Abstract

Multi-channel anaysis of surface wave is a non-destructive seismic test that measures shear wave velocities of soil. This in situ test is a simpler, faster, effiecient, and low cost method comared to other previous seismic method that only uses two receivers. The method is applied in this study uses 24 vertical receivers or geophones of 4.5 Hz to record the propagation of surface waves. Furthermore, the seismic data records are transformed to contruct the phase velocity dispersion curves. As a result, the shear wave velocity (Vs) profile is produced from the inversion process that observes the changes of phase velocity with frequency. Comparison between Multi Channel Analysis of Surface Wave and Standard Penetration Test result is also performed in order to evaluate the reliable and approproateness of Multi-channel Analysis of Surface Wave method. In general, the result show taht shear wave velicities obtained from Multi-channel Analysis of Surface Wave method yield higher values from shear wave velocities from Standard Penetration Test. The deviation of shear wave velocities obtained from this method is less than 20%. The values of shear wave velocities are in allowable range and are relatively in good agreement with Standard Penetration Test result. Keywords : shear wave velocity, Multi Channel Analysis of Surface Wve, non-destructive seismic test soil profile, surface wave

Abstract

Cold recycling is one of technology alternative which can be prefend in selecting the strategy alternative for road rehabilitation project. Learning about the development technology. we also learn about the weaknesses of it. The pavement assessment condition, which sustain heavy traffic laod in the road trial, has been identified. In order to evaluate the performance of recycling technology, laboratory testing for material properties, mixture as well as field observation have been conducted. The evaluatiins consist of material properties, mixture, construction and pavement performance since the opening traffic until the age of construction in approximately 2 years. The result of laboratory test shows that the mixture strength criteria meet the specification, whereas the field assessment based on functional condition and from structural pavement indicates that pavement performance decreases, this shown by occuring rutting in the some parts of the wheel track. Based from this result, it is predicted that there is a correlation between material, mixture and construction method and pavement service life. The construction method should be developed in the future to minimize early deterioration. This paper describes about the evaluation result for recycling technology with binder material of foam bitumen which have been used in road link with heavy traffic load Jatibarang - Palimanan, Panturan, West Java. Key word : cold mix, recycling, foam bitumen, RFB (Recycling by Foam Bitumen) , pavement performance.

Abstract

RDS (Roadworks Design System) is a method to Design overlay flexible pavement and currently used by the Design and Supervison of Road and Bridge Construction (P2JJ). The method adoptic the design method which was firstly developed by DR Ray Millard. 1983 and DR Paterson. 1985. In recent years, many methods have been developed, such as AUSTROADS, 1992, Asphalt Institute MS-17, 2000 and Pusat Litbang Jalan dan Jembatan in 2005 also has released a guide to the structural design of road pavement based on deflection, Pd T-05-2005-B, 2005. From some methods mentioned above, it was found that a significant difference in the result of the overlay thickness designed. Some factors influencing are deferences in the traffic loading calculation, method in abtaining a represenative deflection (grouping an uniform deflection) and environmental factors. Principally, overlay thickness should meet two fatique criteria i.e. permanent deformation and fatique performance. Both criteria should be taken into account in calculating overlay thickness as shown in Austroads design procedure. Key words : Significant differences, Traffic volume, Deflection uniformity, Environmental factors.

Abstract

One of the analytical overlay thickness design methods for flexible pavement structures is the AASHTO'93 standard by employing pavement modult obtained from back calculation process in deflection bowl data. Yet the 2-layered system structure model used in general may result in a theoretical deflection bowl that does not closely match the target deflection bowl data. Croney (1977) suggested to model pavement structure at least as a 3-layered system structure for effective application of analytical design methods. This paper outhnes a modified AASHTO'93 method for analyzing pavement modult of 3-layered system structures resulting from program BackCalc in an overlay design process and specifcally investigates the effects of daily variation in pavement temperature and variation in FWD deflection survey load on pavement modult and on overlay thickness design. Keywords : Overlay Thickness Design, Analytical Method, Pavement Modulus, Back Calculation Process.

