Abstract

The entertainment industry, including foreign language films, can be an interesting object of study in translation studies. In foreign language films there are translations in various languages, according to the object of the audience. The film When Cinta Bertasbiqh I (KCB I) is one of the films in which there are dialogues in foreign languages, in this case Arabic. The subtitles of this film (subtitles) can be researched by being oriented towards the source language and the target language. This can be seen from some of the dialogues in the KCB I film which features various Arabic fusha and Egyptian 'amiyah. Therefore, this study aims to describe and classify the variety of sentences in the dialogues contained in the KCB I film along with their translations. From the results of the analysis it was found that the fusha variety is more often used in formal conditions, while the Egyptian 'amiyah variety is widely used in daily dialogue. The translations presented in the subtitles of the KCB I film tend to prioritize equivalence of meaning and are more oriented to the target language, this allegedly aims to provide comfort to the audience.

Abstract

The media, both print and online, not only function as a conveyer of information, but also become a forum for framing certain intentions or ideologies. This framing can be seen through critical reading by identifying the diction, the structure of news content, and the context of news discourse. The aim of this paper was to examine the news related to the issue of awarding an honorary professor title to the former President of the Republic of Indonesia, Megawati Soekarnoputri, in four online media, namely kompas.com, republica.co.id, tribunnews.com and newspapertempo.id. Data collection technique used document. The data was analysed by using the concept of Teun A. Van Dijk’s discourse analysis concept. The results of the analysis show that the four news texts contain of three dimensions text: superstructure, macro structure and micro structure.

Abstract

The purpose of this study is to explain the rhetorical style of preaching by Ustadz Abdul Somad and the consequences when delivering his lecture at the Al-Hamidy Islamic Boarding School, Banyuanyar, Pamekasan. This study uses a qualitative method that is descriptive analysis. The data collection technique is Download, view, listen, and record. As for the data analysis technique, using Aristotle's rhetorical theory, namely the five canons of rhetorics combined with Gorys Keraf's concepts, namely diction and language style, characterized by (1) Reading every lecture discourse that has been converted into written language; (2) Marking utterances that contain diction and figurative language; (3) Identifying diction characteristics (intonation, high tone, low tone, connotative, formal, informal, idiom, slang, and jargon), language style characteristics (majas, metaphor, lexicon, etc.), body style characteristics (looking to the left/ right, swinging arms, looking down). The results showed that Ustadz Abdul Somad combined diction and language style including (words and word choice, word meaning, language style based on word choice, tone, sentence structure, meaning, gestures).

Abstract

Abstrak Isu gender merupakan pembahasan yang tidak ada habisnya. Pembahasan mengenai keadilan gender memunculkan narasi kesetaraan gender. Berbeda halnya dengan kesetaraan gender, terdapat narasi keserasian gender yang mengangkat perbedaan antara perempuan dan laki-laki sebagai suatu kerangka kerja yang saling melengkapi. Keserasian gender berkaitan erat dengan peran perempuan dan laki-laki sesuai porsinya. Untuk itu dalam artikel ini akan dijabarkan mengenai keserasian gender melalui peran gender perempuan dan laki-laki dalam film Keluarga Cemara. Penelitian ini merupakan penelitian kualitatif deskriptif. Objek kajiannya yaitu peran gender dalam film Keluarga Cemara. Adapun hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa terdapat peran gender laki-laki meliputi kategori standard bearers yaitu peran be the best you can dan good samaritan, kategori workers yaitu peran work ethic, kategori lovers yakni peran breadwinner dan nurturer, serta kategori bosses yaitu peran control. Sementara peran gender perempuan yaitu peran reproduksi dan peran produksi. Perbedaan peran antara perempuan dan laki-laki ini saling berkaitan dan melengkapi satu sama lain. Dalam film Keluarga Cemara ini tokoh Abah dan Emak menunjukkan adanya keserasian gender dalam sebuah keluarga.

Abstract

Artikel ini membahas tentang pembelajaran bahasa asing (B2) berbasis konten pada program kursus bahasa yang dilakukan secara daring. Tujuan penelitian ini adalah untuk mendeskripsikan penerapan, evaluasi, kelebihan serta kekurangan pendekatan berbasis konten dalam pembelajaran daring kursus bahasa asing. Metode yang digunakan adalah deskriptif kualitatif dengan teknik pengumpulan data studi pustaka yang merujuk pada teori atau artikel-artikel terkait proses kegiatan belajar mengajar daring berbasis konten. Hasil dari penelitian ini menunjukkan bahwa implementasi pendekatan berbasis konten dalam pembelajaran daring bahasa asing terdiri dari tiga tahapan kegiatan, yaitu pendahuluan, inti, dan penutup yang seluruhnya berfokus pada pembelajaran dengan konteks tema tertentu. Evaluasi pembelajaran berbasis konten dapat dilakukan guru dengan memberikan serangkaian pertanyaan tes yang berkaitan dengan tema atau topik yang dipelajari baik melalui tanya jawab menggunakan aplikasi tatap maya seperti Zoom ataupun meminta siswa mengerjakan soal-soal menggunakan aplikasi lain seperti Quizizz, Kahoot atau Google Classroom. Kelebihan pendekatan berbasis konten adalah cukup mudah diterapkan dalam pembelajaran daring sehingga pembelajaran lebih efektif, menarik, dan memotivasi siswa. Kekurangannya adalah fokus pembelajaran hanya pada pemahaman siswa terkait materi pelajaran bukan pada penguasaan kompetensi serta kurang mengasah penerapan konsep bahasa dalam konteks kehidupan nyata.

