Abstract

This study aims to describe the mistake of students in solving mathematical questions in social arithmetic material based on the taxonomy of SOLO. The errors studied were based on the types of Subanji and Mulyoto errors  which included conceptual errors, errors using data, errors in interpretation of language, technical errors, and errors in conclusions. Preparation of test questions and response levels of students based on the level of the problem on the SOLO taxonomy. This research is a descriptive study with ten research subjects in class VII.1 of SMPN 22 Padang. Details of subject taking were three subjects with high mathematical abilities, four subjects with moderate mathematical abilities, and three subjects with low mathematical abilities. The results obtained by the subject tend to do (a) conceptual errors including errors in using formulas, errors in understanding the intentions of statements in the questions, errors in determining the right steps to solve the problem, (b) errors using data include not using data should be used in solving problems, (c) errors in interpretation of language include errors in writing information on the question, (d) technical errors involving calculation errors, (e) errors in conclusions include concluding an invalid statement with logical reasoning. The causes of these errors are not skilled in using formulas, not through, and habits of students who do not repeat the lesson.Keywords - Error Analysis, Subanji and Mulyoto Error Types, SOLO Taxonomy

Abstract

Mathematics learning has several objectives that must be achieved. One of them is the ability to solve mathematical problems. However, in reality, the students' mathematical problem solving skills at SMPN 20 Padang are still low. Therefore, to improve students' mathematical problem solving abilities, research was carried out by applying the Search, Solve, Create, and Share (SSCS) learning model. This type of research is quasi-experimental and the research design is a randomized control group only design. Based on the results of the final test data analysis, it is concluded that the mathematical problem-solving abilities of students who learn using the Search, Solve, Create, and Share model are better than the mathematical problem solving abilities of students whose learning uses the direct learning model. Keywords — SSCS, mathematical problem solving skills

Abstract

The main focus is on the importance of good academic performance for students, especially as it relates to learning mathematics at SMP Negeri 6 Padang. Currently, IX students of this school continue to have low math learning results. To solve this problem, this study applies the discovery learning model as an alternative to improve student learning outcomes. This study is quantitative using a quasi-experimental method and a non-equivalent post-test-only control group design. Data analysis shows that students learning with the discovery learning model show better learning outcomes than students using the direct learning model.Keywords– Learning outcomes, Discovery Learning,Direct Learning

Abstract

The ability of understanding mathematical concepts has a very important role needed in an effort to achieve the goals of mathematics learning. The ability to understand the concept should be developed through the learning process. However, mathematics learning that occurred in class VIII of SMP 2 Pariaman has not yet involved students optimally in the process of rediscovering the concept so that the ability of understanding mathematical concepts of students has not been well developed. In addition, the participation or active role of students in learning also seems to be lacking. This has an impact on the low ability to understand  the mathematical concepts of students. An alternative that can be used as a solution to overcome the above problems is learning using the cooperative learning model type TSTS. This type of research is a quasi-experimental design with Static Group Design. The research hypothesis is carried out using the t-test. Based on the results of data analysis, it was concluded that the ability of understand mathematical concepts of students who learn with the cooperative learning model type TSTS is better than ability of understand mathematical concepts of students who learn with conventional learning.

Abstract

Mathematical reasoning ability is very important for students to be able to make decisions or solution in solving various problems in the mathematical context. The purpose of the study was to describe the effect of the Discovery Learning model on students mathematical reasoning abilities better than students mathematical reasoning of students who learn by using direct learning and describe the development of mathematical reasoning abilities of student who study with the Discovery Learning model. The type of research is quasy-experiment and descriptive with a Randomized Control Group Only Design. The research instrument is a test of mathematical reasoning abilities. From the data analysis it was concluded that students' mathematical reasoning abilities that applied the Discovery Learning model were better than the students' mathematical reasoning abilities who applied direct learning in class VIII SMPN 3 Ranah Pesisir. there was an increase in students' mathematical reasoning abilities while learning to apply the Discovery Learning model. Abstract

