Abstract

This research explores the pivotal role of defense contractors in shaping defense policy and their significant impact on national security dynamics. Using qualitative research methods, with an emphasis on secondary data analysis, the study synthesizes findings from government reports, academic literature, and industry analyses. Key findings reveal the considerable influence of defense contractors’ lobbying activities on defense budget allocations and procurement policies, often redirecting resources toward projects that align with their technological expertise and profit motives. Additionally, defense contractors play a crucial role in shaping defense research and development priorities, driving innovation in areas such as cybersecurity, missile defense systems, and unmanned technologies. Ethically, the revolving door phenomenon between defense contractors and government officials raises concerns about potential conflicts of interest, undermining impartial decision-making and public trust. This research offers a comprehensive understanding of the strategic implications of contractor influence on defense policy, highlighting the need for greater transparency, accountability, and balanced competition in defense procurement. By illuminating these dynamics, the study contributes to policy discussions aimed at promoting ethical governance and ensuring the integrity of national security.

Abstract

This study aims to identify weaknesses in the oversight of excavation C mining activities by the East Kutai Regency Government, which contribute to soil degradation and alterations to natural landscapes. These mining operations result in large, water-filled pits that become breeding grounds for mosquitoes and disease, while also causing air pollution during the dry season. The research employs a qualitative approach, combining a literature review with interviews. The findings reveal that, first, excavation C mining disrupts ecosystem balance through the overexploitation of natural resources and fosters illegal mining activities. Second, challenges in monitoring excavation C mining involve the Satpol PP (Civil Service Police Unit) as the primary enforcement body, along with the enforcement of local regulations designed to minimize environmental damage. However, a lack of coordination between the East Kutai Regency Satpol PP and the East Kalimantan Provincial Police complicates regulatory enforcement and community protection efforts. This study recommends implementing strict sanctions against companies that illegally damage the environment to improve oversight effectiveness and promote environmental sustainability.

Abstract

This study aims to investigate the role of water resource management in Balikpapan City, Indonesia, focusing on how the city government implements sustainable development and water governance practices. Using a qualitative approach and literature review, this research examines Balikpapan’s strategies for addressing water challenges amid climate change, population growth, and its role within the Indonesian Capital City (Ibu Kota Nusantara, IKN) area. Findings reveal that Balikpapan’s regional development plan has adopted a sustainable approach, emphasizing prevention and mitigation efforts to secure long-term water resources. In addition to constructing new infrastructure, Balikpapan is exploring collaboration with neighboring administrative areas to ensure a reliable water supply in the future. Nonetheless, there is a need for stronger partnerships with the private sector, especially to support technological innovations that, while potentially costly, could enhance water management. Public participation is also essential to prevent social conflicts and to ensure that development progresses fairly and inclusively. By engaging diverse stakeholders—including the government, private sector, and community—in planning and implementation, Balikpapan and IKN Nusantara can work towards sustainable development goals that prioritize environmental responsibility and meet the needs of all communities. This collaborative approach can foster sustainable, equitable solutions that align with global goals, supporting a resilient and water-secure future for Balikpapan and its surrounding areas.

Abstract

This article examines the women's resistance movement in Padarincang District, Serang Regency, against the development of a Geothermal Power Plant, analyzed through an ecofeminist perspective. As human dependence on energy grows, there is increasing pressure to find alternative energy sources, such as geothermal energy, to meet daily needs. The proposed Geothermal Power Plant in Padarincang is part of Indonesia’s commitment to achieving Net Zero Emissions (NZE). However, local resistance emerged due to concerns over the potential economic and environmental impacts of the project. Using qualitative research methods and a case study approach, this study explores how women in Padarincang District contributed to the ecological movement. The findings reveal that the rejection stemmed from a lack of slot thailand community engagement and socialization about the development, leading to fears of environmental degradation. Many locals did not understand that geothermal energy could offer new opportunities for renewable energy. The resistance, particularly from women, gave rise to an ecofeminist movement addressing these environmental issues. This research contributes to the literature on the intersection of gender and environmental concerns, particularly by highlighting the role of women in such movements.

