Abstract

Unequal economic development is reflected in economic growth between regions, which gives rise to gaps in the quality of human resources. This study aims to determine the influence of Physical Special Allocation Funds and Regional Expenditures in the Education Sector on increasing Economic Growth and the Quality of Human Resources, focusing on the education sector as one of the main pillars of development. The methodology used in this research is panel data regression analysis by combining cross-section data from 38 districts/cities with time-series data for three years, namely from 2020 to 2022. The findings of this research show that special physical allocation funds have a positive and significant effect on economic growth and the quality of human resources. In contrast, regional spending in the education sector has a considerable influence, with a negative correlation between financial development and the quality of human resources. The implications of this research provide policymakers insight regarding optimizing public funds' use to support equality. Abstract

This study analyzes the factors influencing poverty in the Special Region of Yogyakarta Province (DIY). Among the five provinces on the island of Java, DIY is recorded as the poorest. This study incorporates health and education as independent variables, unemployment as a mediating variable, and poverty as the dependent variable. This quantitative research employs secondary data from BPS, covering five districts/cities in DIY Province from 2010 to 2020. and applies the multiple linear regression method using panel data analysis. The results reveal that health has a positive and significant effect on unemployment, while education has a negative and significant effect on unemployment. Furthermore, unemployment positively influences poverty. In addition, unemployment mediates the relationship between health and poverty negatively and significantly, as well as mediates the relationship between education and poverty positively and significantly. This study highlights that improvements in health and education must be accompanied by job creation initiatives to optimize their impact on poverty reduction.

Abstract

Poverty is still a widespread problem in developing countries, including Indonesia, which can occur especially in urban areas. To overcome poverty, it is necessary to understand the contributing factors and economic indicators that influence it, measured by various indicators. This study examines the impact of Gross Regional Domestic Product (GRDP), unemployment rate, and population on poverty rates in nine cities in East Java from 2017 to 2023. This study analyses how GRDP, unemployment rate, and population contribute to poverty rates in these areas over a specified period. This study uses secondary data from the East Java Central Bureau of Statistics (BPS), focusing on a sample of nine cities in the region. Using panel data analysis, the Ordinary Least Squares (OLS) method and the classical assumption test. The study results reveal a significant relationship between GRDP and, unemployment rates on poverty rates, indicating that economic growth and employment status are closely related to poverty. In contrast, population size does not show a significant effect on poverty.

Abstract

[RETRACTED] Reducing regional development disparities is one of the key focuses of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). The establishment of Special Economic Zones (SEZs) is one of the Indonesian government's efforts to enhance the equitable welfare of its society. One such SEZ is Mandalika in Central Lombok, which is currently being developed into a major investment magnet and tourism destination in Indonesia. However, a paradoxical phenomenon has emerged during this development process: the rise of child labor in Mandalika. Therefore, this study aims to uncover and analyze the phenomenon of child labor in Mandalika as a Special Economic Zone in Central Lombok, using the household perspective of child laborers and employing the augmented qualitative phenomenology method. The results indicate that poverty and the low educational levels of households with child laborers are the main factors driving children into the workforce. Furthermore, despite the low educational levels of the parents, they are determined to support their children’s education. In terms of health, households of child laborers in Mandalika exhibit low health literacy, as evidenced by all study participants lacking BPJS (Indonesia's health insurance) and being unable to provide nutritious food for their children. This study contributes as a stepping stone for both regional and national governments to focus on non-physical development in Mandalika, particularly improving education and human resources. Building physical infrastructure in Mandalika without accompanying human resource development would hinder the optimal impact of such development on the community. This study is also valuable for policymakers in planning comprehensive and participatory child labor alleviation strategies. The output of this research is expected to generate a strategic policy design for the local government of Central Lombok.

