Abstract

Infrastructure user safety is a fundamental aspect of civil engineering practice that is closely related not only to technical compliance but also to engineers' moral responsibility toward society. This study aims to analyze the forms, scope, and implications of civil engineers’ moral responsibility in ensuring infrastructure user safety and to identify factors influencing the implementation of professional ethical principles in engineering decision-making. The research employed a quantitative approach using a narrative review method. Data were collected from 35 scientific articles, professional standards, and policy documents published between 2020 and 2025. A data extraction form was used to identify indicators of moral responsibility, ethical compliance, and infrastructure safety. Data analysis was conducted using descriptive quantitative techniques, including frequency, percentage, correlation, and trend analysis. The findings reveal that 88.57% of the reviewed literature identified public safety as the primary priority of civil engineers’ professional responsibility. Furthermore, 82.86% of the sources indicated that ethical violations contribute to an increased risk of infrastructure failure, while 80.00% emphasized the importance of moral responsibility in engineering decision-making. Correlation analysis demonstrated a strong positive relationship between moral responsibility and infrastructure user safety (r = 0.812; p < 0.05). The study concludes that moral responsibility is an essential component of civil engineering practice and plays a significant role in protecting infrastructure users. The findings contribute to the development of engineering ethics theory, public safety policies, and the improvement of civil engineering practices oriented toward public welfare.

Abstract

Down Syndrome is a condition of delayed physical and mental development caused by chromosomal abnormalities. These chromosomal changes cause various disorders, such as hypotonia, motor control weakness, and coordination disorders that impact children's gross motor skills, fine motor skills, language, cognitive, social, and emotional development. This study aims to determine the effectiveness of physiotherapy management using Neuro Developmental Treatment (NDT), Sensory Integration (SI), and Play Exercise (PE) modalities in children with Down Syndrome. The study used a descriptive analytical method with a Case Study design on a 10-year-old girl who underwent three therapy sessions at YPAC Prof. Dr. Soeharso Surakarta. Data were collected through hetero anamnesis with instruments for examining tone, muscle strength, balance, posture, sensory, and functional activities. The results showed an increase in muscle tone, core muscle strength, balance on PBS points Standing with Feet Together and Standing with Feet in Front, an increase in posture scores to 85 out of 100, and an increase in functional activity abilities in dimension E (walking, running, and jumping). Sensory impairments were still found in the visual, auditory, proprioceptive, and vestibular aspects. It was concluded that NDT, SI, and PE modalities were effective in improving muscle tone, strength, balance, sensory responses, and functional activity abilities in children with Down syndrome, although postural improvement did not show significant improvement.

Abstract

Genu osteoarthritis is a degenerative disease of the knee joint that commonly occurs in older adults and may cause pain, joint stiffness, limited range of motion, and impaired balance. Balance impairment in patients with genu osteoarthritis increases the risk of falls and reduces their ability to perform activities of daily living. One of the nursing interventions that can be implemented to improve patient balance is the Ankle Strategy exercise. This study aimed to describe the implementation of Ankle Strategy exercises in patients with genu osteoarthritis at TK II Putri Hijau Hospital, Medan. This study employed a descriptive case study design involving two patients with genu osteoarthritis who experienced balance impairment. The nursing care approach included comprehensive medical-surgical nursing care consisting of assessment, nursing diagnosis, planning, implementation, and evaluation. Ankle Strategy exercises were administered for three consecutive days to enhance patients' balance and mobility. The findings demonstrated an improvement in balance among both patients following the implementation of Ankle Strategy exercises. This improvement was reflected in the patients' enhanced ability to maintain body posture, improve standing stability, and increase mobility. In the first patient, the balance score improved from 14 (poor) on the first day to 20 (good) on the second day and 26 (very good) on the third day. Similarly, the second patient's balance score increased from 14 (poor) to 19 (good) and 24 (very good) over the same period. In addition, improvements were observed in lower-extremity muscle strength, body stability, mobility, and a reduction in balance-related complaints. The intervention also contributed to a decreased risk of falls. In conclusion, the implementation of Ankle Strategy exercises had a positive effect on improving balance in patients with genu osteoarthritis and may serve as an effective non-pharmacological nursing intervention to enhance patients' functional abilities

Abstract

The construction industry contributes approximately 37–39% of global carbon dioxide emissions and consumes around 36% of total final energy, making it a priority sector in the sustainable development agenda. Green technology in construction offers solutions through the use of low-carbon materials, energy efficiency, and green building certification. However, the adoption of green technology cannot be separated from ethical considerations involving the professional responsibility of engineers, social justice, certification transparency, and respect for local communities. This study employs a conceptual literature-based approach to identify and analyze relevant engineering ethics dimensions in the implementation of green technology in Indonesia's construction sector. The findings indicate that engineering ethics must serve as the primary foundation for every green technology adoption decision, rather than merely fulfilling formal regulatory requirements. This study recommends integrating an engineering ethics framework into Indonesian green construction practice standards.

