and Indonesia for the 2020–2024 period. The data is then used to predict asset growth over the next five years (2025–2029). The results show that the three types of assets studied for the 2020–2024 period exhibited growth in value with distinct profile characteristics. Bitcoin, the most volatile asset, offers the potential for significant long-term returns. Meanwhile, the assets with the best potential for growth in the 2025–2029 period, starting with the highest ranking, are Bitcoin, the S&P 500 (United States), and Gold. The predicted values based on AAGR and CAGR for Bitcoin assets in 2029 are Rp75,664,861,688 and Rp7,575,357,132, respectively. Consideration of macroeconomic factors, along with strengthening government regulations and market education, is necessary for successful economic growth. Future research on digital assets such as Ethereum or stablecoins, and analysis of the impact of crypto adoption by countries as national reserves using other parameters, are needed to strengthen references and considerations for future investment options, taking technological advancements into account.
