Abstract

Asphalt durability level has to be known early or before the asphalt is decided to be used for pavement. In principle, asphalt durability level can be known base on chemical composition. The asphalt that has more reactive component has lower durability level than the asphalt that has more unreactive component. To know asphalt durability level, the reactive component compare with the unreactive component and it is called durability index. On the other hand, SUPERPAVE has developed TFOT (Thin Film Oven Testing) and PAV (Pressure Agging Vessel) testing to simulate field condition of asphalt in pavement. By this test, asphalt durability can be predicted. This paper explains the relation of asphalt durability index base on asphalt chemical composition with asphalt durability base on TFOT and PAV testing. The results, there isn’t correlation between asphalt durability index with asphalt durability based on TOFT and PAV. Because of that, to predict durability of asphalt, it is better if use conditioning by TFOT and PAV as SHRP recommendation.

Abstract

Good asphalt derives from asphaltic base crude dil, but unfortmately such material is not much, asphalt from residual crude oil containing the mixture of asphaltic and parafine base is possibly used. Parafin changes easily in low different temperature. Therefore, the presence of parafin in asphalt will disturb the performance of asphalt mixture and predicted to be the reason of pvement deformation. To determine the effect of wax on asphalt rheology and mix proferties, 1-5% of solid and liquid wax can be used in asphalt. Asphalt quality and asphalt mixture can be done using Marshall test, dynamic stability by wheel tracking machine and resilient moduli by UMATTA. Research showed that wax decreased the properties of asphalt rheology in softening point differences penetration index, steffness moduli adhesion of asphalt to aggregates wax also decreased asphalt mix performance either by marshall test, dynamic stability and resilient moduli The effect of 4 % ot solid wax on asphalt in safe category, 2% of parafin influenced the adhesion of asphalt to aggreagates, the safe limit for liquid wax is 2 % it is suggested that the limit of parafin consent is 2% so that early pavement damage will not eusily happen.

Abstract

In order to improve efficiency on road infrastructure, it is necessary to apply various appropriate alternatives and innovation of road material technology, which has connection to the road fungction, traffic load and road location. In the meanwhile, it is often found earlier road distress before it reaches an ideal age service, especially in the areas which have high traffic volume and traffic load. There are many factor of earlier road deterioration, those are the wrong use of asphalt type, by using low penetration asphalt which lead to road cracking, while using high penetration with softening point and high temperature of road surface often causes plastic flow. One of the alternative to handle it by giving natural rubber into asphalt, to improve its phycical properties and qualities. Therefore it is beneficial to use natural rubber, not only because Indonesia is one of the biggest natural rubber production, but also improving natural rubber consumtion. In this research, the natural rubber used as additive substance are latex, sticky latex and Rubber Sir 20, the natural rubber resulted from domestic plantation, which has gond quality and relatively cheap for road. Laboratory test at Reseach and Development Centre for Road Infrastruc ture only limited to physical properties of hard asphalt penetration 60 by adding various rubber contents 1 – 5% of asphalt weight. Increasing small amount of natural rubber into asphalt penetration 60 is able to improve its physical properties by decreasing pene tration and softening point increasing. This is the fact that rubber asphalt is more resistance to high temperature, however, ductility value is not change means asphalt has high elastic properties

Abstract

Many types of aggregates are found in West Java and Banten Province and Northern Ireland where they are regarded as a valuable resource that is used to construct highways. There is a distinct difference in the specific types of aggregates present in each countries i.e. andesite in West Java and Banten Province and olivine basalt in Northern Ireland. Correlation of physical and mechanical data indicates that Northern Ireland aggregates are typically denser and stronger than the West Java and Banten aggregates.

Abstract

The life of asphalt in pavement dependson asphalt resistence used gainst aging during heating and mixing in asphalt plant and service impacted by weather, sun shine, oxidation and asphalt layer thichness. Asphalt aging occurs during heating and mixing is category zed as shout term aging, and the second to pavement service lipe. The article present the result of short term asphalt aging laboratoryresearch with specimen thickness of 3,4,7.5,9,10.5 and 12 µ using RTFO (Rolling thin Film Oven) describing asphalt aging and hardening after asphalt taken out of asphalt mixing plant. Far long term aging, pressure, aging vessel (PAV) was used to take simulation test. This method can be applied to predict asphalt life in pavement (asphalt resistance against hearing and oxidation) Result from research can be used to predict of asphalt life in pavement using the following mathematical model : ([(Pen Pav-20) + 1] x 5 years)/((Pen RTFO-Pen PAV)) Based on aging test using Pressure Aging Vessel, 5 years of asphalt life in pavement can determine the pavement life in given asphalt layer thickness in aggre gate or asphalt layer thickness in aggregate can be calculated.

