Abstract

The research of using word search puzzle game in developing the students’ reading comprehension has been done at SMA Negeri 1 Samalanga, Bireuen District. It was begun from August 8th 2020 until August 27th 2020.The scope of this research focus on escalation reading comprehension on narrative text by using word search puzzle game. This research is designed as collaborative classroom action research with four steps, namely: planning the action, implementing the action, observing the action, and reflecting the action and has two cycles. There are four kinds of instruments which use to collect the data needed in this research, namely: observation checklist for the teacher and the students, test that consist of pre-test and post-test, questionnaires, and field note. The data has been collected and was analyzed through qualitative and quantitative analysis. The research was conducted for the second-year students. The number of samples are 20 students. The data analysis showed that the mean score of students in post-test in cycle is 58,5, although the mean score has not achieved the criteria of success, but it showed that a significant difference with the pre- test, the score in pre-test was 56. Because the criteria of success have not been achieved in cycle I, the researcher continued the second cycle to get an optimal result for the students’ achievement. The result showed that the score of the students in post-test in cycle II was 79. Its mean that the research was success. Based on the evidence, it could be concluded that word search puzzle game could be used in the teaching reading comprehension to improving the students’ reading comprehension.

Abstract

This thesis entiled Improving Students’ Reading Comprehension Throught the application of learning Cell Technique (A Collaborative Classroom Action Research to the first Year Student of SMA Negeri 2 Kutamakmur). The problem of this research are: 1) How does Learning Cell Technique improved the students’ reading ability in reading comprehension? And(2) how do the students’ respond toward the implementation Learning Cell Technique to the first year students’ of SMAN 2 Kuta Makmur?. The purpose of this research are: 1) To improve students’ reading comprehension to the first year students’ of SMAN 2 Kuta Makmur by using Learning Cell Technique. 2) To know the students response toward the implementation of Learning Cell Technique in teaching reading. To respond the research questions, the researcher used the collaborative classroom action research as the methodology of the research. Then the researcher did the collaboration with englis teacher to do the research. The setting of this research was SMAN 2 Kuta Makmur.

Abstract

The research of the effect of jigsaw strategy in teaching reading of recount text has been done at MAN 5 Bireuen. It was begun from March 9 2021 until March 12 2021. The problems of this research are; does the jigsaw strategy provide a better effect to students reading Score? And to what extent does the jigsaw strategy provide the significance effect to the students reading score. Based on the research problems, there are two purposes of the research, namely; to find out the jigsaw strategy to provide a better effect students reading score and to find out extent the jigsaw strategy provides the significance effect to the students reading score. The scope of this research focused on investigating the use of Jigsaw strategy in the increase of students’ reading score. This research is designed as an experimental research with test consisted of pre-test and post-test as the sole instrument, the data is then analyzed using the formula introduced by Winarsunu to find the mean score and using the paired T-score statistical formula to find the t-value in order to prove the hypotheses. The results of the research on the effect of jigsaw strategy in teaching reading of recount text on 1st grade students of MAN 5 Bireuen showed that there was an increase in the mean score of students from 57,5 (pre-test) to 97,5 (post- test). The increase was also seen in the student category scores where previously they were at the sufficient category (pre-test), increased to the very high category (post-test). The hypothesis which states that there is a significant difference in students' ability in reading recount text before and after the jigsaw technique is applied (H1) is accepted. This can be seen from the t value (8,16) > t-table value (2,07), taking into account the significant level (α) 0.05 or confidence level 95%, the correlation coefficient value 0,26, and the standard deviation value of pre-test 21,37 and post-test 3,98.

