Abstract

Hypertension is a chronic disease that requires long-term medication adherence to prevent more serious complications. However, there is still a high level of non-compliance among hypertension patients, which may worsen their condition. One way to improve compliance is through health education based on animated videos, which can enhance patients' understanding and motivation. This study aims to analyze the effect of animated video education on medication adherence and blood pressure control in hypertensive patients at Sultan Agung Islamic Hospital Semarang. The study used a quasi-experimental design with a pretest-posttest control group design. The sample consisted of 38 respondents selected through purposive sampling, divided into two groups: the intervention group (n=19) and the control group (n=19). The intervention group received animated video education, while the control group only underwent observation. Adherence was measured using the MMAS-8 questionnaire, and blood pressure was measured using a sphygmomanometer. Data analysis was performed using the Wilcoxon, McNemar, and Mann-Whitney tests to examine differences between groups. The results showed a significant increase in medication adherence and a reduction in both systolic and diastolic blood pressure in the intervention group compared to the control group (p<0.05). These findings suggest that animated video education is effective in improving medication adherence and helping control blood pressure in hypertensive patients. Therefore, animated video education can be recommended as a nursing education strategy to improve medication adherence and hypertension management.

Abstract

Cancer is one of the leading causes of morbidity and mortality in Indonesia. Chemotherapy treatment often causes both physical and psychological side effects, which can reduce the patient's quality of life. Various factors, such as family support, economic status, education level, and knowledge, are suspected to influence the quality of life of cancer patients undergoing chemotherapy. This study aims to analyze the factors associated with the quality of life of cancer patients undergoing chemotherapy at Sultan Agung Islamic Hospital Semarang. This study used a non-experimental quantitative design with a correlational approach. Data were collected using questionnaires distributed to 84 respondents undergoing chemotherapy at the hospital. Bivariate analysis was performed using the Chi-Square test to examine the relationship between factors that are suspected to affect the quality of life of patients. The results showed that family support, economic status, education level, and knowledge level were significantly related to the quality of life of cancer patients. Specifically, the p-values obtained were 0.035 for family support, 0.000 for economic status, 0.036 for education level, and 0.049 for knowledge level. These findings indicate that social, economic, and educational factors play a crucial role in improving the quality of life of cancer patients undergoing chemotherapy. Therefore, special attention should be given to family support, knowledge enhancement, and better access to economic resources for cancer patients. As a result, their quality of life, especially during chemotherapy, can be improved. Keywords: quality of life, family support, economic status, education level, knowledge level.

Abstract

Stroke patients often experience mobility impairments, which increase the risk of developing pressure ulcers (decubitus). Pressure ulcers are a common complication for patients with limited mobility, especially in the ICU. One intervention that can be used to reduce the risk of pressure ulcers is back massage using olive oil. This study aims to analyze the effect of back massage using olive oil on reducing the risk of pressure ulcers in stroke patients in the ICU at Sultan Agung Hospital. This study used a pre-experimental design with a one-group pretest-posttest approach, involving 17 respondents who received back massage using olive oil. The results showed that most respondents were aged 56-65 years (35.3%), the majority were male (70.6%), with comorbidities such as diabetes mellitus (52.9%), and the length of hospitalization was 3-5 days. Before the intervention, most respondents were categorized as being at moderate risk based on the Braden scale; however, after the intervention, the majority were no longer at risk of pressure ulcers. The Wilcoxon test showed a p-value of 0.001, indicating that back massage using olive oil had a significant effect on reducing the risk of pressure ulcers. In conclusion, back massage using olive oil is effective in reducing the risk of pressure ulcers in stroke patients in the ICU. Therefore, this technique can be used as an alternative intervention to prevent the occurrence of pressure ulcers in stroke patients.

