Abstract

One of the most important goals in learning mathematics is to understand the concept. In addition, understanding the concept is the foundation when learning mathematics. In fact, the competence of students in class VII SMPN 2 Pulau Punjung in understanding the concept is still lacking. The application of the discovery learning model is one of the strategies that can increase understanding of mathematical concepts. The research was conducted to find out students' understanding of mathematical concepts taught with superior discovery learning models compared to those taught with direct learning models for class VII SMPN 2 Pulau Punjung. This research is a quasi-experimental study using a non-equivalent posttest only control group design. All students in class VII SMPN 2 Pulau Punjung were used as the research population, and the experimental group was class VII.A and the control group was class VII.C. The instrument applied to the research is the final test of understanding the concept in the form of essay questions. From the data analyzed and discussed, it can be concluded that the understanding of the concepts learned through discovery learning is superior to learning in Class VII SMPN 2 Pulau Punjung with the direct learning model. Keywords–Discovery learning, Concept Understanding, Direct Learning, Mathematic

Abstract

The result of preliminary studies suggest that students’ mathematical reasoning abilities on topic number pattern was low. This is due to the teaching of teachersthat are too focused on textbooks. While the presentation of material number pattern on textbook has not been optimal and less to contribute to the development of student learning, especially on students’ mathematical reasoning abilities. Therefore, in designing instructional design of number pattern topic based on realistic mathematics education is implemented in student worksheet. This research that was Gravemeijer & Cobb development model, which  consisted of three phases, there were the preparing experiment, design experiment and retrospective experiment. The subject were 8th grade students of 1 Padang Junior High School. Data analysis techniques used are descriptive statistics and descriptive techniques, which describe the validity, practicality and effectiveness of instructional design through student worksheet based on RME. Instrument data collection used : final test, observation sheets, interview sheets and questionnaires. The result of the research shows that the instructional design of number pattern topic with RME approach through student worksheet have been valid, practical and effective. It is to be valid because it has fulfilled the characteristics of the validity of both content and construct contents. It is said to be practical because the product is easy to use and understand, the specified time allocation is very efficient, very interesting and contributes to the number pattern learning. Furthermore it is said to be effective because the use of this design has a potential impact on students’ reasoning abilities on the topic of number pattern.Keywords:Instructional Design, Number Pattern, RME, Learning Trajectory, Design Research

Abstract

The purpose of this study was to develop a learning tool in the form of a valid and practical E-Module on integer material for grade VII junior high school students. This research is a development research by modifying the Plomp development model which consists of three stages, namely preliminary research (Preliminary Research), making a prototype (Prototyping Stage), and the assessment phase (Assessment Phase).The preliminary research consists of needs analysis, curriculum analysis, concept analysis and student analysis. Making prototypes consisted of prototype 1, prototype 2, and prototype 3. In prototype 1, a self-evaluation was carried out, prototype 2 was conducted by an expert review by mathematics education experts to see the validity of the E-Module developed. While prototype 3 was carried out one to one evaluation by trying out the validated E-Module to three students with different learning abilities. The practicality of the E-Module is seen through the results of a practicality questionnaire on students' responses after one to one evaluation. Based on the results of the validity data analysis, it shows that the E-Module from the aspects of Self Instructional, Learning Materials, Stand Alone, User friendly, Display, Electronic Media, Multimedia Utilization, Software Use, E-Module Design, and Adaptive have a validity level of 84% with very categories. valid. The E-Module also fulfills practical criteria from the results of questionnaires and interviews. Based on these results, it can be concluded that the E-Module on integer material for grade VII junior high school students can be declared valid and practical.Keywords: Mathematics E-Module, Integer, Class VII Junior High School

