Abstract

This study was aimed at: 1) identifying household expenditure structures of paddy farmers in Bunga Raya Sub district Siak District; 2) analyzing household consumption patterns of paddy farmers in Bunga Raya Sub district Siak District and 3) analyzing dominant factors affecting consumption patterns of paddy farmers in Bunga Raya Sub district Siak District. The research was conducted at two villages in Bunga Raya Sub district, which were Bunga Raya and Kemuning Muda by using survey method. Random sampling was used for selecting samples by interviewing 42 respondents. Binary logistic model of expenditure structures and consumption patterns were used to analyze the data. According to the analysis of income structure, the largest household income was based on paddy farming. Consumption patterns of paddy farmers household showed that food expenditure was as much as non-food expenditure. The dominant factors affecting food consumption patterns of paddy farmers household were income and number of household members. Relationship between status of occupation and expenditure allocation opportunity was inversely proportional. This means that the smaller the household income and the greater the number of family members, the higher the opportunity for farmers to allocate their expenditure on food consumption.

Abstract

The research aimed to analyze the competitiveness of the crude palm oil (CPO) production and formulating the improvement strategy of the International market competitiveness of the CPO in Dumai. The research was conducted in Dumai, Riau Province. The Policy Analysis Matrix (PAM) was conducted to anlyzed the competitiveness of the CPO production. The research result shows that the CPO production in Dumai was internationally competitive, it was indicated by the Domestic Ratio Cost (DRC), and it was 0.30. It has financial competitiveness also with the Private Cost Ratio of 0.12. The CPO production was gained from the combination impact of policy transfer from both tradable input and output, with the effective protection coefficient (EPC) value of 0.85. This means that government policy is not able to provide greater added value or protection by providing incentives. CPO prices do not provide real benefits to producers of CPO or palm oil farmers to produce. In addition, the profitability coefficient (PC) value was 1.07. It indicated that the financial profit was higher, it was 1.07 times higher than the social profit. Furthermore, the subsidy ratio to producers (SRP) which was the measurement from the combination of all transfer effects indicated the value of 0.05, which means divergency between the financial and social profit approximately around 5% from the gross profit. According to the PCR score which was smaller than DRC, it could be inferred that the palm oil plantation business in Dumai City is actually still in need of the government intervention to support of the International market competitiveness of the CPO.

Abstract

This study aimed to analyze the marketing of rice in Bunga Raya Village and Kemuning Muda Village in Bunga Raya District using a structural, behavioral and market performance approach. The research location was determined by purposive sampling, namely two villages which were the centers of rice production. Respondents from this study were rice farmers and all marketing institutions involved in marketing rice from farmers as producers to wholesalers as consumers. The results show that there are three channels of rice marketing, namely marketing channels I, farmers sell to collectors, then collectors sell to wholesalers, marketing channels II, farmers sell to collectors who have mobile rice milling and marketing channels III, farmers sell to wholesalers. The market structure of rice that occurs is the oligopsonic market, judging by the relatively small number of buyers, then viewed from the market share value, concentration ratio and the Herfindhal Index of each trader shows a value that is not too different. Farmers as producers are price takers which results in the rate of price changes at farmers as producers are smaller than the rate of price changes at the level of wholesalers as consumers. The marketing margin seen from each marketing channel that occurs shows that the largest margin and profit are obtained by traders who perform more marketing functions.

Abstract

This study aimed to investigate the characteristics of farmers and moris pineapple farming costs, farmers' income, and eligibility of moris pineapple farming. The study used survey method with the number of respondents of 25 farmers. The study was conducted in Sukajadi Village, Kuala Cinaku sub-district, Indragiri Hulu, 2015. The qualitative data was analyzed descriptively while farm viability was analyzed using the balance of benefit cost ratio (BCR), the breakeven point of production and prices as well as sensitivity analyses. The results showed that more than 80% of farmers belong to the productive age with a similar level of primary school education as much as 66% with moris pineapple farming experience less than 10 years, or about 85% of the respondents. Total costs incurred for pineapple farming per hectare per cropping period is IDR 7.403 million. Gross revenues of morris pineapple farmers in the first year is IDR 9.765 million, the second year is IDR 13,662,500 and the third year is IDR 9.853 million. Economically, moris pineapple farming is not feasible with the BCR value of 0,78. A sensitivity analysis of farm use scenarios of increased production costs by 20% gained change of revenue of IDR 25,895,080 with the value of BCR of 2.9. While using scenarios to forego revenues by 20%, increase the cost of production by 20%, then there is a change in revenue of IDR 20,716,064 with the BCR value of 2.3.

Abstract

Indonesia is the largest natural rubber producer in the world after Thailand. Indonesia was ranked second in the world in terms of production, and ranked first in terms of land area. Beside Thailand, the main competitor of indonesia’s natural rubber in the international market comes from Malaysia. Observing that it carried out a study with the aim to analyze the response of supply and demand for Indonesia’s natural rubber in the international market. This study uses econometric approach, simultaneous equation model, using two stages least square method. The main results of this study indicate that the supply and demand for Indonesia natural rubber. Thailand is a country that is decisive in the formation of the world’s natural rubber prices from the supply side. This is closely related to the Thai government that consistently develop natural rubber from the upstream to the downstream. In Indonesia, there is the impression the government’s attention is diverted to the development of palm oil. Thus, to develop natural rubber in Indonesia is required to stabilize natural rubber prices through increased raw material quality of natural rubber both at the level of people’s plantations and large estates. In addition, the downstream industrial policy, particularly natural rubber processing industry, which had been launched a few years ago, needs to be consistently implemented by the Indonesia  government.