Abstract

The damage of asphalt pavement occurs in national road between Kupang adn Atambua in Timor Island is East Nusa Tenggara usually identified by longitudinal cracks on side of road pavement. The cracks were caused by shrinkage and swelling of subgrade of "Bobonaro Clay" which has expansive characteristic. One methods from several possibilities to overcome the swell and shrinkage from happening, is to maintain the m.c. as constant as possible. The technology applied here is by the used of moisture barrier namely geomembran. This method was chosen to overcome the crack problem in Sta.214-217 between Maubesi - Nesam considering that the function for public service of the road should be kept functioning etc. After two years monotoring, no cracks detected. Keywords : expansive soils, moisture barrier, geomembrane.

Abstract

Vegetation in roadway environment consists in general of trees, shrubs and bushes. Bushes are the vegetation type with lowest posture compared to trees and shrubs. On the green path of the roadway environment, vegetation can be grown along the side walk or roadway shoulder, in general with tress. However, by using pot type vegetation, shrubs and bushes can also be grown. The vegetation type for roadway median is according to regulations only allowed for shrubs and bushes.City parks, functioning as breathing path or city lungs can be grown with a combination all tress type of vegetation. The benefits of green open are most important in protecting the living environment all tress type of vegetation. The benefits of green open areas are most important in protecting the living environment in cities against varoius pollutions including air pollution. Bush vegetation is a vegetation type that can be combined with shrubs and trees, in reducing pollution and improving the air quality of the roadway environment. In this case study, the role of bushes is not only investigated from esthetical point of view, but mainly on the improvement of public service for road users and surrounding environment, creating benefits like comfort in environmental health. Result of studies shown that bushes are reducing NOx : (20.49 - 54.42) % and CO : (35.14 - 92.22) % Keywords : Air Pollution, Vehicle, bushes

Abstract

In general, the pavement design methods in Indonesia are adopted from pavement design methods of AASHTO or TRL, such as flexible pavement design with analysis component methods (structural number analysis). The effectiveness of design result depend upon the use of design input, completeness and accuracy of data, that is traffic data, environmental or regional factor and terminal serviceability index (Pt). This paper discusses the effect of incaccurately inputing data, which is used for the design result.Design result showed that uncorrect determination decided of regional factor, terminal serviceability index (Pt) and the use of the equivalent standart axles of Austroad formula have a significant impact on it.

Abstract

The gap in capacity of the local government in managing the village roads is somehow filled by efforts of the community to develop and construct their own road. This is a strong indicator that community participation can conctribute directly in regional economy development in particular to improve accessibilty and mobility. However such efforts seem likely to be more output oriented than outcome based oriented. In addition, these are unlikely to be sustainable. A research funded by the Directorate General of Municipality and Rural Development (TPTP), Ministry of Settlement and Regional Infrastructure (MSRI) is designated to look at this matter and seeks for the best practice in managing partnership between community and govermment in road management. The study took 4 cases of village road management involving community participantion in District of Bandung, Bandung Municipality, District of Kuningan, and District of Ciamis, West Java. The qualitative assessment on these showed that the disorientations and sustainability issue are generated by the failure in integrating the public participation principles within the project cycle. The weaknesses in associated with planning, design, and evaluation is required significant improvment. To improve this situation, technical advisory form local government is suggested. In addition to this, the study has also suggested the use of standard references in assessing the performance of community participation of a road project. This would function as a guide in community based road management. Two papers regarding this subject would be published in two series of this journal. The first discusses the basic principles and process of community participation in road project, wile the next one would provide information of assessment results for the 4 study cases area in Bandung, Kuningan, and Ciamis

Abstract

"Quartz" sand is a potensial resourse as a road material especially in the areas where aggregates are unavailable "Quartz" sand can be found in may areas in Indonesia, but it has not been fully exploited. Concided with the application of asphalt emulsion technology with cold mix, a research has been conducted on "Quartz" sand as subbase with asphalt emulsion mixture as binder (sand base emulsion). "Quarrtz" sand used for research was taken from many areas such as Central Kalimantan, central Sulawesi, and East Java. As comparison to the quality of "Quartz" sand mixture, the sand ex Cimalaka of West Java was used. The test result showed that the mixture, of "Quartz" sand is not significantly different from sand of Cimalaka which has a better quality. Voids is "Quartz" sand mixture were generally bigger than Cimalaka sand, this is due to the nearly uniform gradation of "Quartz" sand. Local "Quartz" sand as subbase material has been experimented in the two km road project of Kasongan - Palataran (km 50 + 000 - 52 + 000) Central Kalimantan. The addition of 1 to 2% of cement can improve the properties of sand base emulsion mixture
