Abstract

This study aims to describe the form, function, process, and typology of abbreviations in self-evaluation reports on study program accreditation forms. The research method used is descriptive qualitative. The data sources for this research are various abbreviations used in self-evaluation reports for accreditation forms in study programs. Analysis of the research data using the flow model of analysis. The results showed (1) the form of abbreviation includes abbreviations, acronyms, contractions, fragments, and letter symbols, (2) the function of abbreviations includes (a) to save on the use of long words by retaining the letters or syllables of words or phrases its formation, (b) bringing out language variations in written works, and (c) so that writing is more practical. (3) The process of forming abbreviations includes retaining the first letter, retaining the first letter and removing conjunctions, retaining the first syllable, and summarizing the lexemes of the basic forms. Abbreviation typology in Indonesian-language newspapers consists of 5 types including (1) maintenance of the first letter, 2) maintenance of the first letter by omitting the assignment word, 3) maintenance of the first letter and fulfillment of phonotic rules, 4) maintenance of syllables and fulfillment of phonotic rules, 5) syllable maintenance, omission of the word assignment, and fulfillment of phonotactic rules, Keywords: Self-Evaluation Sheet, Accreditation Form, Abbreviation Typology

Abstract

This study aims to know and master teaching materials as part of the study of syntactic learning problems. This study uses a type of qualitative research to build knowledge through understanding and discovery. The subjects in this study were lecturers and students. Lecturers and students were used as the main research subjects because the informants were the executors of the teaching and learning process, especially the lecturers as the implementation of the development of teaching materials. The data collection method is through observation and part of the literature review related to the focus of this research. The results of this study indicate that teaching materials are part of the study of the problems of syntactic learning. This is because choosing and determining teaching materials is a problem that educators often face in the learning process. The success of the learning process depends on the design and arrangement of teaching materials. Teaching materials can be interpreted as any form of material that is arranged systematically which allows students to learn independently and is designed in accordance with the applicable curriculum.Keywords: Teaching materials, syntax learning problems.

Abstract

One of the aims of this research is to (1) explain the types of syntactic errors that occur in single sentences in descriptive essays written by students who meet high academic standards, and (2) explain the types of syntactic errors that occur in compound sentences written by students. that meets high academic standards. This research is qualitative research. This research involved high class students whose mother tongue was Batak. The data used in this research are single and compound Indonesian sentences that violate language at the syntactic level in their free essays. The results showed that 13 out of 18 students, or 72 percent of the students, made mistakes in their essays. The results showed that high class students who spoke Batak as their mother tongue made syntactic errors in one single sentence. These syntactic errors are (1) sentences that are ungrammatical, (2) sentences that are not coherent, (3) sentences that are ineffective, and (4) sentences that are influenced by the Batak language. Syntactic errors in equivalent compound sentences are (1) equivalent compound sentences that are ungrammatical, (2) equivalent compound sentences that are not coherent, and (3)equivalent compound sentences that are ineffective, and (4) equivalent compound sentences. Keywords: syntax errors, Indonesian essays, Batak mother tongue.

Abstract

This research is aimed at describing the verbal competence of down syndrome in different age of Peli and Sutan based on bioacustic analysis by using spektogram Speech Analyzer. A objectives of the research are to analyze the competence in phonology and morphlogy and to identify the factors which affect the difference of verbal competence between P and S. This research is a case study of two students at SLB Negeri 1 Padang. Methods used to collect data are observation and analytics, session study, and preobservation. Participacy observation (SLC), non participatory observation (SBLC), recording, note,  taking recording by using speech analyzer, flash card, are the technique. In data analysis used articulator  to present the result of analysis is implemented fornal and informal method. The source of the data this research is oral data  which are taken from the patients of down syndrome said, they are P and S.  Based on the data analysis, the result of productivity competence of P based on bioacoustics analysis by using spektogram SA audacity and the research instrument in form of flash card (FC), it is in the range of 20,30 dB. While the result of productivity competence of S based on bioacoustics by using spectogram SA audacity and research instrument in the form of flash card (FC), it is in the range of 14,25 dB. P is able can understand the affixation usage outline of flash card (FC)  showed to him. There are 6 kinds of affixations  produced by P and 11 form by P. Different from S who has not  able to produce affixation at all, because syllable which has been able to produced tent to the end of the sylablle for every flash card which is show to S. The factors which influence the difference of verbal competence of DS in different age for P and S, they are disturbance of attention, memory interruption, disturbance of emotions and feelings, and psychological factor. Abstract

This study discusses the word order of the Mandailing language in a syntactic typology review. In collecting data, the method of listening and literature review was used. In reviewing the data needed in this paper, the agih method is used. The results of data analysis in this paper are presented with informal methods and formal methods. In the Mandailing Batak language, there are two types of word order. Verbal word order and nominal word order. The dominant order pattern is found in sentences that begin with a verb and are followed by a noun that functions as a subject. While the alternative order pattern is found in the nouns that fill the function of the subject and object which are put forward. The word order in the Mandailing Batak language has a V-S-O dominant pattern, and the alternative sequence pattern is S-V-O, OVS, V-O-S. In the SVO sequence in the Mandailing language, the elements that fill the S function can be filled by three categories, namely nouns, personal pronouns, and demonstrative pronouns. The word order of type VOS is a variant of the word order of type SVO. This word order has two kinds of models. The first model is an element of the subject function filler category consisting of definite nouns, the second model is an element of the subject function filler category consisting of non-definite nouns. Keyywords: linguistic, typology, syntax, Mandailing’s language.