Abstract

In the studies reviewed, bolted connections in steel structures generally exhibit semi-rigid behavior with a nonlinear moment-rotation response, where the majority of studies report behavior lying between the perfect pin and fully rigid conditions. The authors have not identified a review that simultaneously synthesizes rotational stiffness, bolt slip effects, and implications for SNI 1729:2020 within a single integrated framework; similar reviews in the Indonesian standards context remain scarce based on searches across Scopus, ScienceDirect, and Google Scholar. This study presents a systematic literature review following the PRISMA 2020 protocol (Page et al., 2021), examining 13 selected studies from 75 identified articles (search conducted 15–20 June 2026). The 2017–2025 timeframe was selected to capture recent developments in nonlinear analysis and FEM of bolted connections. Quality assessment using an internal scoring instrument adapted from JBI principles yielded scores ranging from 2 to 5 out of 5, reflecting realistic methodological quality variation. Qualitative synthesis reveals a consistent tendency that increasing end-plate thickness produces a significant increase in initial rotational stiffness, accompanied by a moderate-to-significant reduction in rotation capacity. Neglecting bolt slip was found to tend toward significant displacement prediction errors near ultimate capacity. Comparison of SNI 1729:2020 and Eurocode 3 identifies three aspects not yet explicitly accommodated in SNI 1729:2020, potentially addressable through Eurocode 3 component method adoption with Indonesian condition validation.

Abstract

Dengue hemorrhagic fever (DHF) remains a major public health problem in Indonesia, highlighting the need for effective and environmentally friendly vector control strategies. Botanical larvicides derived from local plants offer a promising alternative to synthetic insecticides. This study evaluated the larvicidal activity of young tarap (Artocarpus odoratissimus) fruit sap and peel extracts against mosquito larvae. Six treatment groups were used: negative control, positive control, peel filtrate, sap filtrate, peel powder, and peel sediment, with 25 larvae per group and three replicates. Larval mortality was recorded after 24 and 48 hours. The positive control caused 100% mortality at both observation times. Among the botanical treatments, peel filtrate showed 95% mortality at 24 hours and 100% at 48 hours, while peel powder and peel sediment achieved 99–100% mortality after 48 hours. Sap filtrate produced lower but substantial mortality (89% at 48 hours). These findings indicate that young tarap fruit peel exhibits strong larvicidal activity and has considerable potential for development as an eco-friendly botanical larvicide for dengue vector control.

Abstract

Urticaria is a skin condition characterized by wheals, which may be accompanied by itching, a burning sensation, or pain, and can occur together with angioedema. House dust mites (HDM) are one of the main aeroallergens capable of triggering IgE-mediated allergic skin reactions. Children living in crowded environments, such as orphanages, are at high risk of HDM exposure. This study aimed to determine the relationship between house dust mite exposure and the occurrence of urticaria and/or angioedema in children at an orphanage in Pauh District, Padang City. This was an observational analytical study with a cross-sectional approach, conducted at an orphanage in Pauh District, Padang City, and in the Parasitology Laboratory of the Faculty of Medicine, Andalas University, from March to October 2025. The sampling technique used was total sampling. Bed dust was collected using a vacuum cleaner, and interviews were conducted using an adapted UAS and ISAAC questionnaire. Chi-square was used to analyze the relationship between the two variables. The results of this study showed that all dust samples (100%) were positive for house dust mites, and identification revealed that the most common species found was Dermatophagoides sp. (57.14%), followed by Acarus sp. (32.14%), Cheyletus sp. (25%), Carpoglyphus sp. (17.86%), Glycyphagus sp. (14.29%), Thyrophagus sp. (14.29%), and Blomia tropicalis (7.14%). The average density of house dust mites was 72.85 mites/gram of dust. The prevalence of urticaria and/or angioedema in children was 25.6%. This study found no significant association between house dust mite density and the occurrence of urticaria and/or angioedema (p = 0.263). The conclusion of this study is that factors such as individual predisposition, environmental conditions, and immune sensitization status are likely to contribute to the development of urticaria and/or angioedema.
