Abstract

Sentence structure in WhatsApp conversations among peers is usually simple, brief, and tends to be informal, with frequent use of single sentences that are flexible and do not always follow standard grammar. Communication through WhatsApp prioritizes fluency, speed, and expressive intimacy over adherence to formal grammatical structures. This study uses a literature review method as the main technique for data collection. The data analysis technique in this study uses a qualitative approach focusing on the analysis of content and sentence structure comprehensively. Data is obtained from WhatsApp conversation transcripts arranged according to the conversation context, and then analyzed descriptively by identifying various forms of sentence structures according to syntactic theory. A qualitative analysis of the syntactic aspects in sentence structures in WhatsApp conversations among peers shows that the sentences used are generally short and incomplete. The use of elliptical sentences, which are sentences that omit elements such as the subject or predicate, is very common in these interactions. This phenomenon reflects a tendency to convey messages briefly and effectively, in line with the characteristics of digital communication that demand speed and efficiency in delivering information. The language style used in these conversations is casual and informal. Therefore, the results of this study confirm that sentence structures in WhatsApp conversations among peers are more flexible and functional compared to the formal sentence structures typically found in official or academic communication.

Abstract

This study aims to describe the improvement of elementary school students’ reading fluency through the use of structured reading materials. The study employed a qualitative approach with a case study design conducted at the Grase Tutoring Center. The research subjects consisted of five fourth-grade elementary school students who experienced difficulties in reading fluency. Data were collected through observation, oral reading tests, interviews, and documentation. Data were analyzed qualitatively through data reduction, data display, and conclusion drawing. The results indicate that the implementation of structured reading materials effectively improved students’ reading fluency. Improvements were observed in reading accuracy, reading speed, smoothness without unnecessary pauses, and reading intonation. The average reading fluency score increased from 58.4 in the pre-test to 78.4 in the post-test. In addition, students demonstrated increased self-confidence and higher engagement during the reading instruction process. These findings suggest that structured reading materials can serve as an effective alternative instructional strategy to enhance the reading fluency of elementary school students, particularly those who still experience reading difficulties.

Abstract

The use of Indonesian in online communication and public spaces is increasingly changing due to the impact of globalization, technological advances, and societal language habits. The purpose of this study is to identify and explain various forms of deviation in the use of Indonesian in various communication contexts, both spoken and written. The method used was observation with a descriptive qualitative approach. The results of the observations revealed various linguistic problems, such as spelling and punctuation errors, inappropriate sentence structure, non-standard word choice, code-mixing and code-switching, ambiguous or illogical sentences, and language deviations in public spaces such as banners and social media. Several influencing factors include informal communication habits, a lack of awareness of proper and correct language, and the dominance of foreign and regional languages in everyday interactions. These findings demonstrate the importance of improving linguistic literacy in society to maintain the function of Indonesian as a language of unity and national identity, especially in the ever-evolving digital era.

Abstract

This study synthesizes effective instructional strategies for enhancing speaking skills among primary school learners through a qualitative meta-synthesis of thirty-four empirical studies. The analysis examines convergent findings across communicative, narrative, multimodal, collaborative, and formative approaches to identify core mechanisms supporting oral language development. Results indicate that meaningful communicative interaction, structured narrative organization, multimodal reinforcement, peer-based collaboration, and continuous formative feedback collectively contribute to substantial improvements in fluency, coherence, and expressive clarity. The cross-method consistency suggests that speaking proficiency emerges not from isolated techniques but from the interplay of cognitive, affective, and social learning processes. The resulting conceptual model offers an integrated framework for teachers to design holistic speaking instruction. Practically, this study highlights the importance of interactive, multimodal, and collaborative strategies in strengthening communication competence in primary education.

Abstract

The film "Tangkal" by Naza Manas is a work that depicts power relations in the context of Malay culture, focusing on the figure of Pak Long Akbar as a healer who is respected in society. Through analysis using the theory of power relations by Michel Foucault, this film shows how power is not only centered in formal institutions, but is also spread in everyday social interactions. In this film, Pak Long Akbar has significant power in healing practices, where society believes in his ability to overcome spiritual problems that are considered unsolvable by conventional means. However, on the other hand, there is resistance from his son, Bullah, who tries to oppose his father's practices which are considered idolatrous and not in accordance with religious teachings. The conflict between Pak Long and Bullah reflects resistance to existing power, where Bullah struggles to change society's perspective on the healing practices carried out by his father. Bullah shows concern about the risks that Pak Long might face and tries to remind his father of the potential dangers of the practice. In this case, Bullah not only rejects his father's power, but also tries to direct society to a path that is more in accordance with religious teachings. This tension between tradition and modernity creates a complex dynamic, where Bullah tries to find his own identity in the context of different values. Overall, the film "Tangkal" depicts how power relations operate in society through the interactions between the existing characters. Through this analysis, we can see that power is not only oppressive, but also produces resistance and subjectivity. The film functions as a mirror that reflects the ongoing social and cultural dynamics, and shows how individuals can play an active role in existing power relations. Thus, "Tangkal" is not only a work of art, but also a tool for social reflection and education for its audience, inviting them to reflect on the values that exist in society and how they can contribute to positive social change.