Abstract

International labor migration is an important aspect in population dynamics and economic development, particularly in Java, which is the region with the largest number of Indonesian Migrant Workers (PMI). This phenomenon is influenced by various economic factors that drive individuals to seek employment opportunities abroad. This study aims to analyze the determinants of international labor migration in Java during the period 2017-2023, with independent variables including poverty, Gross Regional Domestic Product (GRDP), Open Unemployment Rate (OUR), and Provincial Minimum Wage (UMP). The analytical method used is panel data regression with a Fixed Effect Model (FEM) approach. The results indicate that the variables of poverty and Open Unemployment Rate (OUR) have a negative and significant effect on international labor migration. Meanwhile, the variables of Gross Regional Domestic Product (GRDP) and Provincial Minimum Wage (UMP) do not have a significant effect on international labor migration.

Abstract

This study aims to analyze the impact of economic growth, minimum wage, and education on unemployment in Indonesia during the 2014-2023 period. The study is motivated by the high unemployment rate in Indonesia during the Jokowi administration compared to the SBY administration. The data used is secondary data from the Badan Pusat Statistik (BPS), covering 34 provinces in Indonesia. The analysis method employed is multiple linear regression with panel data. The results show that economic growth and minimum wage have a significant negative effect on the unemployment rate, while education does not have a significant effect on unemployment. Simultaneously, economic growth, minimum wage, and education significantly influence the reduction of unemployment. These findings suggest the importance of improvements in the economic sector, the implementation of minimum wage policies, and the quality of education in reducing unemployment in Indonesia. The implications of this study can assist the government and other stakeholders in formulating effective policies to alleviate unemployment in the region.

Abstract

This study aims to analyse the factors that influence economic growth in West Java Province during the period 2018-2023. The independent variables used in this study are investment, government spending, inflation, and the number of labour forces, with the dependent variable being economic growth measured using Gross Domestic Regional Product (GDRP). The model used in this study is the Random Effect Model (REM) based on the results of the Hausman and Lagrange Multiplier tests. The results showed that government spending and the size of the labour force had a positive and significant effect on economic growth, while investment and inflation had no significant effect. The findings suggest that increased government spending on infrastructure and public services as well as an increase in productively absorbed labour contribute to economic growth in West Java.

Abstract

Water sales are the main source of revenue for PDAM Trenggalek Regency. Although sales revenue continues to increase, the range of water sales services to customers still has not reached an optimal level. The purpose of this study is to analyze the effect of the number of customers, water prices, and rainfall on water sales revenue at the Regional Water Supply Company (PDAM) of Trenggalek Regency. This study uses multiple linear regression analysis with secondary data for 2020-2024 sourced from PDAM Trenggalek Regency and the Central Statistics Agency (BPS). The results showed that partially the number of customers and the price of water have a positive and significant effect on water sales revenue, while rainfall has no significant effect on water sales revenue, and simultaneously, both the number of customers, the price of water, and rainfall together affect water sales revenue at PDAM Trenggalek Regency. PDAM Trenggalek Regency needs to focus on strategies to expand the number of customers and provide affordable water prices for the community. This research can be used as a reference material in making strategic decisions related to PDAM management and operational planning.

Abstract

This research aims to analyze the impact of foreign investment (PMA) on economic growth in Central Java Province. Comprehensive and sustainable development efforts in Central Java have brought economic progress to its people. However, these development achievements have not yet reached their maximum potential. In this case, the processing industry sector is one of the most influential basic sectors in Central Java from 2010 to 2022. This research uses secondary data from the Central Statistics Agency (BPS) and the Investment Coordinating Board (BKPM) for the 2010-2022 period. The analytical method used is Generalized Method of Moments (GMM) dynamic panel data regression analysis to evaluate the relationship between FDI and economic growth as measured by Gross Regional Domestic Product (GRDP). Control variables such as Number of labors, Government Consumption Expenditures, and Mediation Variables namely Average Years of Schooling are also included in the model to obtain more accurate results. The results show that FDI has a positive and significant influence on GRDP, supported by innovation, technology transfer and productivity. The interaction between FDI and education is also significant, indicating the importance of labor quality in maximizing the benefits of foreign investment. The average length of independent schooling also has a significant impact on GRDP. In addition, government consumption expenditure and labor play a positive role as supporting factors, encouraging inclusive and sustainable economic growth.