Abstract

- The ability to communicate mathematical concepts effectively is an important part of mastering mathematical concepts. Unfortunately, the mathematical communication skills of students in grade IX of SMPN 22 Padang are still lacking. To overcome this obstacle, we used the Think Pair Square learning model. A quasi-experimental design, consisting of a non-equivalent control group used only after the exam, was used in this study. A p-value of 0.002 was shown in the t-test analysis, which is smaller than the significance level of 0.05. The results of grade IX students at SMPN 22 Padang who used the TPSQ learning model to improve their mathematical communication skills were better than students who used the direct learning model.Keywords–Mathematical Communication Skills, Think Pair Square, Direct Learning

Abstract

his study aims to determine the understanding of mathematical concepts of students who learn with cooperative learning models of the NHT type is better than understanding the mathematical concepts of students who learn by direct learning in class VIII SMP Negeri 25 Padang. This type of research is a quasi-experimental design with Static Group Design. The research sample is class VIII.3 as the experimental class and class VIII.2 as the control class. The instrument used was the final test of concept understanding in the form of essay questions. Data analysis used t-test. Based on the analysis of the final test results of understanding students' mathematical concepts, p-value is obtained = 0.019, because p-value <0.05 then H0 is rejected. This shows that the ability to understand mathematical concepts of students who learn with cooperative learning models of the NHT type is better than the ability to understand mathematical concepts of students who learn by direct learning.Keywords : Understanding Mathematical Concepts, Numbered Heads Together, Direct Learning..

Abstract

The ability to solve mathematical problems is needed as a reference in solving a problem related to everyday life and also to get used to managing different problems. However, when viewed based on phenomena in the world of education, this problem-solving ability is still not paid enough attention to by students and schools. The results of the initial test conducted in class XI at SMK Negeri 3 Payakumbuh, it was stated that there were still many who had not been able to solve the problem properly and correctly. The countermeasures carried out to overcome this problem are by applying the ARCS learning model. The research intends to find out whether it is possible for disciples who are taught with the ARCS learning model to have better problem-solving skills than disciples who are taught with the Problem Based Learning model in class XI at SMK Negeri 3 Payakumbuh. This research is a quasi-experimental typewith The Static Group Comparison Design. The population is class XI students of SMK Negeri 3 Payakumbuh. The test instrument for problem solving abilities is in the form of an essay. Based on data processing using the t-test, a P-value = 0.000 is obtained that means reject H0. So that the results were obtained that students who implemented the ARCS model had better problem solving abilities than students who implemented the Problem Based Learning model in class XI SMK Negeri 3 Payakumbuh.Keywords- ARCS, Problem solving, Mathematic

Abstract

Abstract Under standing of mathematical concept is basic ability that students have to posses,but in fact understanding of mathematical concept in SMPN 2 Padang grade VII is still low, it needs to be improved. In learning, teachers incline use teacher center learning. One attempt to overcome this problem is applied a learning model that can facilitate students to understanding the material and build their own knowledge. Learning model that can be applied is Cooperative Learning type Formulate Share Listen Create (FSLC). Type of the research is quasi experiment with Static Group Design. The purpose of this research is to describe the impact of this model for understanding of mathematical concept. Based on data analysis by using t test P-value = 0,019< ???? = 0,05, it can be conclude that under standing of mathematical concepts of students which study with cooperative type FSLC is better than conventional learning. Keywords—cooperative learning, formulate share listen create, comprehension of mathematical concept, conventional learning.

Abstract

Math matters in many spheres of life. Mathematical learning emphasizes problem-solving. Students must master problem-solving skills, which are vital in math and other professions. The mathematical problem-solving skill of kids should be mastered is not reality. Students still make numerous problem-solving blunders, thus they must be analyzed. This research employs the Newman Error method to identify student errors and their causes. Newman's technique categorizes mistakes as reading, comprehension, transformation, process skills, and final response writing. The research is descriptive qualitative. Six students from class IX SMP Negeri 15 Padang in 2023/2024 were interviewed for this research. Test results, interviews, data presentation, and verification. The proportion of pupils' reading and comprehending faults was 83.0%, which was quite high. Transformation error of 87.5% is pretty high. Very high process skill mistake of 95.5%.
