Abstract

The mortality rate of childbearing women in Indonesia is still significantly high. This situation urges the government to take action to overcome the problem by providing and spreading information and raising awareness on maternity health and childcare with the hope it will improve their knowledge and deepen their understanding. As such, antenatal class program is designed to accommodate the goal in surmounting childbearing women mortality issues in the immediate future. This research aims to discover the correlations between pregnant women’s interest and health cadre role on the participation in attending antenatal class. It was conducted in the coverage area of Puskesmas (community clinic) Batu Aji, Batam, from February to July 2019. The research design employs analytic descriptive method with cross-sectional approach by applying simple random sampling technique on the total sample population of 82 pregnant women. The research instrument is in the format of questionnaire. The data analyzing technique employs univariate and bivariate with chi-square where the significance level tolerance ρ-value < (α) 0.05. The findings reveal that the interest to attend the class is notably high with 77 (93.9%) respondents asserting; health cadre role in advocating them to comply is also highly significant with 76 (92.7%) respondents affirming; and the participation of pregnant women in attending the class is 47 (57.3%) respondents confirming in presence. The chi-square findings reveal the correlation between pregnant women’s interest and their participation in attending the class is indicated by ρ-value = 0.018, while the correlation between the health cadre role and the participation in attending the class is indicated by ρ-value = 0.017; these confirm the correlations between pregnant women’s interest and health cadre role on their participation in attending antenatal class. In suggestion, with some insights provided from this research, more health cadres are encouraged to help and motivate pregnant women to attend antenatal class because it can beneficially help improve their health and physical wellness.

Abstract

Based on the report from the S. Parman Health Center on exclusive breastfeeding for infants aged 0-6 months, 26 out of 115 babies (22.6%) received exclusive breastfeeding. In 2019, the number of infants who received exclusive breastfeeding increased but was still far from the target coverage, which was 80%. , namely 32 babies out of 135 babies (23.7%) this is because some mothers do not know about the benefits of exclusive breastfeeding and when is the right time to give complementary feeding (MP ASI). The purpose of this study was to find out the description of the level of education and knowledge of mothers about the provision of complementary feeding to infants at the S Parman health center in Banjarmasin. This research design uses descriptive research method with a sample of 61 people taken by accidental sampling. Data were collected through questionnaire sheets and processed manually in the form of tables, then analyzed both qualitatively and quantitatively. Of the 61 respondents who gave complementary foods to breast milk, 42 people (68.9%) and those who did not provide complementary foods to infants, only 19 people (31.1%) with respondents who had basic education as many as 35 people (59.0 %), who have secondary education are 18 people (29.5%), and those who have higher education are 8 people (11.5%) and respondents who have less knowledge are 22 people (36.1%) and who have knowledge good are 19 people (31.1%), who have sufficient knowledge are 20 people (32.8%). Complementary foods that are right for the baby and the risks that may occur in giving complementary foods to breast milk are too early.

Abstract

The information on benefits of clinical baby massage is not well-spread among our general society. More often than not, many still relegate the baby massage job to a witchdoctor because of lack of awareness of instead trusting the practice in the hand of medical professionals. A mother must be well-educated in doing the baby massage practice before she can later self-perform the job. This research aims to discover the impact of advocating clinical baby massage on the mother’s conduct in self-performing the practice. The research employs pre-experimental design with pretest and posttest one group setting. It took place in BPM (independent practice midwife) Walladatun Islah. The sample population is the mothers visiting the BPM for vaccination. Data collecting technique employs total sampling involving 30 respondents. Data collecting instruments are leaflets and video for independent variable, and observation sheet by check-listing for dependent variable. Data analyzing technique employs paired sample t-test. The findings reveal that from the bivariate test using Kolgomorov-Smirnov method, out of 30 respondents, significant ρ-value = 0.200 > 0.05 indicates both variables’ distributions are normal to proceed to the t-test. The value from both pretest and posttest is 16.603 with significance level of 0.000, indicating it is bigger than t-table (16.603 > 2.045) therefore the hypothesis of the research is tolerable. In conclusion, there is a strong relevance between the advocacy of practicing clinical baby massage and the mother’s conduct in self-performing the job. In suggestion, healthcare workers and professionals are expected to be more active in advocating both pregnant and postpartum women the benefits of clinical baby massage for example during the antenatal care class or visit.

