Abstract

This research is motivated by the increasing phenomenon of religious fanaticism among adolescents influenced by the development of information technology, social media, and limited understanding of moderate religious values. Madrasah as an educational institution plays an important role in shaping students’ character to become tolerant, moderate, and respectful toward differences. Therefore, Islamic Education teachers have a strategic role in internalizing wasathiyah values as an effort to prevent religious fanaticism in the school environment. This study aims to identify teachers’ strategies in internalizing wasathiyah values, to examine the wasathiyah values implemented among students, and to analyze supporting and inhibiting factors in the internalization process at MTs. Al-Washliyah Ismailiyah Medan. This research employed a qualitative approach with field research design. Data collection techniques included observation, interviews, and documentation. The research subjects consisted of the headmaster, Islamic Education teachers, and students. Data analysis was conducted through data reduction, data display, and conclusion drawing. The findings reveal that teachers implement wasathiyah values through classroom learning and extracurricular activities. Teachers apply discussion methods, role modeling, habituation of tolerant attitudes, and dialogical approaches emphasizing balanced understanding of Islamic teachings. The values internalized include tolerance, justice, religious moderation, mutual respect, and anti-violence attitudes. Supporting factors include a religious school environment, leadership support from the headmaster, and collaboration among teachers in building a moderate school culture. Meanwhile, inhibiting factors involve social media influence, external social environments, and diverse religious understanding among students. In conclusion, the internalization of wasathiyah values through appropriate teaching strategies contributes to forming moderate, tolerant students and preventing religious fanaticism. This research is expected to serve as a reference for educators and educational institutions in developing Islamic education based on the principle of rahmatan lil ‘alamin and strengthening religious moderation in schools.

Abstract

ABSTRACT This study aims to analyze the forms of innovation carried out by the Al Washliyah Preaching Assembly (Majelis Dakwah Al Washliyah) in conveying the teachings of amar ma'ruf nahi munkar (enjoining good and forbidding wrong) in the Society 5.0 era, map its implementation among students at MAS Al Washliyah 12 Perbaungan, and identify the supporting and inhibiting factors of its execution. A qualitative approach with a case study design was employed. Data were gathered through non-participant observation, in-depth interviews, and documentation studies involving school administrators, Islamic Religious Education teachers, religious mentors, and students. Data trustworthiness was tested using source, technique, and time triangulation. The results indicate that the innovations of the Al Washliyah Preaching Assembly include the utilization of digital media (such as WhatsApp, YouTube, Instagram, Facebook, and AW Channel), the reinforcement of religious development programs (Maktab, Tahfidz, Ramadan Safari, MTQ), the organization of interactive study sessions, and the packaging of visual content. The implementation of these innovations at MAS Al Washliyah 12 Perbaungan is realized through the integration of technology-based learning media in classrooms, daily worship habits, rotating short lectures (kultum), and Islamic digital literacy. This structured approach has been proven to significantly enhance students' religious understanding while fostering religious character and discipline.. The primary supporting factors in implementing this innovation consist of institutional commitment from the madrasah, teachers' adaptive competence, active student participation, and the availability of supporting technological facilities. Conversely, the inhibiting factors include technological infrastructure limitations, variations in student characteristics and backgrounds, the onslaught of negative social media impacts, and program time constraints. Overall, this preaching innovation proves effective in integrating the firmness of Islamic teachings with the flexibility of digital media in the Society 5.0 era.

Abstract

ABSTRACT The learning of classical Islamic texts (kitab kuning) serves as a main pillar of the Islamic educational tradition, designed to deepen students' understanding of primary sources of Islamic law and classical religious doctrines. However, its implementation at the Madrasah Aliyah level faces pedagogical complexities when confronted with the heterogeneity of students' educational backgrounds, particularly graduates of public middle schools (SMP) who lack a foundational grounding in Arabic grammar (nahw and sharf). This study aims to describe and thoroughly analyze the dynamics of kitab kuning learning among public school graduates at MAS Alwashliyah Ismailiyah Medan, encompassing academic difficulties, learning motivation, classroom interactions, and teachers' pedagogical responses. This descriptive qualitative research employing a field case study design collected data through participatory observation, in-depth interviews, and documentation involving the madrasah principal, subject teachers, and students from public school backgrounds. Data were analyzed interactively through data reduction, data display, and conclusion drawing/verification, with data trustworthiness tested using source, technique, and time triangulation. The findings reveal that students' primary difficulties include limited understanding of i'rab (syntactic analysis), classical vocabulary (mufradat), and academic anxiety when reading unvocalized texts (teks gundul). As an adaptive response, teachers implement a combination of the bandongan and sorogan methods, gradual scaffolding guidance, and cooperative learning approaches. Reconciling this ability gap has been shown to sustainably enhance students' motivation and turath (classical heritage) literacy skills within a supportive madrasah environment.
