Parental violence against children has been a prevalent issue with far-reaching impacts on child development. This study explores the effects of such violence on children’s psychological well-being through a systematic literature review, focusing on physical, psychological, and social dimensions. The research problem addresses the need for a deeper understanding of how parental violence shapes children’s self-esteem, social interactions, and overall mental health. Thematic analysis was employed to categorize findings, revealing significant adverse effects across multiple domains, including increased anxiety, social withdrawal, and reduced self-worth. These findings underscore the critical need for preventive interventions to safeguard children’s psychological welfare. Abstract

Stunting is a medical condition characterized by height significantly below the standard -2 SD z-score, adversely affecting children's physical growth and cognitive development. This study aims to analyze the correlation between basic immunization records, infectious disease history, and stunting prevalence in Cot Seumeureung Puskesmas, Aceh Barat. A quantitative cross-sectional method was employed, utilizing Chi-Square analysis (p-value < 0.05 indicating significance). Findings revealed a significant association between lack of immunization and previous infections, such as diarrhea (p=0.004, RP=1.63), with the incidence of stunting. These results underscore the crucial role of immunization and regular health monitoring as preventive measures. Furthermore, the study highlights the need for strengthened public health strategies to reduce stunting rates, emphasizing comprehensive immunization coverage and early intervention for infectious diseases. Future research could explore additional factors, including maternal nutrition and environmental conditions, contributing to stunting.

Abstract

Stunting is a serious health issue that impedes optimal child growth, particularly due to inadequate height for age. This study aims to examine the relationship between exclusive breastfeeding and maternal knowledge levels with stunting prevalence in the Cot Seumeureung Public Health Center region, Aceh Barat. Employing a cross-sectional research design, the study involved 95 toddlers selected through proportional random sampling. Data were analyzed using Chi-Square statistical tests to determine associations between the variables under study. Results indicate a significant correlation between exclusive breastfeeding and stunting prevalence (p=0.002), as well as between maternal knowledge and stunting incidence (p=0.001). The findings highlight that exclusive breastfeeding and maternal knowledge are critical factors in stunting prevention, underscoring the importance of enhanced breastfeeding education for mothers as a preventive measure.

Abstract

Nutritional issues in children aged 0-59 months are critical, as this age group is particularly vulnerable to dietary changes affecting nutritional status. Weaning, defined as the transition from breastfeeding to solid foods, and maternal knowledge are considered key factors influencing child nutrition. This study aims to examine the impact of weaning age and maternal knowledge on the nutritional status of children aged 0-59 months in the Johan Pahlawan Public Health Center area. A cross-sectional design with simple random sampling was used, involving 95 respondents. Data collection included questionnaires and nutritional status measurements. Chi-Square analysis revealed a significant relationship between maternal knowledge and child nutritional status (p=0.009), while no significant relationship was found between weaning age and nutritional status (p=0.126). These findings suggest that enhanced maternal knowledge plays a crucial role in improving child nutritional outcomes, whereas weaning age does not have a significant effect.

Abstract

This study examines the impact of maternal education and knowledge on early complementary feeding (MP-ASI) in children aged 6-12 months at the Cot Seumeureng Health Center, Samatiga District, West Aceh Regency. Early complementary feeding, initiated before six months, can hinder optimal exclusive breastfeeding practices. This cross-sectional study involved 94 mothers of infants aged six to twelve months, with data collected through questionnaires and analyzed using the Chi Square test. Results indicate a statistically significant relationship between maternal education and early complementary feeding (p=0.001, PR=2.1), as well as between maternal knowledge and early complementary feeding (p=0.002, PR=1.8). These findings underscore the role of maternal education and knowledge in shaping early feeding practices, highlighting the importance of tailored health education programs to promote exclusive breastfeeding. The study concludes that enhanced maternal knowledge through education is crucial for improving infant feeding practices.

Abstract

This study investigates the relationship between mothers' nutritional knowledge, dietary intake of children, and under-five nutritional status in Ranto Panyang, Meureubo Sub-district, West Aceh. Despite varied economic conditions, malnutrition persists, highlighting the critical role of maternal knowledge in determining children's nutrition outcomes. Employing a cross-sectional quantitative design, this study surveyed mothers in 2023 to assess their understanding of nutrition and its effects on child health. Findings reveal that 52.4% of mothers possess adequate nutritional knowledge, while 47.6% demonstrate limited awareness. A statistically significant association (p<0.05) was identified between maternal knowledge and the nutritional status of under-fives, suggesting that improved maternal education could positively impact child nutrition. These results underscore the necessity of targeted educational initiatives, particularly in regions with high malnutrition rates, to empower mothers with essential nutrition knowledge and foster healthier communities.

Abstract

This article examines the cultural customs of the Asahan community during the era of the Asahan Kingdom, a historically Malay kingdom with deep Islamic influences located in what is now North Sumatra. Although Malay culture is predominant, the region has also seen the integration of Toba Batak and Javanese communities, enriching its cultural landscape over time. This study aims to analyze the role of Malay culture in shaping Asahan’s identity within the broader context of East Sumatra. Using a qualitative approach that combines literature review and field observations, the research highlights the significant impact of Malay cultural values—especially in religious beliefs, customs, and enduring social practices—on local identity. These findings provide valuable insights into the forms and preservation of Malay cultural heritage in Asahan, emphasizing its relevance in fostering a cohesive community identity.