Abstract

This study aims to determine whether students' translation skills can have a good effect using the Duolingo application for class VIII students using quantitative and qualitative methods. This research was conducted on 15 students of class VIII MTs Panca Dharma Padang Sidempuan. The results of this study indicate that the use of the Duolingo application is effective. This is evidenced by the data collected in the field. At that time the results of the pre-test were still bad. Then at the post-test stage 100% achieved the minimum completeness criteria. Therefore, related to the results of observations showed that students experienced an increase. Based on the students who passed the KKM above, it means that the actions taken were successful. The suggestion of this research to other researchers is to use the Duolingo application to help students' translation skills. Keywords: Duolingo, Translation

Abstract

This paper discusses the discourse of postkolonial studies using BREAK theory approach. In this paper discussed two different works or discourses which equally written in the post-colonial period, Tenggelamnya Kapal van der Wijck by Prof. Dr. H. Abdul Malik Karim Amrullah (HAMKA) and “Inilah Sejarah Ringkas Aulia Allah Assalihin Syekh Burhanuddin Ulakan yang Mengembangkan Agama Islam di Daerah Minangkabaui” by Imam Maulana Abdul Manaf Amin al-Khatib (IMAM). The objective of the analysis toward these two works is to see the existence of both works, as two discourses that influence on the ideologi of the society, which can be viewed from various aspects of discourse. Based on the analysis of the discourse by using the BREAK theory, it can be concluded: 1) with a different essence, both works have the same spirit, 2) with the background of the same period and origin of the author, in both works can also be found various ideological and power relations that can connect the two, and 3) from the differences, both works have balance, which will produce the sustainability of both of them.Keywords: postkolonial discourse, ideology and power, theory BREAK

Abstract

Humans need communication to help survival, one of which is by using language as a means of communication. Language is the most effective communication tool in conveying messages, thoughts, feelings, goals to others and allows for creating cooperation between humans. So that the role of language becomes very dominant in various human daily activities. The purpose of this study is to describe matters relating to language as a means of communication and communication in everyday life. The method used in this research is the literature review method, the data are collected from relevant literature data. The result of this research and discussion is to explain about language as a communication tool which discusses the function of language as a human communication tool which includes five basic functions, namely the function of expression, the function of information, the function of exploration, the function of persuasion, and the function of entertainment. And explain about communication in everyday life which discusses why we communicate and the language used when communicating in everyday life. As social beings, of course humans in their lives need communication to be able to establish relationships with other humans. Language is the most effective tool or medium for conveying thoughts, with human language being able to interact and talk about anything. Abstract

This study aims to describe the realization of politeness in the language of lecturers and students in learning Indonesian at IAIN Padangsidimpuan. This type of research is qualitative and quantitative research using descriptive methods. The data collection techniques in this study were (1) observation, (2) recording, and (3) recording. To ensure the validity of the data collected, three techniques were carried out consisting of (1) observation persistence, (2) triangulation, and (3) referential adequacy (Moleong, 2007: 329). The approach used in this study is a descriptive qualitative and quantitative approach, namely primary data obtained by direct observation of the teaching and learning process between Indonesian language lecturers and students in the classroom. The formulation of the problem that has been determined will be answered in this study by using the theory that is set as an analytical knife to process field data in this study, namely: the study of language politeness theory. Sources of data used in this study by collecting primary data and secondary data, the primary data of this study were obtained directly during the teaching and learning process. it is concluded that the realization of politeness in the language of lecturers and students in learning Indonesian is the form of verbal and nonverbal speech which is divided into declarative, imperative and interrogative forms of speech. The principle of politeness in language focuses on the category of wisdom maxims. The results of this study are grouped into the realization of politeness in the language of lecturers and students in learning Indonesian on students' learning motivation at IAIN Padangsidimpuan. Based on the results of data analysis, the ranking of types of speech acts used by Indonesian language lecturers at IAIN Padangsidimpuan in the teaching and learning process was obtained. In the declarative form of speech is 66.66% with 66.95% nonverbal occurrence, then the imperative speech form is 16.67% with 15.55 percent nonverbal occurrence, and the third order is interrogative speech form of 16.67% with 17 nonverbal occurrences, 5%. Keywords: realization, language politeness, Indonesian language learning.

Abstract

This study aims to determine the causes of problems or problems that often arise in the world of education. In this case, the main cause is the lack of curiosity about reading, whether it is the purpose of reading, the benefits of reading, the important role of reading for oneself and the surrounding environment. The cause of problems in writing is not knowing where to start. Too many things that seem to be the same make it difficult for people to be interested. I don't have the right language. To imagine that everything is already known to everyone. The method used in this research is to collect accurate data through interviews, recording, and taking notes. The expected results in this study are to be able to solve the problems of low reading, increase interest in reading, foster creativity in reading, develop knowledge by reading, change consumptive thinking patterns by reading and writing.Keywords: problematic, reading, writing.