Abstract

The issue of feminism can be seen from several stories in literary works, one of which is short stories. This research was conducted with the aim of looking at the forms of injustice experienced by women based on marginalization, subordination, stereotypes, workload, and violence experienced by the main character in the short story "Perempuan Itu Pernah Cantik" by Mashdar Zainal. The research method used is descriptive qualitative method. The results of the study show that (1) female characters experience marginalization as a wife before the wife must submit to her husband regardless of the conditions experienced in her family; (2) female characters experience subordination in their families in the form of a lower position than their husbands so that the husband has the right to order his wife; (3) female characters experience stereotypes in the form of a wife having to serve her husband as well as possible even though she is already tired of doing a lot of housework; (4) female figures get a very tiring workload every day because all housework is done by the wife herself, while the husband never helps with household chores because of busy work; and (5) the main character does not experience physical violence, but experiences tremendous psychological stress because she used to be a beautiful model now just a housewife who never finishes with housework.

Abstract

This article aims to analyze and elaborate the interpretation of the depiction of misogynistic cases that is contained in the web comic “Qahera the Superhero”. In this study, the researcher interprets the misogynistic issue which refers to the interview section from an Illustrator of “Qahera the Superhero” named Deena, the results of the interview was later published on the vice.com page. This article is a descriptive qualitative research, in which the research conducted data searches regarding to the explanation and description of misoginism, especially for what is happening in Egypt. The method of this research is a literature review which using journals that is related to the issues that is relevant to this study. In addition, the researchers made observations and searches about the news that was published on the vice.com page with the title “Qahera, Karakter Superhero Berhijab asal Mesir Membasmi Pemikiran Misoginis”. The results of the study found that the misogynistic issues contained in the Qahera comic were the result of visualization of cases of sexual harassment and violence that occurred in Egypt. The characterization of the hijab-wearing superhero Qahera is a picture of Muslim women who experience violence and they rise up to be able to voice the injustices they experience.

Abstract

This study aims to describe the image and stereotype of Indonesian women and the resistance ofthe character Arjuna in the popular novel Perempuan Bernama Arjuna against the image andstereotype that is widely developed. Arjuna is an Indonesian woman, father of a Chinese descentand mother who has thick Javanese blood. Arjuna, who is 25 years old, is a philosophy student ata university in the Netherlands. The method used in this research is descriptive analytic methodusing literature review technique. The data source used is the novel Perempuan Bernama Arjunaby Remy Sylado. The results of this study indicate that in the novel Perempuan Bernama Arjuna,there are 13 stereotypes of women. Of the 13 stereotypes of women that emerged, there were 10stereotypes that Arjuna refuted and considered not really representative of what womenexperienced, including himself, for example regarding women whose beauty is only judged fromtheir physical appearance. For him, the beauty of women is not only seen from the physical,more than that, women can also be judged from their intellectual level. There will be no use if awoman is physically beautiful, but does not have a qualified level of intelligence. In addition,there are 3 stereotypes of women whose existence Arjuna agrees with is also attached to him, forexample about women who are not used to speaking frankly as is in their hearts and heads.Arjuna who was educated by a mother who came from the Javanese tribe also adheres to onething taught by his mother, namely that a woman must be good at watching hermouth.

Abstract

This writing aims to answer the questions in the previous paragraph, the method used by the researcher is a feminist discourse analysis method In this writing, the theory that will be used is the theory of feminism in relation to this novel telling the story of a woman who voiced her rights. In this study the most important problem is how women are displayed and speak in voicing their rights and how the struggle is displayed through the selection of words, sentences and forms of stories to the public. The analysis technique used in this study was the analysis of the Wacana Sara Mills. This method is used in research that focuses on the discourse of women. The point of attentive this method is about how women are displayed in the text. The results of this study concluded that the resistance movement carried out by women could be done through the literary road. By displaying women as a tough main character as a subject who sued the culture of patriarchy who had already been well-established in the community as objects and readers were led to consciously be aware of the mistake that often cornered women.

Abstract

The ideology contained in the novel is a central concept in critical discourse analysis. One of the novelists who has a view of the surrounding existence through an ideology is Habiburarahman El Shirazy. The purpose of this research is to find out the form of ideology that underlies the novel Ayat-Ayat Cinta by Habiburahman El Shirazy and to describe the context that triggers the ideology contained in the novel. This research uses Van Dijk's Critical Discourse Analysis theory. This type of research is included in qualitative descriptive research with content analysis techniques. The data in this study are sentences and paragraphs. Based on the research results, it is known that the ideology underlying the novel Ayat-ayat Cinta by Habiburarahman El Shirazy is Islamic ideology. The context that triggers this ideology is how Habiburrahman El Shirazy views perceptions of Muslim and western society towards Islam, views on how to date in Islam, and is based on Habiburrahman El Shirazy's biography. Overall, the novel Ayat-Ayat Cinta is a novel that reminds readers that at least they can change their mindset by reading and understanding the Koran well and implementing Islamic concepts in everyday life.
