Abstract

This study analyzes how corporate governance influences the profitability of FTSE 100 firms in the United Kingdom. Specifically, the study examines the effects of board size, CEO duality, board diversity, and board independence on the return on assets (ROA) of FTSE 100 companies listed on the London Stock Exchange. The research adopts a quantitative design with a positivist worldview. Panel data were drawn from the annual financial statements of FTSE 100 firms listed on the London Stock Exchange for the year 2021, with a study period spanning 2011–2021. Data analysis was conducted using Ordinary Least Squares (OLS) techniques. Results indicate that board size has a negative effect on ROA, while CEO duality has a significantly positive effect on ROA. Additionally, board diversity has a significantly positive effect on ROA, whereas board independence has a positive but non-significant effect on the ROA of FTSE 100 firms in the UK. Based on these findings, the study recommends: (i) appointing qualified candidates to the board based on their credentials; (ii) given the global push for greater female boardroom participation, measures should be implemented to increase the percentage of women on company boards; (iii) increasing the number of independent directors on the board, considering their credentials, expertise, capabilities, and experience to perform their duties; (iv) ensuring that the chair of the board and the CEO remain independent to enhance oversight and improve firm performance.

Abstract

This study explores the application of the thematic method in Aqidah Akhlak for Grade V students at Madrasah Ibtidaiyah and identifies the supporting and hindering factors that influence its effectiveness. Using a qualitative approach through interviews, observations, and documentation, the research reveals that thematic learning enables students to engage more actively in the learning process. The method provides opportunities for students to connect religious values with real-life experiences through discussions, critical thinking, and hands-on activities. The findings indicate that supporting factors include a conducive learning environment, adequate learning resources, and relevant curriculum design. On the other hand, obstacles such as limited teacher understanding of thematic planning and students’ perception of excessive assignments remain challenges. Despite these constraints, the thematic approach proves effective in enhancing students’ learning motivation and character development. This study suggests that ongoing teacher training and collaborative learning strategies are essential to improve the implementation of thematic learning in Islamic education settings.  The findings imply that effective thematic learning in Aqidah Akhlak requires well-prepared teachers and supportive learning environments.

Abstract

As a newly established institution, the Sunan Doe Institute still faces various limitations, one of which is the laboratory of the Tarbiyah and Tadris Faculty. The absence of this laboratory has a significant impact on the skills and experience of the practicum of science students, especially in the chemical and science study programs. Chemistry is a branch of science that studies concepts at the macroscopic, submicroscopic, and symbolic levels, so that chemistry learning really requires supporting facilities in the form of laboratories. One material that demands understanding at the three levels is the concept of acid-base titration. With the unavailability of laboratories within the Sunan Doe Institute, lecturers are required to provide alternative learning media that are able to provide virtual practicum experience. One solution that can be used is interactive multimedia, which is able to simulate practicum activities and encourage active student participation. This study uses a 4D development model developed by Thiagarajan. The results of product validation by material experts show a percentage of feasibility of 90.80% with valid categories without revision. Assessment by media experts obtained a value of 96.19% with the valid category and did not require revision. Small group trials produce a score of 90.78%, also in the valid category and do not need to revise. Based on these results, the interactive multimedia of the acid-base titration developed is declared valid and suitable for use in learning activities.
