Abstract

Abstract

Abstract

The Balaroa area in Palu City suffered severe damage due to liquefaction caused by the 2018 earthquake. According to Regional Regulation No. 10 of 2019, the area was designated as a red zone, where reconstruction is prohibited. This disaster led to parts of the area being permanently restricted from redevelopment, requiring appropriate management strategies to provide solutions for the affected community. This study aims to formulate an ecological resilience-based management strategy for the red zone in the post-disaster context. Using a descriptive qualitative case study approach, the research involved analyzing the physical environmental conditions, conducting interviews with experts and local residents, and reviewing literature related to ecological resilience and red zone management following the Balaroa liquefaction disaster. The findings show that red zones can be optimized as multifunctional green spaces, including memorial parks, water catchment areas, and disaster education zones. This approach supports not only ecological recovery but also strengthens social interaction within the community. Furthermore, the study identifies the community’s social and economic capacities, risk perceptions, and resilience practices such as disaster preparedness and sustainability. With the right management strategy, red zones can be used productively without violating existing regulations. Post-disaster red zones can serve not only as conservation spaces but also as symbols of resilience and recovery.

Abstract

Urban street trees provide essential ecosystem services, including thermal regulation, carbon sequestration, and aesthetic enhancement. However, poorly maintained or structurally compromised trees pose significant safety risks, such as branch failure or complete collapse. This study explores the integration of tree risk assessment into the design of urban street corridors to improve safety and sustainability. Field observations were conducted along Salak street and Pangrango street in Bogor, Indonesia, using the Visual Tree Assessment (VTA) method and the International Society of Arboriculture (ISA) Basic Tree Risk Assessment protocol. Seven sample trees were evaluated for structural defects, site conditions, and potential targets. Results indicate that trees located along road edges exhibit higher risk levels compared to those in open spaces, primarily due to restricted root zones, codominant stems, and excessive crown size. Approximately 70% of roadside trees fall within medium to high-risk categories, with imminent failure observed in cases of severe trunk inclination and root damage. Recommended mitigation strategies include crown pruning to reduce load, removal of hazardous codominant stems, relocation of nearby infrastructure, and routine monitoring at monthly intervals. Integrating tree risk management into corridor planning ensures that urban green infrastructure remains both functional and safe, supporting long-term resilience and public safety

Abstract

People with visual impairments often develop a high level of independence in their living environment due to repeated daily interactions. However, this independence is often achieved through personal adaptation rather than intentional architectural design support. This study aims to identify residential design criteria that improve orientation and navigation for the visually impaired through non-visual strategies. A descriptive qualitative method was used, combining a review of national and international literature (2020-2024) and in-depth interviews with three visually impaired respondents. The results of the study formulated specific design criteria that include tactile elements, consistent spatial organization, the use of materials with different textures, and optimal lighting for users with low vision. These findings provide guidance for architects to create more inclusive and accessible housing.

Abstract

The high intensity of direct solar radiation on buildings in tropical regions makes shading device design one of the most effective passive strategies for achieving optimal thermal comfort and building energy efficiency. However, the reality of current design practice in determining shading device angles tends to be generic and has not been grounded in a thorough analysis of solar path trajectories or local climatic characteristics based on ideal angle calculations. This study employs a quantitative approach through solar path analysis and solar radiation simulation across varying shading device angles on eight facade orientations of buildings in Kendari City. The findings indicate that a 30° angle is the most effective for primary facades (north, south, west, and southwest), providing ideal shading performance during the critical period of 12:00–15:45 throughout the year. Nevertheless, facades receiving dominant solar exposure during morning hours - such as the southeast, east, and northeast orientations - require larger angles of 50°–55° to achieve effective shading performance. This study contributes a set of shading device angle recommendations grounded in local climatic data, which can serve as a design reference for tropical buildings in Kendari City.

Abstract

Village- and community based tourism has increasingly been promoted as a strategy to ensure a more equitable distribution of development benefits, particularly in archipelagic regions such as Banggai Kepulauan Regency, Indonesia. This study examines tourist visitation trends in the Danau Paisu Pok Pantai Poganda Cluster during the 2022–2024 period, determines its position within the regency’s priority destination system using the Tourism Area Life Cycle (TALC) framework, and analyzes management implications from a community-based tourism (CBT) perspective, including the strengthening of regional tourism data systems, through a descriptive exploratory approach based on secondary data. The findings reveal a rapid increase in tourist arrivals, from 20,555 visitors in 2022 to 49,696 in 2023, reaching 51,669 visits by September 2024. This growth places the cluster in the growth phase of the TALC model and indicates a functional transition from an emerging destination toward an advanced tourism cluster, characterized by a visitation surge exceeding 140%, consistent official promotion, strengthened policy support, and a contribution of approximately 47.39% to total tourist arrivals in Banggai Kepulauan Regency in 2024. Institutional strengthening at the village level particularly the designation of Luk Panenteng Village as a developing tourism destination along with community empowerment through CBT, emerges as a key factor supporting the sustainable management of the tourism cluster.

Abstract

GeoAI technology, which integrates artificial intelligence with spatial analysis, offers a novel approach to extracting urban object information from high-resolution imagery. This study applies Mask R-CNN with a ResNet-50 backbone architecture to detect vehicle objects in orthophoto imagery derived from the processing of 100 UAV photographs over an urban area in Switzerland. A total of 80 vehicle objects were annotated and partitioned into training (70%), validation (15%), and testing (15%) datasets. Model evaluation was conducted using a multi-threshold Intersection over Union (IoU) approach at values of ≥0.5, ≥0.75, and ≥0.95, and analyzed through a confusion matrix alongside Precision, Recall, F1-score, and Mean Average Precision (mAP) metrics. The results demonstrate that the model achieved Precision and Recall scores of 1.00 at IoU ≥0.5; however, performance declined at stricter thresholds, with an aggregate mAP of 0.56, indicating moderate overall performance. These findings suggest that the model is effective for macro-spatial analytical needs such as vehicle count estimation and distribution mapping, yet remains insufficiently stable for applications requiring high geometric precision. Conceptually, this study underscores the importance of multi-threshold evaluation in the application of deep learning for urban spatial analysis, while demonstrating the potential of GeoAI integration in data-driven urban planning.

Abstract

Traffic and transportation are two interrelated aspects. The movement of people toward activity centers impacts the transportation system, where the concentration of activities leads to a need for transportation infrastructure and facilities to support this movement. This study aims to analyze the generation and distribution from eight functional areas studied through interviews, documentation, and literature review with 300 respondents. The data collection was conducted over two days, including a holiday and a workday. The results of this study are findings showed that the travel movement generation and distribution from the 300 respondents amounted to 385 movements across different origin and destination zones. Based on the Origin-Destination Matrix, land use management in Pajukukang District designated Baruga Village as a trade and service zone as well as a public space zone, Papanloe Village as an industrial zone, Borongloe Village as a worship zone, and Pajukukang Village as a health, port, and educational zone.