Abstract

Hospitals, apart from medical referral centers, also have the potential to transmit infections which are often referred to as Healthcare Associated Infections (HAIs). HAIs are a major problem faced worldwide and their incidence is increasing. The incidence of HAIs in hospitals in Asian countries is around 3-21% with an average of 9%. In Indonesia, the average incidence of HAIs is around 9.1% higher than in Asian countries. The incidence of HAIs in government hospitals is 55.1%, private hospitals 35.7%, and ABRI hospitals 9.1%. Currently, the incidence of HAIs is used as a benchmark for the quality of hospital services. One of the steps in infection prevention and control is through hand hygiene. The purpose of this study was to determine whether there was a relationship between knowledge and attitudes of health workers on compliance with hand hygiene. This study used an analytical research design with a cross sectional approach and was carried out at the Raja Ahmad Tabib Hospital Tanjungpinang on July 16-30 2019. The sample in this study was 80 respondents with purposive sampling technique. From the results of the study, the majority of health workers have good knowledge (80%), the majority of health workers have good attitudes (77.5%), and most health workers comply with hand hygiene (65%). between knowledge and adherence to hand hygiene where p = 0.000 <0.05 and there is a relationship between attitudes towards compliance with hand hygiene where p = 0.000 <0.05. In conclusion, there is a relationship between knowledge and attitudes of health workers to compliance with hand hygiene. Suggestions that respondents can increase compliance to always do hand hygiene in order to reduce the incidence of HAIs in hospitals.

Abstract

The rapidly growing number of the population has become our government longtime concern thus the KB (KeluargaBerencana) (family planning) program is introduced. However, the indifference and the lack of knowledge on the program among the general public has imperiled its effectiveness. To achieve the goal, the government via BKKBN (BadanKependudukandanKeluargaBerencanaNasional) (National Population and Family Planning Board)has the initiative by optimizing the role of local government in advancing the program through the KB Kampongs. This research aims to discover the effectiveness of the family planning kampong program in initiating the concept of independent small family. The research design employs descriptive analysis with qualitative approach that was conducted in Kelurahan (urban community) TanjungUnggat in May 2019. The research respondents are BKKBN, local government, and the society of the KB kampong, using interviews and observations as the medium. From the interview sessions, in order to assess the effectiveness of the program, it is revealed that the respondents especially the officials and stakeholders in majority are well-informedand aware about the program and the goal of the program, and it is worth noted that the continuum of its implementation is as planned and in progress. However, the immediate result is still far from perfect, in part the society due to the indifference but the programoverall shows positive progress and the society begin to willingly participate as they grow and understand better. In conclusion, as the result suggests, the KB Kampong program in promoting the concept of independent small family has not yet reached its success or effectiveness. In suggestion, the program needs to be pushed on and popularized to gain more exposures, for example, via seminaries and public talks, and any similar future research is expected to give reports on its progress.

Abstract

Stunting is impaired growth and development that children experience from a number of impacting factors with poor nutrition being one of them. Children are defined as stunted if their height-for-age is more than two standard deviations below the WHO Child Growth Standards median. According to the report of the Health Office of Batam in 2018, out of 20 puskesmas (community clinics) in the region, five of them recorded the highest prevalence of stunting among toddlers with Puskesmas Sei Lekop being the highest hitting 110 reported cases (0.89%). This research aims to discover the correlations between mother’s educational background and exclusive breastfeeding practice on the toddlerhood stunting prevalence in Puskesmas Sei Lekop, Batam, in 2019.The research design employs analytic method with cross-sectional approach. Conducted from April to August 2019, the research involves 97 respondents in total. The data analyzing technique employs chi-square. The findings reveal the correlations between mother’s educational background and the stunting prevalence among toddlers with ρ-value 0.01 < 0.05; and between exclusive breastfeeding practice and the stunting prevalence among toddlers with ρ-value 0.00 < 0.05. In conclusion, the findings confirm the correlations between mother’s educational background and exclusive breastfeeding practice on the stunting prevalence among toddlers. In suggestion, the following researchers who are interested in studying similar subject are expected to develop more detailed parametric variables and investigate other possible factors that may contribute or are related to stunting issues.

