Abstract

This study aims to examine the impact of artificial intelligence (AI) on the understanding of meaning and communication processes within the field of language. As AI usage continues to grow across various platforms—such as chatbots and virtual assistants—it becomes increasingly important to explore how this technology affects patterns of human interaction. Data were collected from 45 participants through questionnaires and in-depth interviews designed to uncover users' experiences with AI and the challenges they encountered. The findings reveal that although the majority of respondents are satisfied with AI’s ability to deliver information, there are significant shortcomings in its understanding of context and linguistic nuances. Only about 30% of respondents believe that AI can truly grasp deeper meanings. The study also incorporates philosophical implications concerning the authority of meaning, authenticity in communication, and identity in digital interactions. These results offer valuable insights for technology developers to enhance AI's capacity to comprehend social and emotional contexts, while also helping the public to better understand the limitations and potential of AI in communication. Consequently, this research contributes to a deeper understanding of the interconnectedness between language, technology, and philosophy in the digital age.

Abstract

In the era of Society 5.0, technological advancements play a significant role in various aspects of life, including the transformation of literature. Literary works that were once only available in print format can now be accessed digitally through virtual spaces. One notable phenomenon in digital literature is the novel Dilan 1990. This study aims to describe the characteristics of this literary work and the digital aspects surrounding it. The research employs a qualitative approach with a case study design. The case study method was chosen to analyze the phenomenon of digital literature as represented by the novel Dilan 1990, in the context of digital literacy and reader interaction patterns through social media. The findings reveal that social media and digital platforms have influenced how readers interact with the novel. Content dissemination via social media has broadened its readership, while active reader engagement in creating derivative works—such as fan art and fan fiction—has contributed to the expansion of the story’s narrative universe. Abstract

This study aims to analyze the linguistic errors found in the procedural text writing of seventh grade junior high school students. A procedural text is a type of text that provides instructions on the steps to perform an activity in a clear sequence. The analysis was conducted by identifying the types of linguistic errors occurring in the text structure, sentence usage, grammar, and spelling.  The research method used was descriptive qualitative, with a data analysis technique involving the classification of linguistic errors based on their types. The results of the analysis indicate that the most dominant errors were related to punctuation usage, improper use of imperative verbs, and errors in sentence structure that do not conform to language rules. This study provides recommendations for teaching Indonesian at the junior high school level to place more emphasis on linguistic learning that adheres to the correct procedural text writing conventions.

Abstract

The feud between Palestine and Israel still occurs today. This led to a boycott of Israeli products, which was aimed at showing resistance to what Israel was doing to Palestine. Apart from that, in Indonesia, there are many influencers and mass media who also report on events that occurred in Palestine. This is done in various ways, one of which is by creating poster designs about products originating from Israel. Analysis can be carried out from these posters to find out the ideology and implied meaning of the poster. So this is interesting to research. Abstract

This study analyzes Indonesian Foreign Minister Retno Marsudi's speech at the 10th Special Emergency Session of the UN General Assembly in New York, 26 October 2023, using Aristotle's rhetorical theory which includes logos, ethos, and pathos. This research aims to identify the rhetorical strategies used and assess the effectiveness of the speech in achieving Indonesia's diplomatic goals amid complex global issues. The research method used is content analysis-based qualitative analysis of the text and video of the speech as well as supporting literature. The results showed that Retno Marsudi effectively utilized the logos element through data-based arguments and references to international resolutions, the ethos element through her credibility as an experienced diplomat, and the pathos element through emotional narratives about the humanitarian impact of global conflicts. The combination of the three elements strengthened Indonesia's diplomatic message and increased international audience acceptance. This research contributes to the study of rhetoric in diplomatic communication and provides practical insights for the development of more effective international communication strategies.

Abstract

Globalization has transformed the role of languages in cross-cultural communication, positioning German as a significant second language for individuals engaging in international contexts. This study aims to analyze how learners develop communicative competencies in German as a second language (L2) by integrating cognitive and functional linguistic approaches. The research investigates the cognitive processes and pragmatic applications involved in language acquisition, particularly in addressing the demands of a globalized world. The study employs a mixed-methods approach, combining qualitative data from learner interviews and classroom observations with quantitative data from language proficiency assessments. The conceptual framework is grounded in Second Language Acquisition (SLA) theories, incorporating cognitive principles such as memory, language transfer, and metalinguistic awareness, alongside functional theories like Systemic Functional Linguistics and Pragmatics. This dual perspective allows for a holistic analysis of how learners internalize and apply language in both structured and spontaneous communication. Findings reveal that learners' success in acquiring German as an L2 is influenced by a combination of intrinsic motivation, access to authentic language input, and opportunities for intercultural interactions. The cognitive analysis highlights the role of linguistic scaffolding and the gradual reduction of L1 interference in achieving fluency. From a functional perspective, learners who engage in contextually diverse and culturally rich environments demonstrate higher levels of pragmatic competence, including adaptability and effective use of speech acts. This research underscores the importance of integrating cognitive strategies with functional applications in language teaching to address the dual challenges of linguistic acquisition and cultural adaptation. By situating German within the broader context of global linguistic dynamics, the study offers insights into how learners navigate and negotiate multilingual communication. These findings have implications for curriculum design, teaching methodologies, and policy-making to promote German as a vital means of global communication.

Abstract

Revitalization in Article 26 paragraph (3) of Law Number 5 of 2017 supports the preservation and strengthening of local cultural values through traditional arts. This study aims to reveal the representation of cultural values in traditional wayang golek performances using a critical discourse analysis approach based on Norman Fairclough's model. This study employs qualitative research in the form of critical discourse analysis. The analysis focuses on four discourse elements found in the literary aspects of wayang golek puppetry: murwa, nyandra, antawacana, and tembang. Each discourse element is elaborated through Fairclough's three dimensions of analysis: text, discourse practice, and socio-cultural practice. The results show that murwa conveys religious and moral messages, reminding the audience of the importance of their relationship with God and nature. Nyandra illustrates wisdom in facing life and challenges, while antawacana voices criticism of social and political injustices, emphasizing the importance of honesty in governance. Tembang, sung by the sinden, reinforces moral and spiritual messages, encouraging the audience to maintain harmony in life. This study provides insights into the significance of wayang golek performances as a medium for teaching cultural values and moral lessons within Sundanese society.

Abstract

This study investigates the use and preservation of the Ende language in Ende Regency, East Nusa Tenggara. The methodology employed includes qualitative analysis of data collected through observations, interviews, and literature reviews. The findings indicate that although the Ende language has many speakers, its usage has significantly declined, particularly among the younger generation who prefer to use Indonesian or foreign languages. The Ende language is still used in daily communication by only 40% of children and 30% of teenagers. Migration, media influence, and a lack of community awareness regarding the importance of regional languages are all factors contributing to this decline. The study concludes that the government, educational institutions, and the community must collaborate to preserve the Ende language. This research fills a gap in previous studies on the preservation of local languages and provides practical implications for educational and cultural policies.
