Abstract

This article describes Yudian Wahyudi's thoughts regarding Maqasid al-Syari’ah as a method of solving contemporary problems in Indonesia. The primary data of this research was obtained from Yudian's writings about Maqasid al-Syari’ah. The secondary data were obtained from authoritative, up-to-date, and relevant literature sources. This study finds an Indonesian Maqasid al-Syari’ah theory, which is different from the Classical and Contemporary Maqasid al-Syari’ah. Indonesian Maqasid al-Syari’ah wants to harmonize between Maqasid al-Syari’ah (five primary needs or zharuriyyat al-khams) and IndonesianMaqasid (based on Pancasila). Maqasid al-Syari’ah Yudian's idea rests on four pillars, namely: tauhidul 'ulum (unity of knowledge) between Ayat Qur’aniyah, Kauniyah, and Insaniyah (zharuriyat ats-tsalasah) as the embodiment of the slogan al-Ruju' ila al-Qur'an wa al-Sunnah (Return to the Qur'an and Sunnah), the theory of pairing in Islamic law (ilahi-wad'i, absolute-relative, universal-local, eternal-temporary, and literal-meaning), method (Maqasid al -Syari'ah as an analytical knife or point of view to read the reality that is around us), and matters related to Indonesia. Meanwhile, Maqasid Indonesia is based on the five basic values of the goals of the Indonesian nation as embodied in Pancasila (Salam Pancasila): divinity (hifdz al-din), humanity (hifdz al-nafs), unity (hifdz al-nasl), deliberation and wisdom (hifdz al-’aql), and social justice (hifdz al-mal). The results of this study can have implications for the development and alignment factors of the Maqasid al-Syari’ah theory, which is unique to Indonesia. Indonesian Maqasid al-Syari’ah is a strengthening of the foundation of Usul al-Fiqh and Indonesian Fiqh.

Abstract

Poverty and hunger are significant issues in Indonesia. Non-governmental organizations also participate in poverty alleviation programs through philanthropic actions, including at the local level such as in Surakarta. This study aims to analyses philanthropic practices within the Dahar Gratis Community, Surakarta. The study is qualitative research and employs the theory of creative philanthropy proposed by Helmut K Anheier and Diana Leat (2006), focusing on the charity approach. The findings reveal that the Dahar Gratis Community sparks generosity and solidarity among its members by distributing food to the impoverished, thereby building a periodically empowered society. While operating at the local level, especially among young people, the community strives to provide global influences. The community managers believe that generosity is contagious, inspiring many to follow the same path of sharing with those in need. The Dahar Gratis Community also enhances philanthropic awareness in the community, particularly in Surakarta. This program proves effective in creating positive changes, notably in alleviating hunger and fostering generosity. Achieving a hunger-free society aligns with the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) of zero hunger.

Abstract

Anti-feminism is a movement that is more opposed to reaffirming, maintaining, and increasing the subordination of women by patriarchal forces. For this movement, feminist thinking can lead to deviant actions because these thoughts are not in accordance with religious teachings. The group then uses digital media channels to create anti-feminism narratives which are published on Islamic faith-based information websites. The purpose of this study is to reveal how the representation of feminism in Islami.co media acts as a counter-narrative against anti-feminism discourse echoed by other Islamic groups. This study uses a qualitative descriptive approach. The data collection technique was a literature study of documents from various references and the results of media analysis of Islami.co. The data analysis method used is the framing analysis model of William Gamson and Andre Modgliani which is elaborated with the perspective of Representation Theory by Stuart Hall. The result of the study shows that Islami.co is a digital media counter-narratives against anti-feminist discourse. The representation of feminism in this media is interpreted as part of the struggle of Islam in forming the spirit of justice for all mankind. Islami.co packs facts and clarifies the counter-narrative of anti-feminism discourse through authentic sources such as the Qur’an and hadith as well as various arguments that rely on empirical data. This effort is not just for creating justice and equality, but also as a form of obedience to what is commanded by Islam.

Abstract

This paper delves into the exploration of economic principles within Qur’anic exegesis. The focus centers on the elucidation of economic equity by, Muhammad Amin al-Shinqiti, as expounded in his tafsir “Adwa’ al-Bayan fī Idah al-Qur’an bi al-Qur’an.” A key emphasis is placed on al-Shinqiti’s comprehensive analysis of economic equity within Surah al-Hasyr [59]: 7. Additionally, al-Shinqiti contextualizes the verse to argue that the booty (al-fay’), as mentioned in the verse, should be reclaimed and channeled into state revenues. Employing Hassan Hanafi’s social hermeneutics framework, this article draws the conclusion that al-Shinqiti critically evaluates both capitalist and socialist economic theories. Al-Shinqiti, through his interpretation, asserts that the fundamental essence of the verse is the eradication of favoritism, thus propelling the attainment of economic equity. Al-Shinqiti distinguishes economic equality from economic equity, contending that the former is an unattainable objective. Furthermore, he advocates for an Islamic economic system characterized by a limited free economy, impartial distribution of state resources, and a focus on the comprehensive welfare of society. This exploration sheds light on Al-Shinqiti’s nuanced perspective on economic principles and provides valuable insights into the Islamic economic framework.

Abstract

Catcalling is a form of sexual harassment involving the use of indecent language towards victims, typically women. While it is commonly assumed that catcalling targets female victims based on the exposure of certain body parts, it is noteworthy that women, even those who wear modest clothing or even a niqab, also experience catcalling. This article delves into the phenomenon of catcalling as experienced by niqabi. Data for this study were generated through field research conducted in Surakarta, utilizing in-depth interviews with ten niqabis of various ages and educational backgrounds. Employing a phenomenological approach and applying Blumer's theory of symbolic interactionism, the study reveals diverse causes, forms, and impacts of catcalling on women who wear the niqab. Despite facing catcalling, these niqabis employ both active and passive strategies to protect themselves. This research sheds light on the multifaceted aspects of catcalling experienced by women who choose to wear the niqab. This article contributes to the discussion on the issue of sexual harassment against women and the study of the dynamics of niqabi women.
