Abstract

Malnutrition and stunting are significant public health issues that also impact the quality and capacity of human resources. Stunting, a chronic condition caused by prolonged inadequate nutritional intake, results in growth disorders, including shorter-than-average height and impaired brain development. These challenges can affect a child’s academic achievement, productivity, and creativity in later life. Addressing stunting requires comprehensive, collaborative strategies involving various stakeholders. This qualitative descriptive study examines the use of the Trengginas application as an innovative tool to detect and address stunting during the COVID-19 pandemic. Developed by the Semarang City Health Office, the Trengginas application allows stunting detection without requiring direct physical interaction with patients, aligning with pandemic restrictions. Data were collected through interviews with nutrition officers at the Mangkang Health Center, who are responsible for implementing the application. The study found that the Trengginas application requires minimal technical resources: a mobile phone, internet access, a WhatsApp account, and entry of the Population Identification Number and Family Card data. Nutrition officers play a central role in operating the application, which facilitates remote monitoring and intervention for stunting cases. This research highlights the potential of digital health innovations like the Trengginas application in addressing stunting challenges, especially during restrictive conditions such as a pandemic. By leveraging technology, the application supports efficient data collection and intervention delivery, making it a valuable tool in the effort to reduce stunting and improve child health outcomes in Semarang City

Abstract

Acne is a common dermatological condition that negatively impacts facial appearance and self-confidence, often hindering daily activities. Bamboo charcoal derived from Dendrocalamus asper (Betung bamboo) is known to contain activated carbon, which has the ability to adsorb impurities and cleanse clogged pores, potentially reducing blackheads and acne. This study aimed to evaluate the potential of Betung bamboo charcoal as a facial mask through laboratory tests (pH, antioxidant, and antimicrobial activity), organoleptic assessments (texture, aroma, and adhesion), and hedonic tests (user preferences). A quantitative experimental approach was employed in this research. The findings revealed that the mask preparation had a pH value of 8.4, an antioxidant activity of 0.491%, and no antimicrobial activity against Staphylococcus aureus. Organoleptic evaluation showed that 71% of panelists rated the mask texture as very smooth, 86% identified the aroma as a distinctive bamboo charcoal scent, and 57% considered the mask's adhesive properties acceptable. In the hedonic test, 57% of panelists expressed overall satisfaction with the mask formulation. These results highlight the potential of Betung bamboo charcoal masks as a natural alternative for skin care, particularly for individuals with acne-prone skin. However, further improvements in antimicrobial efficacy are recommended to enhance its functional benefits.

Abstract

This study aims to analyze the impact of caffeine consumption on sleep quality and mental health of students. Caffeine consumption has become a common habit among college students, especially to combat fatigue and increase alertness when facing high academic demands. However, excessive caffeine consumption can risk impairing sleep quality and contributing to mental health problems such as anxiety and depression. This study uses a quantitative approach with a cross-sectional survey design, involving 230 students as randomly selected respondents from various universities in Indonesia. Data were collected through questionnaires that measured caffeine consumption frequency, sleep quality using the Pittsburgh Sleep Quality Index (PSQI), and anxiety and depression levels using Generalized Anxiety Disorder (GAD-7) and Patient Health Questionnaire-9 (PHQ-9). The results of the analysis showed that high caffeine consumption was associated with decreased sleep quality and increased symptoms of anxiety and depression in college students. The study suggests the need for better management of caffeine consumption among college students to support better physical and mental health.

Abstract

Computer Vision Syndrome (CVS) is an eye disorder caused by excessive screen time, which has become increasingly unavoidable in the digital era, particularly among medical students. This study aimed to determine the characteristics of CVS incidence among medical students of Baiturrahmah University, batch of 2023. Employing a descriptive approach, the study included 73 students selected using a purposive sampling technique, with univariate data analysis conducted through the SPSS program. The results revealed that 51 respondents (69.9%) were female, with 59 respondents (80.8%) using more than two devices daily. All respondents (100%) reported daily monitor usage exceeding four hours, categorized as unsafe screen time, and 62 respondents (84.9%) maintained an unsafe viewing distance from their monitors. Despite these findings, the majority of respondents (95.9%) did not experience CVS symptoms based on CVS-Q scores. These results suggest that while prolonged screen time and unsafe device usage are prevalent, they do not necessarily correlate with CVS incidence in this population

Abstract

Anemia in pregnant women is a significant health problem, with adverse effects on the health of the mother and baby. This study aims to identify social and economic factors that affect the incidence of anemia in pregnant women in certain regions. Quantitative approach with cross-sectional design was used to collect data through questionnaires and structured interviews on 200 pregnant women. Factors analyzed include education, family income, type of employment, access to health services, and diet. The results showed that low levels of education, low family income, and limited access to health services were significantly associated with an increased risk of anemia in pregnant women. In addition, social support factors also play an important role in preventing anemia. These findings suggest that social and economic factors interact, with lower education associated with lower incomes, which in turn hinders pregnant women's access to good nutrition and adequate health care. Based on the results of the study, it is suggested that the health policy of pregnant women more emphasis on nutrition education, increased access to health services, and economic empowerment, especially among low-income families. This study provides an important contribution in formulating intervention programs that can reduce the prevalence of anemia in pregnant women in Indonesia.

Abstract

This study aims to identify the factors causing stunting in pregnant women and the preventive efforts made from a public health perspective. Stunting in infants is a significant health issue in Indonesia, with its causes often related to maternal nutrition, health status, and access to healthcare services. The research employs a quantitative method with a cross-sectional survey design. Data was collected through questionnaires distributed to 180 pregnant women registered at community health centers and hospitals. Descriptive and inferential statistical analysis was used to identify the relationship between the causes of stunting and prevention efforts. The results indicate that factors such as poor nutritional status, very young or very old maternal age, and limited access to adequate healthcare significantly contribute to infant stunting. Furthermore, health education programs and the provision of additional food supplements positively impacted the prevention of stunting. This study suggests the need for enhanced prevention efforts through broader education on the importance of maternal nutrition and better access to quality healthcare services to reduce the prevalence of stunting in Indonesia.
