Abstract

Background: BPJS (Badan Penyelenggara Jaminan Sosial or Social Health Insurance Administration Body) employment data for Meureubo District in 2023 shows that 85 work accident victims died or disappeared during inclement weather, and 18 out of 21 fishermen who had minor accidents required occupational health and safety insurance. However, out of over 500 fishermen in the district, only 176 are registered with BPJS Employment. This study aims to explore BPJS Employment’s strategy in ensuring occupational health and safety for non-wage workers in the fishing sector. Methods: The research employs a qualitative method with a descriptive approach, using observation and interviews for data collection. The study includes seven informants: four fishermen as main informants, and three key informants - the head of participation, a special account representative, and a case manager. Data analysis involves data reduction, data presentation, and drawing conclusions. Results: BPJS Employment's strategy includes urging agencies to protect fishermen's rights, conducting promotive and preventive outreach, creating informational materials, engaging in regional empowerment, and employing a 3-4-5 strategy (three main strategies, four focuses, and five key elements). These efforts aim to increase awareness and participation among fishermen. Conclusion: BPJS Employment Meulaboh faces several obstacles, such as limited understanding of the program among local government and communities, low public awareness about the importance of social security, and irregular income among fishermen, hindering their ability to pay contributions. Consequently, the goal of ensuring occupational health and safety in the fishing sector remains unachieved, as many fishermen are not registered with BPJS Employment.

Abstract

Background: Green coconut water is a most popular functional drink in all tropical countries. The presence of toxic heavy metals in surface seawater is a major problem globally, with a large share in developing countries like Bangladesh. The objective of the study was to assess the concentration of heavy metals like Pb, Cr, Ni, Cu, and Cd in green coconut water and surface seawater around sea beach areas of Bangladesh. Methods: Green coconut water and surface seawater samples were collected from six sea beach areas and transferred to the laboratory. Then, they were allowed for digestion, and finally, the concentration of heavy metal was assessed by the atomic absorption spectrophotometer (AAS). Results: In green coconut water, the concentrations of heavy metal exist bellowing the safe limit with the following order: Pb > Cr > Cu > Ni > Cd. But, Pb, and Cr were prevalent in surface seawater and found to decrease in a sequence of Pb > Cr > Ni > Cd, Cu. Besides, Human health risks associated with the intake of these metals were evaluated in terms of metal pollution index (MPI), daily intake of metals (DIM), health risk index (HRI), and hazard index (HI). However, most of the index values were found to be bellowing the reference value. Conclusion: The concentration of green coconut water is almost proportional to surface seawater in sea beach areas. The high prevalence of Pb and Cr in surface seawater is alarming, and this impact is already seen in green coconut water. So, it is necessary to take action on seawater pollution in Bangladesh.

Abstract

Stunting is a serious health problem in Indonesia, affecting children's growth and development and the future of the younger generation. This community service aims to accompany early childhood education program (ECEP)and Integrated Service Post in implementing Early Stimulation, Detection and Intervention for Growth and Development of Children (ESDIGDC) services as an effort to prevent stunting. This activity involves training and mentoring for ECEP teachers and Integrated Service Post toddler cadres, focusing on understanding stunting, growth measurement techniques and appropriate early stimulation. The results of this program show a significant increase in participants' knowledge and skills regarding stunting and early detection. Parent participation in Integrated Service Post activities has also increased, with more children being checked regularly. In addition, several cases of stunting were detected early, allowing immediate intervention. The positive impact of this program is not only seen in stunting prevention, but also in increasing public awareness of the importance of monitoring children's growth and development and strengthening collaboration between ECEP and Integrated Service Post. Overall, this assistance has proven to be effective as a stunting prevention service intervention. It is hoped that this program can be adopted in other regions as a model in efforts to reduce stunting rates nationally.

Abstract

Background: Students can be taught eco-friendly consuming habits through classroom learning activities with the help of teachers and other school-related activities. The study's focus is a case study completed at a vocational high school. We seek to understand the broad-reaching consequences that this teaching strategy might evoke by examining the potential implications of integrating environmentally responsible consumption practices within an educational framework. Through a thorough case study, we aim to shed light on how incorporating environmentally responsible consuming practices into schooling could support more general educational goals and encourage sustainable habits. Internalizing this through character education entails setting models and developing routine behaviors based on school policies and extracurricular activities in addition to integrated environmental education. This supports the long-term integration of these ideals into students' personalities. Method: This research uses a survey methodology and is explanatory. The SPSS (Statistical Package for Social Science) was used to analyze the data. 95 respondents make up the sample size for the sampling method, which uses proportionate random sampling. Result: According to the research's findings, integrating character education and general education are impacted by internalizing environmentally responsible consumption habits.

Abstract

Background: The Sleman Regency Government is committed to solving the stunting problem by implementing an integrated stunting prevention program by encouraging the participation of penta-helix. Estimating stunting prevalence accomplishment targets is crucial for measuring progress, guiding strategies, and ensuring stunting reduction success. This study aims to provide information regarding the factors that contribute to the prevalence of stunted toddlers and develop a predictive model for that prevalence. Methods: The study investigated the prevalence of stunting, wasting, and underweight in Sleman Regency using publicly accessible reports, secondary data, and reputable websites. Data was gathered through audits of stunting cases and factors from district-level program managers, and analysed through desk reviews. This research was conducted in Sleman Regency from December 2023 to February 2024. Results: The investigation found that stunting is linked to family smoking, inadequate toddler nutrition, inactive JKN, chronic energy deficiency throughout pregnancy, and low-weight, preterm births. Through rules, policies, and multisectoral multistakeholder collaboration, the Sleman Regency Government aims to reduce stunting. The interventions include maternal and child health, nutritional counselling, drinking water and sanitation, early childhood education, and pre-conception family life preparation. A model to estimate long-term stunting prevalence is needed to track trends, evaluate interventions, and support evidence-based decision-making. Stunting is vital to public health and economic benefit. Based on audit data, child nutrition trends, and prediction models, Sleman Regency should reduce stunting by 0.02% per year for local data and 0.5% per year for national data. The determinants of stunting in Sleman Regency are very diverse, including problems related to nutrition and non-nutrition. Conclusion: Stunting prevention is focused on efforts to overcome habits, improve the nutritional status of pregnant women and optimize better pregnancy outcomes. Based on the analysis, the stunting reduction target was determined based on national and local surveys of 0.5% and 0.02% per year, respectively. Keywords: Under five children; estimation model; prevalence; stunting