Abstract

Intra uterine Fetal Death (IUFD) refers to fetuses with no signs of life in utero, one of them due to asphyxia. In Indonesia, IUFD is making up to perinatal mortality rate of approximately 15 per 1000 live births. Reportedly, in Batam, the perinatal mortality rate was 4.7 per 1000 live births in 2017. According to the statistic released by Embung Fatimah General Hospital in 2018, the perinatal mortality rate related to IUFD is 26 per 317 live births. This research aims to discover the correlative factors on the prevalence of IUFD in Embung Fatimah General Hospital of Batam in 2018. The research design employs analytic survey with cross-sectional approach. The data collecting technique employs purposive sampling with total sample population of 76 women in labor. The univariate analysis is presented in the form of frequency distribution tables and the bivariate analysis applies chi-square with α <0.05. The bivariate findings reveal correlations between the age of the women and IUFD prevalence with ρ-value 0.003; between parity and IUFD prevalence with ρ-value 0.00; between pregnancy intervals and IUFD prevalence with ρ-value 0.015; and between hypertension and IUFD prevalence with ρ-value 0.01. In suggestion, healthcare workers and professionals are expected to advocate general public and especially women about the information about perinatal mortality including IUFD and the potential causality risks.

Abstract

Data from the Ministry of Health of the Republic of Indonesia (Kemenkes) in 2015 showed that of 100,000 live births in Indonesia, 305 of them ended in the death of the mother. The high maternal mortality rate (MMR) – 305/100,000 live births – prompted the government to carry out structural interventions; one of them is to include the target for reducing the MMR in the 2014-2019 National Medium-Term Development Plan (RPJMN). In the 2014-2019 RPJMN, the government targets a reduction in the MMR from 205/100,000 births to 276/100,000 live births. This study was to analyze the relationship between maternal age, education, and occupation with mother's knowledge of the danger signs of pregnancy at the Pelambuan Health Center. Methods: Cross sectional research design with Accidental Sampling technique. The study population was all pregnant women in the working area of the Pelambuan Health Center with a total of 359 people. Descriptive and statistical data analysis using chi-square test and multiple logistic regression test. The results of the chi-square test showed that there was a relationship between maternal age (0.001), parity (0.001), occupation (0.000), and knowledge of pregnant women. Results: Based on the results of the study, it is known that respondents with age at risk (<20 years ->35 years) are 26 respondents (80%). This number is more when compared to respondents who have a non-risk age (20-35 years) as many as 4 respondents (20%). The relationship between parity and knowledge of pregnant women about the danger signs of pregnancy showed that the respondents with the age at risk (<20 years ->35 years) were 52 respondents (80%). This number is more when compared to respondents who have a non-risk age (20-35 years) as many as 13 respondents (20%). This study has a relationship between the age of pregnant women and the knowledge of pregnant women in recognizing the danger signs of pregnancy in the Pelambuan Health Center Work Area because it is associated with a high risk of pregnancy, the risk of pregnancy arises because they are not ready psychologically or physically. Psychologically, generally adolescents aged < 21 years are not ready to become mothers, as a result, apart from being unprepared, their pregnancies are not well maintained. This unhealthy psychological condition can make contractions during labor not run smoothly so that the possibility of the delivery process will be risky.

Abstract

Malnutrition problem is the main focus of the President of Indonesia. In this case President Joko Widodo and World Bank President Jim Yong Kim discussed the stunting problem or malnutrition which reached number of children in the country. Malnutrition in the Riau Islands Province in 2017 was a parental problem (63.4%). One of a series of sustained and guided activities to ensure optimal growth and development of infants rolled out by the government is the "TODDLER’S FAMILY DEVELOPMENT" Program. The Ministry of Health reported that around 150.8 million toddlers in the world experienced stunting and 17.7% of children in Indonesia experienced malnutrition. Several factors that affect the sustainability of the toddler’s family development program among which is influenced by toddler’s families. Lack of sufficient level of education in caring for and educating children can affect the development of toddlers. The purpose of this study is to determine whether there is a relationship between knowledge and attitudes of mothers towards the visit of mothers in the Toddler Family Development Group. This study adopted an analytical survey research design using the Cross Sectional approach carried out in the South Toapaya Village of Toapaya subdistrict in March-August 2019. The population and sample were 31 mothers with a total sampling technique. From the data analysis using chi square, the results of 31 mothers of toddlers were mostly obtained good knowledge (71%), good attitude (71%) and irregular visits of mothers to the Toddler Family Development Group (68%). Statistical test results have a relationship between knowledge where p = 0.001 <0.05, and attitude p = 0.001 <0.05. In conclusion, there is a significant relationship between knowledge and attitude with the visit of a mother with toddler in South Toapaya Village, Toapaya District. It is suggested that the Toddler Family Development Program is able to support cadres to develop and form a Toddler’s Family Development Group in other villages
