Jurnal Pengembangan Potensi Laboratorium merupakan media publikasi bagi pranata laboratorium Pendidikan (PLP) yang diterbitkan oleh Politeknik Negeri Jember. Jurnal ini menerima artikel ilmiah berupa hasil penelitian, survei, evaluasi, dan pengkajian ilmiah dalam bidang Pengelolaan Laboratorium yang sesuai dengan fungsi Pranata Laboratirum Pendidikan. Adapun ruang lingkup publikasi antara lain: Memodifikasi / menciptakan metode kerja (validasi). Peningkatan kemampuan instrumen/alat dalam pengujian. Pengembangan artefak/bahan acuan standar (CRM, IRM, PUP sesuai ISO 17043). Pemanfaatan bahan-bahan lokal sebagai alternatif dalam memodifikasi metode sehingga lebih efisien, efektif dan ramah lingkungan. Pengembangan metode K3 dengan pengelolaan limbah (reduce, recycle, reuse). Rancangan teknologi / membuat peralatan / bahan.

Abstract

Organic waste is a type of trash that practical operations in the Agro-Industrial Management Entrepreneurship Laboratory at PSDKU Sidoarjo produce but have yet to deal with explicitly. A method to manage organic waste from practical activities is to employ it as organic fertiliser. At PSDKU Sidoarjo, organic fertiliser manufacture is often conducted solely during practical sessions via a composter. Technicians manually assembled the laboratory-scale composters to meet the requirements of the actual job. The challenges encountered with the manual composter include the fact that the quantity of EM4/Bioactivator applied meets expectations, but the manual mixing performed by students resulted in inconsistent mixing outcomes. This research aims to transform the current manual composter in the entrepreneurship laboratory into an automatic composter capable of processing organic waste from the laboratory while establishing a spraying timer that accurately produces the requisite quantity of bioactivator (EM4) according to the research specifications. The study was conducted in the Agroindustry Management Entrepreneurship Laboratory at PSDKU Sidoarjo from May to November 2024,  financed by the PNBP of Jember State Polytechnic 2024. This study has three phases: designing an aerobic organic composter with an automated mixer and sprayer system, building the automated composter, and implementing organic waste management. The study effectively created an automated composter that disperses 125 ml of EM4 liquid for 58 seconds for every 1 kilogram of organic waste.

Abstract

An essential oil distillator consists of a distillation kettle, condenser, cooling water tank, and separating funnel. The design of this tool aims to create an essential oil distillation machine that can be used as a learning tool in practicums, research and community service. The research method used is research and development consisting of design, manufacture, testing of tool performance and testing of essential oil quality. The essential oil distillation procedure in this study is the steam method. The materials used are eucalyptus leaves and twigs, citronella leaves, and kaffir lime leaves and twigs. The performance testing of the tool carried out consists of distillation rate, essential oil yield, distillation process temperature, physical properties of materials, fuel consumption, cooling water performance, and fuel consumption efficiency. Testing of the quality of the essential oil produced consists of odor, color, refractive index, specific gravity, and substance content tests through GCMS tests. This tool was successfully made and produced eucalyptus, citronella, and kaffir lime essential oils. The yield of essential oil of citronella leaves was 0.208%, eucalyptus leaves 0.37%, and kaffir lime leaves 0.575%. Meanwhile, the test results for the specific gravity of essential oil of citronella leaves were 0.8712, eucalyptus leaves 0.9130, and kaffir lime leaves 0.8528. The test results for the refractive index of essential oil of citronella leaves were 1.475, eucalyptus leaves 1.489, and kaffir lime leaves 1.448. The distillation rate of essential oils produced was 0.00249 kg/hour (eucalyptus leaves), 0.00272 kg/hour (lemongrass leaves), and 0.00828 kg/hour (kaffir lime leaves). The average energy efficiency of the distillation equipment produced was 48.79%.

Abstract

This study aims to improve or optimize the performance of the homogenizer in homogenizing seed samples and facilitate its operational performance so that the results obtained are in accordance with the International Seed Testing Association (ISTA). The homogenizer uses a mechanical transmission that includes a belt transmission from the power source to the gearbox, while from the gearbox to the drum/container using a chain transmission that produces a more stable drum rotation and does not slip so that it can maximize the function of the homogenizer. The addition of inlet holes and exit holes facilitates the operation of the homogenizer. This tool modification increases ergonomic value and supports tool optimization. Good homogenizer conditions will provide maximum and good service in the seed quality testing stage, especially compositing/mixing seeds before analysis. So that it will support the smoothness and accuracy of testing and student practicum activities, teaching staff research, and external stakeholders.