Abstract

Fords are frequently regarded as temporary crossings as it is expected that they will be replaced by permanent bridging in the near future. However, a properly constructed ford will be more effective than a poorly built bridge due to lack of funding. The main criterion for ford design is the vertical alignment to meet the required safety and comfort in vehicle riding quality. Fords are most suitable for wide rivers with short flooding periods. This paper describes the principals for design and construction of gabion and concrete ford types. The case study evaluation of an actual ford construction compared to the costs of a semi-permanent Bailey bridge and cable-stayed foot-bridge, reveals that the gabion ford is the most economical and efficient solution. Key words : ford/weir/dip, vertical alignment, gabion, gabion ford, concrete ford

Abstract

The Exclusive Stopping Space for Motorcycles is defined as facilities for motorcycle to stop for waiting at signalized intersection as long as red traffic light period. The RHK's has been tested in an arterial road to support the movement of the motorcycle at the signalized intersection. This paper aims to study the influence of the RHKs to reduce traffic conflict, particularly the type and intensity of conflict and also the severity of conflict between motorcycles with another motor vehicle. To test the affectivity of RHKs to reduce conflict, the traffic conflict observations were made with video cameras during the morning and afternoon peak hours, before and after installing the RHKs, and the analyses were carried out in the laboratory. A total of 62 cycles and 41 cycles in the morning and afternoon peak hour with total of 12214 motorcycles and 8873 motorcycles (before and after RHKs installed) were analyzed. The throughput of the intersection increased both in the morning and afternoon peak hours by respectively 11.92% and 12.31%. The conflict patterns changed significantly, but the conflict rate decreased from 133,39 conflict/1000 pcu's to 24,68 conflict/1000 pcu's on the morning peak hour and from 111,10 conflict/1000 pcu's to 24,10 conflict/1000 pcu's on the afternoon peak hour. The conflict severity also decreased from 1.83 tp 1.43 on the morning peak hour and 1.86 to 1.38 on the afternoon peak hour. Abstract

Seismic hazard map in Indonesian bedrock was part of the Indonesian standart descrebing seisic hazard for Indonesia territory and used as one of significant load in structure design. Recent earthquake with big intensity surely can effect the seismic hazard in Indonesia. Therefore, seismic hazard map in Sumatera, Java-Sumba and Kalimantan was developed as part of seismic hazard analysis in Indonesia using the latest data, 3D seismic source model and PSHA-07-USGS software and publicized in this paper. The seismic hazard analysis was refer to Unified Building Code 97 and represnt the 475 year return period seismic hazard map in Sumatera, Java-Sumba and Kalimantan. The result showed that maximum PGA for Sumatera ranges between 0.02-0.65g, Java-Sumba 0.02-0.65g and Kalimantan 0.005-0.2g. All result showed a larger value than seismic hazard map in the than Indonesian Standard (SNI 03-1726-2002). Comparison with the other studies showed a comparative result only in Sumatera, while in Java-Suma and Kalimantan shown a disagree result. Some factors can affect the result, such as seismic data, seismic source model and attenuation function selection. Abstract

Indonesia cities always face transportation problem. The movement in the urban road network needs transportation means, services and infrastructures. Therefore, trip assignment pattrn of urban road network needs to be researched. There are several Trip Assignment Methods which can be used to calculate the traffic volume on each modeled roads. In this paper, two methods of traffic assignments are used, i.e.. All or Nothing and Equilibrium. To find the best method, the predicted traffic flow produced by each model was compared to the real traffic flow collected by traffic counting survey. Traffic flow from 11 links were taken for comparison. These cover the movements on arterial, collector, and local roads. The result showed that equilibrium method gave the best result for the rural network at Kota Cimahi (such as Jl.Ciwaruga-Jl Cibabat, Jl Kol. Masturi-Lembang, Jl. Soreang-Nanjung). Keywords: traffic flow, road network, assignment all or-nothing, equilibrium
