Abstract

Osteoarthritis (OA) is a degenerative joint disease involving cartilage, joints, ligaments, and bones, leading to pain and joint stiffness. Physiotherapy problems in left knee Osteoarthritis (Osteoarthritis Knee Sinistra) include tenderness and movement pain, muscle spasm, limited range of motion, decreased muscle strength, and reduced functional activity. This study aimed to determine the effectiveness of physiotherapy management in a case of left knee osteoarthritis using Microwave Diathermy, Transcutaneous Electrical Nerve Stimulation (TENS), and Theraband Exercise. The study was conducted at Bendan Regional Public Hospital, Pekalongan City, using a descriptive-analytic research design. The subject was a patient with left knee osteoarthritis treated with the mentioned modalities. Data collection and analysis were carried out through autoanamnesis interviews and physical examinations. The instruments used included the VAS, palpation, goniometer, Medical Research Council (MRC), and WOMAC. The results after four therapy sessions were as follows: (1) decreased tenderness pain from T1=1 to T4=0 and movement pain from T1=4 to T4=0; (2) reduced quadriceps muscle spasm from T1=1 to T4=0; (3) improved range of motion from T1=Sa 5°-5°-105° to T4=Sa 0°-0°-120° and T1=Sp 0°-0°-105° to T4=Sp 0°-0°-125°; (4) increased muscle strength of knee flexors from T1=4 to T4=5 and extensors from T1=4 to T4=5; (5) improved functional activity from T1=30 (moderate) to T4=2 (mild). In conclusion, Microwave Diathermy, TENS, and Theraband Exercise effectively reduce pain and muscle spasm, while improving joint range of motion, muscle strength, and functional activity.

Abstract

This study aims to determine the improvement in students' scientific literacy through the implementation of the SSCS learning model integrated with a summarizing strategy among Grade XII students at SMA Negeri Harekakae during the 2025/2026 academic year. A quasi-experimental research design—specifically a pretest-posttest control group design involving two classes—was employed. The sample was selected using a random sampling technique. The research instrument consisted of a 20-item multiple-choice test covering scientific literacy indicators: identifying scientific problems, interpreting data and drawing conclusions, understanding science concepts, and applying science concepts in real-life situations. The collected data were analyzed using both descriptive and inferential statistics. The results indicated that the normality test values for the experimental class's pretest and posttest were 0.004 (< 0.05) and 0.001 (< 0.05), respectively, while the homogeneity test values for the control and experimental classes' pretests were 0.106 (> 0.05) and 0.028 (< 0.05); thus, the data were neither normally distributed nor homogeneous. Consequently, the analysis proceeded using a non-parametric test, specifically the Mann-Whitney Test. Posttest results showed an average score of 7.76 for the control class and 13.05 for the experimental class, demonstrating that the SSCS learning model integrated with a summarizing strategy had an effect on improving students' scientific literacy.

Abstract

This study aimed to determine the differential impact of implementing the Search, Solve, Create, and Share (SSCS) learning model—integrated with a summarizing strategy—on the critical thinking skills of Grade XII students at SMA Negeri Harekakae, Malaka Regency, during the 2025/2026 academic year. This quasi-experimental study employed a pretest-posttest control group design. Two classes participated: an experimental class taught using the SSCS model integrated with the summarizing strategy, and a control class taught using conventional methods. The sample was selected via random sampling. The research instrument consisted of essay questions aligned with critical thinking indicators, yielding the following average posttest scores: simple explanation (14.05), basic skills (13.75), advanced explanation (10.42), strategies and techniques (9.90), and inference (11.15). The results showed that the control class achieved an average posttest score of 43.38 (an increase of 10.31), while the experimental class achieved 58.95 (an increase of 31.35). Subsequent data analysis using the non-parametric Mann-Whitney test yielded a significance value of 0.000 (<0.05); thus, it can be concluded that the SSCS learning model integrated with the summarizing strategy effectively enhances the critical thinking skills of Grade XII students at SMA Negeri Harekakae, Malaka Regency.

Abstract

Communication barriers experienced by deaf and speech-impaired individuals in Indonesia continue to limit social, educational, and employment opportunities. Existing sign language translation technologies are often expensive and complex, reducing their accessibility. This study introduces GLADIATOR (Glove for Deaf Translator), an Arduino-based smart glove that uses flex sensors to translate sign language gestures into text or speech in real time. The system was designed to be affordable, simple, and easily replicated for wider community use. Performance evaluation was conducted by testing each letter and predefined word through 30 repeated trials. The results achieved 90.7% recognition accuracy, demonstrating the reliability of the proposed system in recognizing the tested gestures. GLADIATOR offers a low-cost and effective assistive technology that can help bridge communication gaps between deaf and hearing individuals while promoting more inclusive communication.

Abstract

The increasing presence of Generation Z in the workforce has encouraged organizations to redesign performance management systems that align with the characteristics and expectations of younger employees. Among various performance management approaches, Key Performance Indicator (KPI)-based performance appraisal systems have been widely implemented to enhance organizational effectiveness through measurable performance evaluation. However, limited qualitative research has explored how Generation Z employees perceive these systems and how such perceptions influence their motivation and organizational commitment. This study aims to explore Generation Z employees' perceptions of KPI-based performance appraisal systems and to understand their implications for work motivation, individual job performance, and organizational commitment. A qualitative phenomenological approach was employed to capture employees' lived experiences and subjective interpretations regarding KPI implementation. Data were collected through semi-structured interviews and analyzed using thematic analysis. The findings indicate that transparency, fairness, and continuous feedback are essential factors shaping positive employee perceptions of KPI-based performance appraisal systems. Furthermore, employees perceive KPI systems as mechanisms that clarify organizational expectations, encourage self-development, and strengthen motivation when implemented in a supportive organizational environment. The study also reveals that developmental communication and coaching play significant roles in increasing employees' commitment to organizational objectives. The findings contribute to contemporary performance management literature by emphasizing the importance of employee-centered appraisal systems that integrate objective performance measurement with continuous feedback and career development opportunities. Practically, the study provides insights for organizations seeking to develop more adaptive and sustainable performance management practices for Generation Z employees.

Abstract

Air pollution in urban areas is an increasingly serious environmental issue driven by rising industrial and transportation activities. This study aims to analyze air pollution levels in Jakarta using key parameters such as Particulate Matter (PM2.5 and PM10), Carbon Monoxide (CO), Nitrogen Dioxide (NO₂), Sulfur Dioxide (SO₂), and Ozone (O₃). Measurements were conducted over a one-week period at monitoring sites representing industrial, commercial, and residential areas, as well as green open spaces. The methodology involved direct ambient air sampling using High Volume Air Samplers (HVAS) and impingers, followed by laboratory analysis via spectrophotometry and gravimetry. Results indicate that PM2.5 concentrations in industrial areas reached 78.4 µg/m³, exceeding the 55 µg/m³ standard set by Government Regulation No. 22 of 2021. The average Air Pollution Standard Index (ISPU) across the monitoring sites fell into the 'Unhealthy' category. Motor vehicle emissions (62.3%) and industrial activities (28.7%) were identified as the dominant sources of pollution. The study recommends strengthening public transportation systems, expanding green open spaces, and tightening industrial emission regulations as measures to mitigate urban air pollution.