Abstract

Materi pembelajaran praktikum mengenai Berkas Rekam Medis (BRM) di Program Studi Manajemen Informasi Kesehatan (MIK) sangat penting, terutama dalam pengisian berkas yang merupakan bagian dari unit kerja rekam medis. Laboratorium MIK di Politeknik Negeri Jember memiliki Mini Hospital yang belum dimanfaatkan sepenuhnya. Seiring perkembangan teknologi, industri kesehatan kini mengarah pada digitalisasi dokumen BRM, meskipun dokumen fisik masih dibutuhkan untuk pemeriksaan kesehatan. Untuk mendukung transisi ini, Laboratorium Mini Hospital MIK berencana mengembangkan Alat Deteksi BRM menggunakan teknologi RFID (Radio Frequency Identification). Alat ini dirancang untuk mendeteksi keberadaan BRM, baik dalam praktikum di Program Studi MIK maupun untuk penggunaan industri. Penelitian ini, sebagai tahap awal dalam peta jalan digitalisasi rekam medis, mengembangkan sistem deteksi berbasis RFID dengan metode BlackBox Testing untuk menguji aplikasi RFID untuk BRM. Hasil deteksi ini diintegrasikan dengan platform web yang memungkinkan pemantauan real-time status dan lokasi BRM. Website ini menyediakan visualisasi data, laporan, dan pemberitahuan untuk mempermudah pengelolaan dan pemantauan berkas rekam medis. Dengan adanya platform ini, manajemen BRM menjadi lebih efisien, transparan, dan dapat diakses oleh pihak terkait seperti pengelola dan pengguna lainnya.

Abstract

Moon orchids are included in the group of ornamental plants which are epiphytes, that is, they attach to other plants without harming their hosts (Apriansi et al. 2021). However, many people think that caring for this type of orchid is complicated, especially caring for it until the plant flowers. PLP at the Jember State Polytechnic Tissue Culture Laboratory is in the development stage of moon orchid breeding both in vitro and in vivo. So far, adult orchids that are ready to flower have been treated because they do not meet the growth and development needs of moon orchids, so they do not appear flowers quickly or on time, which results in less than optimal development. The aim of this research is to obtain recommendations for the fastest and best type of flowering inducer in optimizing the growth of two cultivars of the moon orchid (phalaenopsis amabilis). This research method is testing and comparing several types of flowering inducers in moon orchids (Phalaenopsis amabilis) for seed production so that they can be used as a reference for inducing flowering in the development of orchid TEFA at the Jember State Polytechnic Tissue Culture Laboratory. The parameters observed in this research were the increase in plant height, increase in the number of leaves, increase in leaf width, increase in leaf length, leaf chlorophyll content, time for the first spike to appear and time for the first flower to appear.

Abstract

Penelitian ini berfokus pada pembuatan kompor arang portabel menggunakan limbah tebu dalam bentuk briket, yang dirancang khusus untuk meningkatkan efisiensi dan mengurangi ketergantungan pada bahan bakar fosil. Kompor menggabungkan fitur-fitur seperti igniter dan mini fan untuk meningkatkan pembakaran. Penelitian ini melibatkan trial and error untuk menilai kinerja kompor dengan komponen tambahan. Penelitian ini mengumpulkan data deskriptif melalui umpan balik konsumen menggunakan model Fishbein untuk mengevaluasi sikap pengguna terhadap produk. Penelitian ini mengungkapkan bahwa kompor yang dimodifikasi secara signifikan meningkatkan kegunaan, membuatnya lebih mudah untuk menyala dan mempertahankan pembakaran yang konsisten. Penambahan blower mini meningkatkan efisiensi pembakaran, yang menghasilkan hasil memasak yang lebih baik. Produk ini ramah lingkungan, memanfaatkan bahan limbah, sehingga mengurangi polusi. Dengan menggunakan model Fishbein, penelitian menunjukkan sikap konsumen yang baik terhadap kompor yang dimodifikasi, dengan skor rata-rata 65,03 dibandingkan dengan 53,83 untuk model standar. Atribut utama yang dihargai oleh pengguna termasuk fitur produk dan harga yang kompetitif. Kompor arang yang dimodifikasi diterima dengan baik, menunjukkan potensi penerimaan yang meluas karena fitur inovatifnya, meskipun harganya lebih tinggi dari model standar.

Abstract

Electrolysis is a process where chemical reactions occur on electrodes immersed in an electrolyte, when a voltage is applied to the electrodes. This research aims to get recommendations for the best process stages using the electrolysis method in the transesterification reaction. The method used in this research is experimental with test results described using bar graphs. The results of the research using the electrolysis method for the transesterification process of non-edible oil can produce a fairly good biodiesel conversion. However, it is necessary to modify the pretreatment process on non-edible oil raw materials so that all test results can be in accordance with SNI 7182: 2015