Abstract

This research examines the exploration of ecofeminism in the resistance of women in Batu Kajang Village and indigenous people in Muara Kate Komam against the hauling activities of PT Mantimin Coal Mining (MCM). This resistance was triggered by Batu Kajang women's concerns about the potential negative impacts of hauling, such as threats to children's safety, infrastructure damage, and increased ecological damage. The initial phase of this resistance was marked by local women's establishment of guard posts, aiming to safeguard the surrounding environment. Subsequently, the indigenous people of Muara Kate reinforced the border guard of East Kalimantan and South Kalimantan in response to the growing number of casualties resulting from the hauling activities of the company above. This research employs a qualitative approach, incorporating a phenomenological analysis and drawing upon event documentation, articles, news, journals, books, and in-depth interviews. The results suggest that ecofeminism is gaining traction as a significant motivating factor in the resistance to coal mining. Indigenous women play a pivotal role in integrating environmental concerns with their efforts to defend their social and cultural rights, which are inextricably linked to their customary lands. These communal lands hold immense economic, social, and cultural value for indigenous communities, and their destruction poses a serious threat to their survival. It is recommended that the government consider ways to support Indigenous women, such as by creating opportunities for their involvement in decision-making processes and ensuring the protection of their rights through responsive and equitable policies. The recognition of Indigenous women's role in this resistance and support from the government could contribute to strengthening efforts to protect their environment and cultural sustainability.

Abstract

This study aims to determine the dynamics of the implementation of the BPJS/Indonesian Social Security Administering Body for Employment claim service system in the Old Age Security (JHT) program. The researcher also aims to analyze the factors inhibiting the online BPJS Employment claim process using the Jamsostek Mobile (JMO) application in Palembang City. This research used is a qualitative method with a descriptive approach. The data sources used are primary data sources in the form of interviews, secondary data sources in the form of journals, and books. The results of the research conducted, the implementation of JHT claims through online applications has been running in accordance with the digitization system. However, there are still obstacles that hinder the implementation of claims, namely less than optimal socialization to BPJS participants regarding how to claim through online applications, thus causing delays in the claim process due to incomplete documents. In addition, researchers saw obstacles that participants were not accustomed to using online applications, failed to upload documents during registration, and failed due to unstable participant internet networks. Therefore, in implementing online claim services, there needs to be a collaborative effort between BPJS and various parties so that BPJS deserves to be a protector for workers in Indonesia.

Abstract

This articel analyzes the role of ecofeminism in the activism of Women Farmers' Groups in Serang City in shaping ecological spaces through empowerment-based urban farming. The urgency of this research is grounded in the persistent patriarchal culture that confines women to the domestic sphere, despite many being in their productive years. Empowerment through Women Farmers' Groups serves as a form of resistance by creating ecological spaces that enable women to become independent and self-sufficient without leaving their homes. This article is conducted in Serang City, where land conversion into residential areas has resulted in numerous idle lands that have the potential to be utilized for urban farming. Employing a feminist critical ethnographic approach, the study finds that urban farming within Women Farmers' Groups fosters environmental awareness based on ecofeminist principles. This process occurs through knowledge reproduction facilitated by socialization and training, contributing to both household food security and environmental conservation. However, the lack of government support has led to the unsustainability of some Women Farmers' Groups  due to insufficient monitoring and assistance. The findings of this study are expected to serve as an evaluation tool for optimizing Women Farmers' Groups programs, ultimately strengthening food security and enhancing women's participation in environmental conservation through the creation of ecological spaces.

Abstract

This study examines the impact of empowerment programs and business assistance on mustahiq welfare in Amil Zakat Institutions in Banten, with business growth as a mediating variable. A total of 160 respondents who have participated in the empowerment program were selected for analysis. This study uses the Structural Equation Modeling-Partial Least Square (SEM-PLS) approach to test the relationship between these variables. There is a significant influence between zakat empowerment on mustahiq welfare, business assistance on mustahiq welfare, and business assistance on business development, while business development on mustahiq welfare and zakat empowerment on business development do not have a significant influence. The need to increase the Zakat empowerment program is considered very important because Zakat empowerment can improve the welfare of mustahiq up to 27.1%. However, the contribution of business growth to mustahiq welfare is structurally still low. Nevertheless, increasing business growth is still considered important because it can improve mustahiq welfare.