Abstract

ABSTRACTThe purpose of this research is to solve students' problems in improving speaking skills, especiallyin pronunciation and grammar. Problems with students' pronunciation and grammar make theirspeech difficult to understand. Poor speaking skills can cause misunderstandings in conveyingmessages in oral communication where the researcher focuses on improving students' speakingskills in daily conversation. The subject of this study was 36 students of class X at SMAN 2Lhokseumawe. The research method used was an action research. This study conducted fivemeetings for two cycles. The first cycle was conducted in two meetings and the second cyle wasconducted in one meeting. One meeting was for pre-test and the last meeting was for post-test.The intruments used in this study were speaking tests, observation check list, an observation list,and a questionnaire The result of the study showed that the students’ responses in learningspeaking was good. They enjoyed the activities through Dialogue Technique in class by having adiscussion, sharing, and cooperating well. The students’ improvement was proved by theirspeaking test results which increased from test to test. In pretest, all of students final scores wereunder 46.67. In the cycle 1 test, no one of them got final score less than 56.67. From the cycle 2test, most of the students got final score more than 63.33. Then, the data of post-test showed thatall of the students got score more than 73.33. Based on the result above, Dialogue Technique canbe used as an alternative teaching technique to improve students’ speaking skill. I suggest theteachers to use a topic variation to make the learning process more enjoyable. Then, for the nextresearchers, they could use this study as a reference to do deeper research about teachingmethod. Finally, for the English learners, they should keep practicing speaking English every day tomake their speaking ability better.Key Words: Speaking, Dialogue

Abstract

This article describes a classroom action research held in speaking class through the implementation of trivia-based activity to improve the University students’ speaking fluency and improve the classroom situation as well. The method used in the reasearch is collaborative classroom action research which was conducted in two cycles. Each cycle included four stages namely planning, implementing, observing and reflecting. The data that were obtained qualitatively and quantitatively showed that through trivia-based activity could improve: (1) students’ speaking fluency; (2) speaking classroom situation.

Abstract

The title of this research is The Application of Merry Go Around Technique In Developing the Students’ Reading Ability (A Collaborative Classroom Action Research to the Second Year Students of MTsN Dewantara). The problems of this research are: 1)How does Merry Go Arround technique can improve the students’ ability in mastering reading of the second year students of MTsN Dewantara?. 2) How does Merry Go Arround technique can improve the students’ motivation of MTsN Dewantara in learning reading?. The Purpose of the Research are : 1) To know how the Merry Go Arround technique can improve the students’ ability in mastering reading of the second year students of MTsN Dewantara. 2) To know how the Merry Go Arround technique can improve the students’ motivation in learning reading of MTsN Dewantara in learning reading. Reading is defined as the level of understanding of writing. Proficient reading depends on the ability to recognize words quickly and effortlessly. Merry Go Around technique is the way to generate the activity and should answering the question inform of around and compounding the way of hand our. The methodology of this research is Collaborative Classroom Action Research; the setting of this research was MTsN Dewantara. The sample of this research was the second year students of class VIII/C which total students was 30 students. The instruments used in this research are: test, observation sheet, questionnaire, and field note. The result of this research are: the answer of the first problem was, the students’ ability in mastering reading by using Merry go Around technique improved, it showed by increased of the first cycle was 62, but it did not find the criteria of succes, so the resarcher continued to next cycle and the researcher found 76. It meant the students’ score improve significantly. The result of questionnaire also in level 3 by the range score 3.9 and 3.8. It meant that the students had positive response toward Merry go Around technique in improving reading. It could be seen from the result of questionnaire analysis that consisted in number 3.8 and 3.9. It stood in the criteria of the success. So that, the researcher concluded that the students were happy and their motivation improved.

Abstract

This research aimed to analyse code switching used by the students and the teacher in foreign language classroom. In detail, the researcher interest in finding the teacher’s language used, and the students’ language used. Then, it also observed the reason why they do code switching. This research was designed descriptively. The subject of this research was English teacher and the students at MAS Al Zahrah. The data of this research was the English teacher’ and the students’ utterances which contain code-switching. The instrument used was an audio-video recorder which recorded the classroom conversation. The results showed that the code mostly used by the English teachers and the students was Bahasa Indonesia. Then, the other dominant codes were English, switching English – Bahasa Indonesia, and switching Bahasa Indonesia – English. The finding of this research was the teacher and the students did code-switch more than target language in teaching learning process. They believe that code switching is an effective way in learning.

