Abstract

The purpose of this research is to develop student worksheets on the rule of sine and cosine that is valid, practical and effective using the discovery learning model. This is because the student worksheets used in the learning process are still not able to facilitates students to be actively involved in discovering a concept or principle to construct their knowledge. The type of this research is Research and Development (R&D). The research data from the questionnaire were analyzed by using descriptive statistics, and the data from observation and interviews were analyzed by describtive techniques. This research used the Plomp model which consists of three phases, namely preliminary research, development or prototyping phase, and assessment phase. The results of this research are (1) the student worksheets developed has a very valid category with a validity value of 89,29%, (2) the student worksheets developed has a very practical category with a practicality value of 88,54%, (3) the student worksheet developed is effective for use with gain score value of 0,695 which is in the medium category. Based on the research results, it can be concluded that the developed student worksheets can be applied ini mathematics learning in schools.  Keywords – Student Worksheet, Discovery Learning, The Rule of Sine and Cosine, Plomp

Abstract

Understanding of mathematical concepts is one of the purpose in mathematics learning which is expected to be mastered by every student. But in reality, understanding of mathematical concept of students in class IX of SMPN 19 Padang is still low. One effort can be made to improve understanding mathematical concepts of students by applying Numbered Heads Together of Cooperative Learning. This learning model helps students to develop their Understanding of mathematical concepts The type of research is a quasi-experimental design with Static Group Design. The final test result were analyzed by using the t-test. Based on the results of data analysis, it was concluded that understanding of mathematical concepts of students who learn with the cooperative learning model of Numbered Heads Together type are better than the understanding of mathematical concepts of students who learn by conventional learning. Keywords–Understanding of Mathematical Concepts, Numberes Heads Together, Conventional Learning

Abstract

Learners need math communication skills. Students of SMP Negeri 28 Padang class VIII lack mathematical communication abilities. Think Pair Share was selected for learning. This research examined whether SMP Negeri 28 Padang grade VIII students who used the Think Pair Share model had stronger mathematics communication abilities than those who used the standard approach. As a fake experiment, this study employs Static Group Design. Simple Random Sampling was utilised. Class VIII.8 was the experimental class and VIII.7 the control class from the draw. The research tool assesses mathematical communication. The data analysis P-value was 0.001. Since P-value < α = 0.05, H0 is rejected. Compare to the standard model, Think Pair Share students have better mathematical communication abilities.Keywords– Think Pair Share, Mathematical Communication Skills, Conventional Learning

Abstract

Understanding mathematical concepts is a very important part in learning mathematics because it is one of the goals of learning mathematics that must be achieved by students. But in fact, the understanding of mathematical concepts of students in class XI MIPA SMAN 1 Pasaman is still low. One of the efforts that can be done to improve students' understanding of mathematical concepts is by applying a generative learning model. This research aims to describe the understanding of mathematical concepts of students who apply the generative learning model in class XI MIPA SMAN 1 Pasaman. This type of research is Pre-experiment with One Shot Case Study design. The subjects of this study were students of class XI MIPA SMAN 1 Pasaman for the academic year 2021/2022 with class XI MIPA 2 Shift A as the subject class. The research instrument is a test of understanding mathematical concepts in the form of essay questions which are analyzed by looking for the class average of the subject then qualified. Based on data analysis, it was found that the average result of the students' mathematical concept understanding test in the subject class was 23.50. After the average is qualified, it is obtained that the understanding of the mathematical concepts of students who learn by applying the generative learning model is in the high category. Keywords– understandings of mathematics concepts, Generative Learning Model, Pra-Experiment

Abstract

Mathematical communication skills are important for every student in mathematics learning. However, based on the facts in the field, the communication skills of students grade VIII SMPN 16 Padang is still low. Based on the observations it can be concluded that the implementation of learning is centered on the teacher, so students tend to be passive in learning. One effort that can be done is to implement an active learning model that gives students the opportunity to communicate their ideas both verbally and in writing. The learning model that can be applied is Cooperative Learning type Formulate Share Listen Create (FSLC). The type of the research is quasi experiment and use Static Group Design. Based on the result of data analysis by using t test P-value = 0,026, the conclution is mathematical communication skills of students who learn cooperative model type FSLC are better than those learning with conventional learning.Keywords– conventional learning, cooperatif learning type FSLC, Mathematical communication abilities.

Abstract

The ability to understand mathematical concepts is one of the important learning objectives to be mastered by students. However, in reality the ability to understand mathematical concepts in class VIII students of SMP Negeri 1 Tanah Putih, Rokan Hilir Regency, is still relatively low. To overcome this problem, one way that can be done is to apply the Connecting Organizing Reflecting Extending learning model. The purpose of this study was to find out whether the ability to understand mathematical concepts of students who studied with the Connecting Organizing Reflecting Extending learning model was better than those who studied with the direct learning model in class VIII SMP Negeri 1 Tanah Putih, Rokan Hilir Regency. This type of research is a quasi-experimental design with the nonequivalent posttest-only group design. The population is all students of class VIII SMP Negeri 1 Tanah Putih, Rokan Hilir Regency with a sample of class VIII.2 and VIII.3. Abstract

Critical Thinking skill is one that must be developed in mathematics lessons. However, the ability to think critically is less of a concern in learning. There is a test that is widely used to measure students' critical thinking skills, namely the Watson-Glaser Critical Thinking Appraisal (WGCTA). The research objective was to describe the level of critical thinking skills of students based on the WGCTA indicator. This type of research is a descriptive study with a qualitative approach. The research subjects were students of class IX-1 who were selected based on consideration. Instruments in the form of test questions and new interviews. The data obtained are the results of critical skills tests and interviews. The analysis techniques used include data reduction, data presentation and withdrawal. The technique to guarantee the validity of the data used is technical triangulation. Based on the results of the analysis and triangulation, it can show that students' critical thinking skills are generally in the medium category, except for the indicators analyzing argument which are in the low category.Keyword – analisis, critical thinking skills, Watson-Glaser Critical Thinking Appraisal

Abstract

Mastering mathematical problem solving is one of the goals of learning mathematics. In reality, this ability is still low. This is known from the initial ability test. The group investigation model, where students discuss and solve problems with peers, is used to overcome this low ability. Randomized Control Group Posttest Only Design was used for the Quasy-Experiment study. Sampling was done by simple random sampling. XIF.2 was the experimental sample while XIF.1 was the control. The study found that the group investigation model was better than the conventional model (P-Value = 0.010 < α = 0.05).Keywords– Mathematical Problem-solving, Group Investigation

Abstract

Mathematical reasoning ability is a capability that is very much needed in mathematics. However, in the eighth grade of the junior high school 2x11 Enam Lingkung, the students' mathematical reasoning ability in mathematicalabiity was still in low level. The Problem Based Learning (PBL) model can be used to solve this problem. This study aimed to see the differences of the student’s mathematical reasoning ability between the student who learned mathematics by using Problem Based Learning and those who learned it directly. This research is a quasy-experimental research with static group design. The sample was taken by using simple random sampling. In which VIII C class was the experimental class while VIII D class become the control class. The instrument to assess the student’s reasoning ability was a final test in essay form. The findings showed that the student’s mathematical ability who studied mathematics by using Problem Based Learning were much better comparing to the students who studied the subject directly in the eighth grade of the junior high school 2x11 Enam Lingkung.Keywords- Mathematical Reasoning Ability, Problem Based Learning
