Abstract

Diabetes mellitus is a chronic disease that lasts a long time and requires high adherence and self-discipline to carry out comprehensive self-care management to control blood glucose levels and prevent further complications. The practice of self-management requires knowledge or literacy and a positive mindset that is supported by good self-confidence for DM sufferers to be able to do it. Several studies have only examined aspects of physical intervention, such as providing physical activity (DM gymnastics) and education on medication adherence, but there are still few interventions that provide mindset strengthening in the form of self-talk affirmations in order to form a positive perspective on the perception of the benefits of preventing DM complications in sufferers. The study's objective was to ascertain whether using self-talk affirmations would improve DM patients' perceptions of the benefits of preventing complications in Pekalongan Regency, Central Java, Indonesia. 158 individuals with DM participated in this study using a cross-sectional quantitative research approach and a pre-post test sample design. A questionnaire was utilized for data collection, and a Paired T-test for data analysis, which assessed patients' perceptions of the benefits of preventing DM complications either before and after receiving affirmative self-talk therapies. Patients' perceptions of the benefits of preventing DM complications are influenced by the results of self-talk and self-affirmation interventions; there is a difference in the mean score of perceived benefits before and after the intervention. For patients with DM who are of working age, self-talk affirmations might be included to a list of self-management interventions.

Abstract

This study explores the role of health education by community nurses in reducing smoking habits among adolescents through qualitative interview methods. The background of this problem is rooted in the long-term health impact of smoking habits, which are often influenced by factors such as peer influence and advertising, as well as a lack of knowledge about the dangers of smoking. The purpose of this study is to understand how health education can affect changes in adolescents' smoking knowledge, attitudes, and behaviors, as well as to assess the role of social support from the family. The method used was in-depth interviews with 20 adolescents who had participated in a health education program guided by a community nurse. The interview data was analyzed using thematic analysis techniques to identify key patterns and themes. The results showed that health education significantly increased adolescents' knowledge about the dangers of smoking and improved their attitudes towards the habit. Teens also reported gaining practical skills to resist the offer of smoking, and family support played an important role in their success in quitting smoking. The implications of this study emphasize the importance of integrating health education with family support to increase program effectiveness. Health education programs by community nurses must be continued and expanded, involving other elements of society, and adapted to the needs of adolescents and technological developments. Support from various parties, including government policies and health agencies, is critical to strengthening these programs and creating an environment that supports the overall health of adolescents Keywords : Health Education, Community Nurses, Smoking, Adolescents

Abstract

Preterm birth is a serious global health problem, given the high morbidity and mortality rates in infants born before 37 weeks gestation. Preterm infants are at high risk of various health complications, including respiratory distress and developmental delays. One of the main risk factors affecting preterm birth is maternal malnutrition. Malnutrition during pregnancy can impair fetal development and the function of the placenta, which plays an important role in providing the fetus with the nutrients and oxygen it needs. Deficiencies in essential nutrients, such as protein, iron, calcium and folic acid, increase the risk of preterm birth. In addition, low socioeconomic conditions, limited access to nutritious food, and lack of nutrition knowledge also contribute to malnutrition in pregnant women. This study used a literature review method to examine the relationship between malnutrition in pregnant women and the risk of preterm birth. Reviewing relevant scientific sources, this study aims to deepen the understanding of the impact of malnutrition on pregnancy and provide recommendations for effective nutrition interventions to reduce the risk of preterm birth and improve maternal and infant health.

Abstract

Labor is a critical moment in the life of both mother and baby, often accompanied by physical and emotional challenges. Family support, whether emotional, physical, or informational, plays an important role in influencing the quality of the birth experience and health outcomes. This study used a qualitative approach with literature review as the main data collection technique. This study aims to explore the role of family support in the labor process and its implications for maternal and infant well-being. The literature study approach was used to identify and analyze various research, theories, and empirical reports relevant to the topic. The study results show that emotional support from family can reduce maternal anxiety, increase a sense of security, and improve the overall labor experience. Physical support, such as massaging or helping the mother move, contributes to a smoother labor process and minimizes the need for medical intervention. Informational support helps mothers understand the stages of labor and make better decisions regarding health care. In addition, family support improves the quality of care provided to the baby, helps the mother to be more responsive to the baby's needs, and supports a strong emotional bond between mother and baby. The implications of these findings emphasize the importance of family involvement in childbirth and the postpartum period to improve the well-being of mothers and infants. Health workers are advised to encourage family participation and provide adequate education on the role of family support, to ensure that mothers and infants receive optimal support.

Abstract

Globally, prematurity stands as one of the leading causes of death in children under the age of five, making premature childbirth a significant concern worldwide, including in Indonesia. One of the key contributors to preterm labor is maternal stress, which triggers the activation of the hypothalamic-pituitary-adrenal (HPA) axis in both the mother and the fetus. As a preventive measure, complementary therapies such as yoga have been explored for their potential to alleviate stress and reduce the risk of premature labor. This article aims to examine the impact of yoga therapy on stress management in pregnant women, specifically in relation to preventing preterm births. The data for this study were gathered from electronic databases including Google Scholar, PubMed, and Science Direct, focusing on original research articles that explored the use of yoga therapy to manage stress in the context of premature labor. The search identified a total of 600 initial studies, with an additional 100 articles included later. After applying inclusion and exclusion criteria, 630 studies were excluded, and 70 articles were reviewed in full, resulting in 11 publications being utilized as references. The findings suggest a significant effect of yoga therapy in reducing the incidence of premature labor, highlighting its potential as a beneficial intervention for stress management in pregnant women.
