Abstract

Rhinitis is one of the health conditions commonly found in the community, with a high prevalence both globally and in Indonesia. These disorders have a significant impact on an individual's quality of life, interfere with daily activities, and have the potential to lead to complications such as sinusitis and asthma. Educational efforts through health counseling are an important strategy in improving public knowledge, attitudes, and behaviors related to the prevention and management of rhinitis. This counseling activity aims to expand public understanding of rhinitis, including definitions, risk factors, symptoms, preventive measures, and self-management that can be applied in daily life. The methods used include interactive lectures, group discussions, and question and answer sessions, with the target of the general public who have risks or complaints related to rhinitis. The results of the activity showed a significant increase in participants' understanding of the condition of rhinitis and the importance of preventive measures. Participants showed a higher awareness of the importance of maintaining environmental cleanliness, avoiding exposure to allergens, and implementing a healthy lifestyle. In addition, there was an increase in participants' proactivity in seeking health information and a commitment to implement preventive behaviors consistently. This counseling has a positive impact on improving public health literacy and encouraging constructive changes in attitudes in dealing with rhinitis. It is hoped that similar activities can be carried out in a sustainable and widespread manner, so as to contribute to reducing the prevalence of rhinitis and improving the quality of life of the community in general. Community-based counseling has proven to be effective as a promotive and preventive approach in handling chronic and recurrent diseases such as rhinitis.

Abstract

This research was carried out using a qualitative method through a direct survey conducted in Tangga Batu Village. The main goal of this study is to utilize corn cob waste into an alternative fuel product in the form of briquettes that is more environmentally friendly. Corn cobs are one of the abundant agricultural wastes, but they are often not used optimally. Through simple innovations, this waste can be processed into alternative energy sources that have economic value while having added value for the surrounding community. The process of making briquettes begins with the preparation of equipment which includes a kiln, mold, drying container, mash tool, strainer, and scale. The main ingredient is corn cobs that are first dried in the sun for 3–4 days to reduce the moisture content by 10–20%. Additional materials used are tapioca flour as an adhesive, small amounts of diesel, and water. The next stage is to compose the corn cobs in the burning pit for 20–30 minutes until they become charcoal. The charcoal is then scraped using a simple tool and sifted to separate the fine and rough parts. The fine charcoal is mixed with a starch adhesive from tapioca flour, then molded using a simple mold and compacted through a pressing process to produce good quality briquettes. Next, the briquettes are dried in the sun for 2-3 days until they are completely dry and ready to be used as fuel instead of wood or kerosene. The results of the study show that corn cob waste has great potential to be used as an alternative fuel. In addition to being environmentally friendly, these products also contribute to reducing dependence on fossil fuels.

Abstract

Limited knowledge and utilization of digital technology in the fisheries and plantation sectors remains a major obstacle for the people of Samo Village, South Halmahera Regency, the majority of whom work as fishermen and farmers. This results in low productivity, limited access to information, and less than optimal development of micro-enterprises based on local potential. This community service activity aims to introduce and train the use of Fishbrain, Plantix, and ChatGPT applications relevant to local community needs. The activity implementation method includes three main stages: the preparation phase, which involves coordination with village officials and the development of training materials; the implementation phase, which involves socialization and hands-on training; and the evaluation phase, which involves discussions, reflections, and Q&A sessions with participants. The results of the activity demonstrated a significant increase in participants' understanding and skills in utilizing digital technology. The Fishbrain application has been proven to assist fishermen in determining more potential fishing locations based on global community data, while Plantix is useful in detecting plant diseases, providing treatment recommendations, and increasing crop yields. Meanwhile, ChatGPT is used by the community as a virtual assistant to support information searches, innovation ideas, product marketing strategies, and digital-based small business planning. The participants' enthusiasm was evident in their active involvement throughout the training, their eagerness to try the applications independently, and their ability to repeat the three applications' core functions. In conclusion, this training activity not only broadened the community's digital knowledge and skills but also encouraged a shift in mindset toward utilizing technology as a means to improve well-being. With the knowledge gained, the Samo Village community is expected to be more adaptive to technological developments, enabling the sustainable development of the fisheries, plantations, and local micro-enterprises sectors.

Abstract

Physiotherapy plays an important role in promotive and preventive efforts through education for the community, including children’s health posts (posyandu). Children aged 1–5 years often experience eating difficulties that reduce appetite, increasing the risk of malnutrition and growth retardation. Low appetite is often related to oral-motor function disorders, such as difficulty chewing or swallowing. This activity aimed to increase mothers’ knowledge about oral-motor-sensory stimulation as an effort to improve children’s appetite. The community service program was conducted at Posyandu RW 02, Kota Lama Subdistrict, Malang City, involving 15 mothers or caregivers of toddlers. The method included physiotherapy counseling using interactive discussions and poster media, with knowledge evaluation through pre-test and post-test. The results showed a significant improvement in participants’ knowledge, from 0% in the pre-test to 85% in the post-test. This counseling effectively enhanced mothers’ understanding and practical skills in performing oral-motor-sensory stimulation independently at home. With regular implementation, this stimulation is expected to increase children’s appetite, improve nutritional status, and support optimal growth and development. Moreover, it reinforces the role of physiotherapy in preventing nutritional problems and improving the quality of life of children from an early age.

Abstract

Aging is often accompanied by sleep problems that have a negative impact on the well-being of older adults, such as reducing their quality of daily life and triggering a higher risk of chronic diseases, depression, and cognitive decline. To address this issue, the physiotherapy team held an educational program at the Arjosari Village ILP in Malang City, which aimed to equip older adults with knowledge about the value of quality sleep. The material was delivered through simple brochures, two-way discussion sessions, and assessments through initial and final tests. A total of 15 people participated, and from the opening discussion, about 80 percent of them admitted to having frequent sleep disturbances. Before the event, a survey showed that their understanding was still minimal, especially regarding what healthy sleep is, the triggers of sleep disturbances, the benefits of good sleep, the signs of sleep disturbances, and steps to overcome them. After the counseling, there was a significant increase, with the level of understanding reaching more than 86 percent on all topics. These results prove that community-based educational approaches such as this are very effective as a means of empowerment and early prevention. Activities such as this should be made a routine to support the overall health of the elderly.

Abstract

Prenatal exercise plays a vital role in maintaining the physical and mental well-being of pregnant women. This activity helps reduce common discomforts such as back pain, enhances stamina, and strengthens pelvic muscles in preparation for childbirth. However, knowledge among pregnant women regarding safe and effective exercises remains limited. The lack of structured information often leads to uncertainty and discourages participation in physical activities during pregnancy. This condition highlights the need for well-directed and comprehensive physiotherapy education. This community service program was conducted in Building B of the Kedungkandang Community Health Center and involved 15 participants. A holistic approach was employed, combining interactive counseling to convey the theoretical benefits and safety of exercise, group discussions to share experiences, and practical demonstrations. The exercises demonstrated were carefully selected to be simple, safe, and easy to perform independently at home, ensuring continuity beyond the educational sessions. The results indicated a significant improvement in participants’ knowledge, as evidenced by the comparison between pre-test and post-test scores. This improvement reflects the growing awareness among pregnant women of the importance of maintaining fitness through structured and safe physical activity. Continuous education through a community physiotherapy approach is necessary to ensure consistent implementation of prenatal exercise and to support long-term behavioral changes toward better maternal health.
