Abstract

Adolescent girls are at increased risk of anemia due to rapid growth, hormonal changes, and regular menstrual blood loss. Anemia may result in fatigue, psychological disturbances, reduced self-esteem, and impaired social functioning, all of which can diminish quality of life. However, the extent to which anemia severity and nutritional status influence quality of life remains unclear. This cross-sectional study examined the relationship between anemia severity, nutritional status, and quality of life among adolescent girls. The sample comprised 111 girls diagnosed with anemia at a Primary Health Center, based on hemoglobin levels, selected through purposive sampling. Quality of life was assessed using the WHOQOL-BREF, which evaluates physical, psychological, social, and environmental domains. Data were analyzed using the Chi-square test. The findings indicated a significant association between anemia severity and overall quality of life (p = 0.048). In contrast, nutritional status, as measured by body mass index, was not significantly associated with either quality of life (p = 0.499) or anemia severity (p = 0.598). These results suggest that anemia severity is a key determinant of quality of life in adolescent girls, whereas nutritional status alone does not exert a substantial effect.

Abstract

Breast cancer is one of the most common cancers affecting women worldwide and remains a major public health concern. Women of reproductive age are an important group because hormonal, reproductive, metabolic, and lifestyle factors during this period may influence the risk of developing breast cancer. This study aimed to identify and summarize the risk factors associated with breast cancer among women of reproductive age based on observational studies published between 2021 and 2026. This research used a literature review approach by collecting relevant scientific articles from several databases, including PubMed, Google Scholar, ScienceDirect, and Scopus. The selected studies consisted of cross-sectional, cohort, and case-control designs. The results show that several factors are associated with an increased risk of breast cancer, including higher body mass index (BMI), elevated triglyceride-glucose levels, early menarche, late age at first pregnancy, family history of breast cancer, hormonal contraceptive use, and obesity. In contrast, higher parity, longer breastfeeding duration, and healthier dietary patterns may reduce the risk of breast cancer.

Abstract

Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease (COPD) is a progressive chronic disease associated with high global morbidity and mortality. A pharmacoepidemiological approach is essential to understand risk determinants, comorbidities, patterns, and the rational use of medications in patient populations. A literature review was conducted on 11 observational studies comprising cohort, case-control, and cross-sectional designs. The included studies evaluated COPD risk factors, comorbidities, therapeutic effectiveness, and medication use patterns. COPD is influenced by multifactorial determinants including occupational exposure, smoking behavior, and metabolic conditions such as hyperlipidemia. Comorbidities including depression, malnutrition, and cardiovascular diseases contribute to increased exacerbation rates and mortality. Triple inhalation therapy (ICS/LAMA/LABA) reduced mortality compared with dual therapy. However, inappropriate antibiotic dosing and Drug-Related Problems (DRPs) were still identified. COPD is a complex chronic disease requiring a multidimensional approach through risk factor control, comorbidity management, and optimization of evidence-based pharmacotherapy within the framework of public health pharmacy.

Abstract

Gastroesophageal Reflux Disease (GERD) is one of the most common gastrointestinal disorders and its prevalence continues to increase in many populations. Various lifestyle habits and clinical conditions are believed to contribute to the occurrence of GERD. This literature wants to summarize evidence regarding lifestyle and clinical factors associated with GERS based on findings from cross sectional studies. The review was based on the analysis of several published cross sectional studies from different countries and populations. Information related to study characteristics, participant demographics, lifestyle habits, and clinical variables associated with GERD was collected and analyzed. The results show that several lifestyle factors such as smoking, unhealthy dietary patterns, coffee or soft drink consumption, night eating habits, low physical activity, and insufficient sleep are frequently associated with a higher risk of GERD. In addition, clinical and demographic factors including older age, female sex, obesity, use of analgesic or NSAID medications, and certain psychological conditions were also reported to be related to GERD occurrence. These findings suggest that both lifestyle behaviors and clinical factors play an important role in the development of GERD.
