Abstract

Introduction: Postoperative care at home remains a critical challenge, particularly in community settings where patients often lack adequate knowledge and support, leading to low compliance and increased risk of complications. Community-based nursing approaches offer a strategic solution to improve patient outcomes through education and continuous monitoring. This community service program aimed to improve postoperative care compliance among patients at home by implementing the Community Nursing Model. Methods: A quasi-experimental one-group pretest–posttest design was employed involving 35 postoperative patients. The intervention included health education, wound-care demonstrations, medication management counselling, and home visits with family involvement. Data were collected using questionnaires and observation checklists, and analyzed using comparative statistical methods. Results: The findings showed a significant improvement in all measured indicators. Mean knowledge scores increased from 58.2 to 84.3, compliance scores improved from 62.4 to 81.6, and proper wound care practices rose from 54% to 88%. These results indicate enhanced patient understanding, skills, and adherence following the intervention. Conclusion: The Community Nursing Model is effective in improving postoperative care compliance in community settings. Integrating education, family support, and continuous monitoring can strengthen home-based care and reduce the risk of complications.

Abstract

Introduction: Chronic diseases remain a major public health concern globally and in Indonesia, contributing significantly to morbidity, mortality, and decreased quality of life. Family involvement in home care has been identified as a key strategy to improve patient outcomes, yet many families lack adequate knowledge and skills to provide effective care. This study aimed to optimize family-based home care to improve the quality of life of patients with chronic diseases. Methods: This community service program involved 45 participants consisting of patients with chronic diseases and their family caregivers. A six-step intervention was implemented, including needs assessment, program planning, health education, caregiving skills training, mentoring, and evaluation. Data were collected using structured instruments to measure quality of life, medication adherence, and caregiving skills before and after the intervention. Results: The findings showed a significant improvement in all measured indicators. The mean quality of life score increased from 58.4 to 72.6, medication adherence improved from 61.3 to 78.9, and caregiving skills increased from 55.7 to 80.2. These results indicate that the intervention effectively enhanced both patient outcomes and family caregiving capacity. Conclusion: Optimizing family-based home care is an effective strategy to improve the quality of life of patients with chronic diseases. Strengthening family capacity through education, training, and continuous support can lead to sustainable improvements in home-based care.

Abstract

Introduction: Reproductive health remains a significant public health concern, particularly in communities with limited access to accurate information and services. Health cadres play a strategic role in delivering community-based education; however, their capacity in reproductive health education is often inadequate. This program aimed to empower health cadres in reproductive health education through a community midwifery approach. Methods: A community service program was conducted using a participatory approach with a one-group pretest–posttest design. A total of 25 health cadres participated in structured training sessions facilitated by midwives. The intervention included lectures, group discussions, role-playing, and case-based learning covering adolescent reproductive health, family planning, and prevention of sexually transmitted infections. Data were collected using structured questionnaires and analyzed using descriptive statistics and paired t-tests. Results: The findings showed a significant improvement in knowledge scores, increasing from a pretest mean of 55% to a posttest mean of 82%, indicating a 27% increase. In addition, cadres demonstrated improved communication and counseling skills during simulation sessions. The involvement of midwives contributed to a deeper understanding and the practical application of reproductive health education. Conclusion: The community midwifery approach is effective in improving the knowledge and skills of health cadres in reproductive health education. This model has the potential to strengthen community-based health promotion and should be considered for broader implementation.

Abstract

ntroduction: Stunting remains a persistent public health challenge in Indonesia, affecting child growth, cognitive development, and long-term productivity. Despite national policy efforts, gaps in implementation at the primary health care level continue to limit program effectiveness, particularly in community engagement and service utilization. This community service program aimed to strengthen the implementation of stunting prevention policies through a primary health care approach by enhancing the capacity of health workers and community health cadres, and improving household-level practices. Methods: A participatory approach was applied involving 50 participants, including health workers, cadres, and mothers of children under five. The program consisted of training sessions, nutrition education, mentoring of at-risk families, and routine growth monitoring over three months. Evaluation was conducted using pre- and post-test assessments, structured observations, and questionnaires. Results: The intervention resulted in a marked increase in knowledge scores (from 62.4 to 84.7). Appropriate feeding practices improved from 46% to 78%, while attendance at posyandu services increased from 58% to 85%. Early improvements in child growth indicators were observed, with 64% of children showing better weight-related outcomes. Conclusion: Strengthening primary health care capacity and community engagement effectively supports the implementation of stunting prevention policies. This approach demonstrates potential as a scalable model for accelerating stunting reduction in similar settings.
