Abstract

This study aims to describe the semantic relationships between hyponymy, polysemy, and redundancy found in the online news text of Kompas.com entitled “Food Fortification, an Effective Strategy for Achieving Superior Human Resources and National Nutritional Security” published in the November 2025 edition. This study used a qualitative descriptive method, with data in the form of words, phrases, clauses, and sentences containing these semantic relationships. Data collection techniques were conducted using reading and note-taking, while data analysis used content analysis, focusing on the meaning and semantic relationships within the news text. The results show that various forms of semantic relationships enrich the lexical structure of the news, including hyponymy in the terms food and nutrition, polysemy in words with more than one meaning depending on the context, and redundancy found in the form of repeated words and phrases. Overall, the use of these semantic relationships demonstrates the linguistic function of clarifying messages, emphasizing meaning, and maintaining effective communication in online news texts.

Abstract

This study aims to analyze the versification (science of 'arudh) and moral values ??in Diwan Ibn al-Adim. The focus of this study includes identifying the types of bahar and zihaf used in the composition of the verses of the poem and the disclosure of the moral values ??contained therein. This study employs a qualitative descriptive method, combining the arudh science approach to analyze the structure of the poem's meter with the Islamic moral studies approach to interpret the moral messages of literary works. The research data sources are selected verses of poetry from Diwan Ibn al-Adim obtained through the Diwanul al-‘Arabi application. The data were analyzed through the following stages: (1) classification of the verses of the poem, (2) analysis of the wazan, taf'ilah, and bahar patterns according to the theory of science of 'arudh, and (3) interpretation of the content of moral values ??contained in the text. The results of the study show that Diwan Ibn al-'Adim is dominated by the use of bahar Basith, Thawîl, and Kamil with variations of zihaf such as khaban, qabdh, and idhmar. From a moral perspective, various values are found, including tawadhu, sabar, jujur, iffah, wara', hikmah, zuhud, generosity, responsibility, and piety. In addition, this work also contains moral messages that cover human relations with Allah SWT, fellow humans, and the social environment. This study concludes that Diwan Ibn al-'Adim is a literary work that is not only aesthetically superior due to its strong poetic structure but also rich in moral education that remains relevant throughout time. These findings are expected to contribute to the development of Arabic literary studies, especially those that integrate aspects of form and value.

Abstract

This study aims to uncover the connotative meaning in the lyrics of the song "Monokrom" by Tulus through Roland Barthes' semiotic approach. This song was chosen because it presents a strong nostalgic nuance and reflection of identity, and is full of color symbolism and poetic language. The research method used is a literature study with a descriptive qualitative approach. The data in this study are in the form of words, phrases, clauses, or sentences in the lyrics of the song "Monokrom" by Tulus. The data collection technique was carried out by knowing and searching for the type of literature needed, reading and reviewing the literature, collecting and recording data, and presenting the data. The data analysis technique was carried out using content analysis techniques by analyzing the text of the song lyrics "Monokrom" by paying attention to linguistic signs such as words, phrases, and metaphors that have the potential to have connotative meanings. The results of the study show that "Monokrom" represents gratitude and appreciation for the past through black and white symbols that depict the balance between joy and sorrow. This song also displays a reflection of self-identity, where past experiences play an important role in shaping emotional and spiritual maturity. Through the use of metaphors, color symbols, and a gentle style of language, Tulus successfully conveys a universal message about the appreciation of memories and the importance of social relationships in building human identity. This research confirms that Barthes's semiotics is effective in reading connotative meaning in musical works because it can reveal the relationship between language, culture, and emotional experience.

Abstract

PThis study investigates how halal values and images are represented on social media, particularly through culinary reviews on the TikTok platform. In the context of urban Muslim communities, the halal label serves not only as a marker of adherence to religious teachings but also as a representation of evolving culture and identity. Through a semiotic analysis of Ferdinand de Saussure, this study reveals how visual and narrative symbols are used by content creators to construct the meaning of halal in the digital space. The research findings indicate that halal imagery on TikTok does not always refer to official certification, but rather to social construction and perceptions of trust formed through digital narratives. This phenomenon reflects the commodification of halal, where religious values are reproduced as communication and marketing strategies within the context of digital capitalism.

Abstract

In the digital era, streaming platforms have reshaped how students engage with English learning beyond the classroom by providing authentic and easily accessible input. They offer informal learning spaces that foster autonomy and continuous language exposure. This study explores the types of streaming platforms students use, how they practice listening through them, and the reasons behind their preferences. The researchers conducted a qualitative descriptive study involving 50 English major students who completed an online questionnaire and 10 students who participated in semi-structured interviews at a public university in Indonesia. The results reveal that students primarily rely on YouTube, Netflix, and Spotify, while Disney+ and Amazon Prime are less preferred due to subscription barriers. Participants practiced listening in different ways watching English films or series with or without subtitles, replaying specific scenes, listening to music and podcasts while noting new vocabulary, and reflecting on their comprehension. Their reasons for platform choice also varied: YouTube was valued for free access and flexibility, Netflix for authentic dialogue and cultural exposure, and Spotify for convenience during multitasking. These findings suggest that streaming platforms play a dynamic role not only as learning tools but as spaces where students independently regulate strategies, sustain motivation, and build listening proficiency in meaningful and personalized ways.

Abstract

This research examines the form, function and meaning of ritual language in the Toba Batak community in Toba Samosir Regency through an anthropolinguistic approach. Ritual language is an important tool in traditional ceremonies which not only functions as a means of communication, but also as a medium for transmitting cultural values, social systems and ethnic identity. This research uses descriptive qualitative methods with participatory observation techniques, and analysis of traditional speech texts such as umpasa, mangupa prayers, and kinship greetings. The results of the research show that the Toba Batak ritual language reflects the dalihan natolu social system which emphasizes balanced social relations, respect for ancestors and clan solidarity. Traditional speeches such as umpasa contain moral values such as honesty, sincerity, hard work and mutual cooperation. Even though modernization has brought changes in the context of ritual language use, the Toba Batak community still maintains core values through adapting forms and media. Thus, the Toba Batak traditional language functions as a living and dynamic cultural structure, representing a close relationship between language, culture and ethnic identity.