Due to the insufficient problem-solving skills of VII pupils, this study was conducted. To counteract this, research was conducted to enhance students' problem-solving abilities through the Contextual Teaching and Learning (CTL) approach. The purpose of the study is to determine and describe the mathematical problem-solving ability of seventh-grade students at SMP Negeri 25 Padang whose learning with the CTL approach is superior to their mathematical problem-solving ability with the traditional learning model. And to understand and describe the development of mathematical problem-solving skills in students using the CTL method. This investigation utilised a quasi-experimental design. The design employed is a "Pretest-Posttest Control Group Design" with a random sampling strategy. Using the normality test, the homogeneity test, and the hypothesis test, mathematical problem-solving ability data was analysed. Based on the hypothesis test, P = 0.015 was obtained. Since P = 0.05, the null hypothesis H0 should be rejected. This suggests that students whose education utilises the CTL approach are more adept at solving mathematical problems. Abstract

Critical thinking ability is a competency that must be trained in students because critical thinking skills are needed to compete in the 21st century. In the learning process critical thinking skills have not been implemented properly. The purpose of this study was to describe describing the level of mathematical critical thinking skills of students of class XI MIPA 5 Padang 2 High School. Data retrieval is done by observing, giving a test of mathematical critical thinking skills, then conducting interviews based on the results of tests of critical thinking skills in each group of high, medium, and low. Based on the results of data analysis, it was concluded that studentscritical thinking skills were still relatively low. Based on the results of the analysis of the data obtained it can be concluded that the students' critical thinking skills are still relatively low. There are still many students who have not been able to fulfill well every indicator of critical thinking skills that has been tested, namely interpretation, analysis, evaluation and interpretation. This is because the learning process is still dominated by the teacher. The learning process that takes place is not all material that uses the ability to think critically in solving problems. Abstract

This study aims to develop learning media in the form of interactive multimedia learning based on discovery learning on valid and practical number pattern material. This type of research is a design research using the Plomp development model which is grouped into the preliminary research stage, the prototyping stage, and the assessment stage. The preliminary research phase includes needs analysis, student analysis, curriculum analysis, and material analysis. The prototyping stage is the stage of developing games-based multimedia learning on number pattern material. The prototype must go through evaluation with several stages in the form of self-evaluation and "expert" review to get a valid prototype. The results showed that multimedia learning based on discovery learning on number pattern material had a validity level of 91.27% with a very valid category and the level of practicality with a very practical category was 94.63% by students and 85% by educators.Keywords– Interactive Learning Multimedia, discovery learning, Number Pattern

Abstract

Understanding mathematical concept is one of expected of learning mathematics in junior high school. According to result of observations  in SMPN 1 Harau, understanding mathematical consept in class VIII is still can be improve. One of the causes of the low understanding mathematical concept by students is that the learning model applied does not actively involve students to build knowledge. Moreover, learning from home requires students to be active in developing concept independently existing learning resources. One of the models that can be applied is the type of cooperatife learning model type Team Assisted Individualization. Beside that, during learning with that model, videos are also used as learning material . Abstract

This research aimed to evaluate the comparison between two instructional models, namely the Connecting, Organizing, Reflecting, and Extending (CORE) model and direct instruction, on the mathematical concept comprehension of 12th-grade students at SMA Negeri 2 Payakumbuh. The research method employed a quasi-experimental approach with two sample groups, one as the experimental group implementing the CORE model, and the other as the control group receiving direct instruction. The results of the study indicated that students who underwent the CORE model demonstrated a better understanding of mathematical concepts compared to those who received direct instruction. These findings are relevant for enhancing the quality of mathematics education at the high school level and illustrate that interactive learning approaches like CORE can improve understanding of mathematical concept, particularly when adapted to students' needs.Keywords—Understanding of mathematical concepts, CORE, Direct learning