Abstract

Anomalous positioning is an abnormal position of the fetal vertex (with the small fontanelle as a marker) relative to the maternal pelvis. Oblique malposition is a cause of maternal mortality rate (MMR) of 3-10%. Obesity in pregnancy is a condition characterized by an imbalance between body weight and height. According to WHO data, the prevalence of obesity in 2021 was 340 million, with data in Central Java province reaching 6.62%. In Brebes Regency, the figure was 20.51% (2019). In the Bumiayu Community Health Center, data on obesity in pregnant women reached 63 in 2022. This study aims to provide comprehensive midwifery care for pregnant women, childbirth, postpartum, newborns, and family planning for Mrs. N, 23, with malposition and obesity. This study used a qualitative descriptive method with a comprehensive case study approach. Based on the comprehensive midwifery care provided to Mrs. N, 23, with malposition and obesity, the pregnancy outcome was found to be grade I. Her gestational age was not commensurate with her gestational age. Delivery was performed by vaginal delivery. No problems were found during newborn care up to 28 days. No problems were found during the postpartum period. Mrs. N chose intrauterine contraception (IUD) during pregnancy, but her husband did not allow it due to religious reasons. Appropriate midwifery care during pregnancy, childbirth, newborn care, postpartum care, and family planning is crucial for the health of both mother and baby. This allows early detection of risk factors, preventing potential complications, and reducing maternal and infant mortality.

Abstract

Homogeneous leukoplakia is a mucosal lesion that is mostly white in color with a thin, flat surface that cannot be scraped off, most commonly found on the buccal mucosa, tongue, and floor of the mouth. In contrast to non-homogeneous leukoplakia, which appears white and red, and is nodular, speckled, or granular, non-homogeneous leukoplakia has a higher risk of malignant transformation. However, homogeneous leukoplakia is more commonly encountered than the non-homogeneous type. This article aims to report the management and implementation of communication, information, and education (CIE) in a suspected case of homogeneous leukoplakia in a 20-year-old woman. The patient presented to the Soelastri Dental and Oral Hospital in Surakarta with a complaint of a white patch on the tip of her tongue that had been present for six months. The patient had previously undergone scraping with gauze and betadine and was given antibiotics and mouthwash, but there was no significant change. Intraoral examination revealed a white patch on the dorsum of the tongue with a velvety surface, well-defined borders, asymptomatic, soft consistency, and rough texture. The management of this case included a thorough oral cavity examination, as well as providing detailed CIE about the condition experienced by the patient, including the importance of eliminating risk factors and reducing the likelihood of malignant transformation. The patient was also advised to undergo supportive testing, including biopsy, to confirm the diagnosis. In conclusion, homogeneous leukoplakia is a lesion that is mostly white, thin, flat, and cannot be scraped off. Management focuses on appropriate CIE, managing the existing lesions, eliminating causal factors, and monitoring the risk of malignant transformation. The implementation of CIE is effective in improving patient understanding and supporting patient involvement in managing the condition, thereby minimizing complications and long-term risks.

Abstract

Recurrent aphthous stomatitis (RAS) is a common inflammatory condition of the oral mucosa characterized by round or oval ulcers with well-defined reddish borders and a shallow base covered by a grayish or yellowish fibrinous pseudomembrane. RAS is generally classified into three clinical types—minor, major, and herpetiform based on the size, number, and duration of the lesions. Several factors contribute to its occurrence, including bacterial infections such as Streptococcus sanguis, immune system dysfunctions, and nutritional deficiencies involving iron, vitamin B12, and folic acid. Other potential triggers include local trauma, hormonal or endocrine imbalances, psychological stress, and allergic reactions. Among these, anemia due to deficiencies in iron, folate, or vitamin B12 is considered an important etiopathogenic factor, although its exact role has not been fully clarified. The management of RAS primarily focuses on symptom relief, promoting faster ulcer healing, and preventing recurrence through both topical and systemic approaches. Effective treatment often includes improving nutritional intake, maintaining oral hygiene, and addressing underlying systemic or psychological conditions. Understanding the multifactorial causes of RAS is crucial in developing comprehensive strategies for prevention and long-term management of this recurrent oral lesion.