Abstract

In learning English at school, argumentative writing is one of the materials that are considered difficult for students to understand. In general, the learning model developed by English teachers is in conventional learning activities. Therefore, it is necessary to apply the learning of Argumentative Writing Using Audio Visual Through Lesson Study (The First Year of MA Al-Muslim Islamic Boarding School). One of the types of lessons considered by researchers can motivate students to play an active and fun role in the teaching and learning process. This type of classroom action research is carried out through 4 stages, namely: planning, implementing actions, observing and reflecting. The data collected in this study were the students' scores in working on the questions given the initial and final tests, the results of observations on the learning steps and the results of interviews regarding students' understanding and difficulties. The results of this study can be concluded that students' learning mastery also experienced an increase, in the first cycle by 75% and becoming 85% in the second cycle. The increase in student learning outcomes was also followed by an increase in student learning activities by 83.64% in the first cycle and increased to 89.88% in the second cycle. This shows that learning argumentative writing through lesson study can improve student learning outcomes.

Abstract

The title of this research is increasing students’ ability in reading comprehension through pqrst strategy in lesson study. The objective of this research is: To describe the students’ achievement in reading comprehension by using PQRST strategy at SMAN Peusangan and to know the students’ respond through prediction strategy to the reading comprehension in recount text of grade ten students of SMA N 1 Peusangan. The data collected through the observation sheet, text, and test. This research uses lesson study in the teaching process and this research was done in two meeting. The research subject was the first year students of SMA N 1 Peusangan. The sample of this resarch was were 21 students. The data was collected through the observation sheet, text, and test.The data was analyzed through Quantitative Recount Text in conducting the research. The procedure of lesston study of lesson study: Plan, Do, See. After the researcher was done all the the steps of action the result of students’ means score for the first meeting was 66,90 it does not meets the criteria, then the researcher decide to continue for the second meeting the students’ score was 85 and it meets the criteria of SMA N 1 Peusangan. The finding of the researcher also showed that PQRST Strategy in Lesson Study model can icreas the students’ reading comprehension, it was showed from the result of students mastery recoun text. The result of this study indicate that reading can add insight and new vocabulary, because by reading students would get a lot of new words that were not yet know, therefore reading be able to increase students’ vocabulary and the steps of the PQRST strategy can help students understand the text more easly bisides that students also mindset broad and sharp.

Abstract

The title of this research is “bosting of writing skill by using interactive venn diagrm technique (A lesson Study base at SMA 2 peusangan). The problem of the research is : How is the implementation of writing by using interactive venn diagram to second grade students of SMAN Peusangan through lesson study ? The purpose of the research is : To bosting students’ writing skill through the implementing interactive venn diagram technique to the second grade students of SMAN 2 Peusangan. Writing is generally considered the most difficult skill to learn, not only because of the need to master many English skills; reading, writing, and listening, but also because of the differences between the rules of the learner's mother tongue and the language being studied. There were some difficulties that students face during writing the descriptive paragraph. First, the problem in developing the ideas. Some students wrote many main ideas in one paragraph; the idea of the paragraph was still ambiguous. Sometimes, it is also found that some paragraphs were written in one sentence only, The idea of the paragraph was still not clear. Second, the problem in organizing the ideas to write a narrative text. Third, the students found difficulties in grammar. Third, the students found difficulties in grammar. Fourth, when students proceed writing something, many problems could be found, Some students are lack of vocabularies and they also have difficulties in developing their ideas related to their topic. The Fifth difficulty was students’ related with spelling, punctuation and capitalization. . Lesson Study is a study used by researchers with the aim of boosting students' writing skills with one or more technique in their class. The instruments used to collect the data are writing test and questionnaires. Based on the analysis of the students’ writing test, the researcher explained that the average persentage of the writing test is 49,33 %, the percentage showed that the problems are faced by students was from many aspect, such as : Feeling Crisis of IdeasIt is very difficult to start writing, for fear of being wrong/lack of confidence, or wanting the writing to be perfect immediately.
