Abstract

Clean and healthy living habits are an important foundation in preventing various diseases, especially those transmitted through bacteria, viruses, or germs. Good and correct handwashing and toothbrushing techniques are often considered simple, but their understanding and application in society is still not optimal. This program aims to increase public awareness and knowledge about the importance of washing hands and brushing teeth with the correct method as part of disease prevention efforts. Through an educational approach, the program provides hands-on training and practical demonstrations to the community, especially children and adolescents, on steps to wash hands with soap and brushing techniques that are in accordance with health standards. In addition, interactive counseling was held equipped with visual media and educational games to attract participants. The results of the program showed an increase in participants' understanding of the importance of personal hygiene as well as their ability to practice the techniques taught. This is expected to reduce the risk of infections, especially gastrointestinal diseases, and cavities, as well as build sustainable healthy living habits. This program has a positive impact in supporting the creation of a healthier and more productive society

Abstract

Stunting is one of the health problems that is still highly prevalent in Indonesia, especially in toddlers. This condition has a long-term impact on children's physical growth, cognitive development, and productivity in the future. One of the main factors causing stunting is the ignorance of parents or caregivers about the importance of balanced nutrition in the child's growth period. This community service activity aims to increase public knowledge and awareness, especially among mothers with toddlers, about the importance of providing balanced nutrition to prevent stunting. The method used in this activity is education through counseling, interactive discussions, and distribution of educational media through leaflets and posters. The activity was conducted at the Posyandu and involved health cadres and nutritionists. The evaluation results showed an increase in participants' knowledge by 75% based on the pre-test and post-test. This activity shows that direct and contextual balanced nutrition education can effectively prevent stunting in toddlers

Abstract

Academic writing is a fundamental skill that nursing students must develop to contribute effectively to the advancement of knowledge and evidence-based practice in healthcare. However, many students face challenges in organizing ideas, using appropriate scientific language, and understanding the structure of scholarly articles. This community service program aims to enhance nursing students' academic writing capacity through interactive workshops, hands-on mentoring sessions, and peer review activities. The program focuses on improving students’ ability to select relevant topics, conduct literature reviews, formulate research questions, and adhere to scientific writing conventions. The program's outcomes include increased student confidence in writing, improved quality of academic manuscripts, and a greater interest in publication and academic discourse. This initiative is expected to foster a culture of research and scholarly communication among nursing students, ultimately contributing to their educational and professional development

Abstract

The rising prevalence of non-communicable diseases (NCDs) such as hypertension, diabetes mellitus, and cardiovascular conditions poses a significant public health challenge, particularly among the productive age population. Early detection is essential to prevent complications and reduce the disease burden. However, limited human resources in primary healthcare often hinder optimal screening efforts. This community service initiative aimed to optimize the role of health volunteers in the early detection of NCDs through community nursing education. The program included participatory training sessions covering educational modules, practical simulations of blood pressure and glucose monitoring, and the development of effective health communication skills. Post-training evaluations significantly improved the volunteers’ knowledge and competencies in conducting independent NCD screenings. The outcomes suggest that community-based educational interventions can empower health volunteers as frontline agents in promotive and preventive healthcare. This model holds promise for sustainable community engagement in NCD control strategies.

Abstract

Adolescence is a critical period marked by significant physical, emotional, and psychological changes, especially related to reproductive health. However, the lack of access to accurate and age-appropriate information often leads to misunderstandings and risky behaviors. This community service program aims to increase awareness and understanding of reproductive health among adolescent boys and girls. The activity was carried out through interactive health education sessions, group discussions, and question-and-answer segments involving students from junior and senior high schools in Banjarmasin, South Kalimantan. The topics included puberty, reproductive system anatomy, personal hygiene, prevention of sexually transmitted infections (STIs), and the importance of making informed and responsible decisions. The results showed increased knowledge and positive attitude shifts toward reproductive health among participants, as assessed through pre- and post-activity questionnaires. This program highlights the importance of early and inclusive reproductive health education to support the development of healthy, confident, and responsible young individuals.

Abstract

Pregnancy is a critical period that requires comprehensive knowledge and adequate health care to ensure maternal and fetal well-being. However, many pregnant women, especially in rural or underserved areas, often lack access to accurate information and resources related to pregnancy care. This community service program aims to increase pregnant women’s knowledge and awareness regarding essential aspects of prenatal care through community-based health education. The activity was conducted in collaboration with local health centers and involved 30 pregnant women from the X village area in the third trimester. The method used was interactive health education delivered through counseling sessions, visual aids, and discussion forums, facilitated by professional nurses specializing in maternal care. Pre and post-intervention questionnaires were used to measure knowledge improvement. The results showed a significant increase in participants' knowledge, particularly in Nutrition, danger signs during pregnancy, the importance of antenatal visits, and personal hygiene. Participants reported feeling more confident and prepared to manage their pregnancy after the intervention. This program demonstrates that structured, community-based education can effectively empower pregnant women to make informed decisions and adopt healthier behaviors, ultimately reducing maternal and neonatal risks

Abstract

Implementing outcome-based Education (OBE) in higher education is a strategic approach to ensure that graduates possess competencies aligned with the workforce's needs and scientific development. In the context of Health Study Programs, adopting OBE is crucial to ensure that graduates can deliver safe, effective, and outcome-oriented health services. This community service activity aims to comprehensively review the Health Study Program curriculum using the OBE framework, particularly focusing on the alignment between Graduate Learning Outcomes (CPL), Course Learning Outcomes (CPMK), teaching methods, and assessment systems. The activity engages faculty members and study program managers through workshops and focused group discussions (FGDs) facilitated by experts. The review process centers on re-mapping the CPL to graduate profiles and stakeholder needs, constructing a curriculum matrix, and integrating performance-based assessment methods. The expected outcome of this initiative is a more systematic, measurable, and OBE-compliant curriculum document, thereby enhancing institutional readiness for national and international accreditation processes. By adopting an outcome-based curriculum, the educational process within the Health Study Program is expected to become more structured, responsive to the evolving demands of healthcare services, and capable of producing professionally competent and globally competitive graduates

Abstract

Diabetes mellitus is a chronic disease that requires comprehensive management and active participation from patients to prevent complications and improve quality of life. One of the most critical aspects of diabetes management is self-care, which encompasses diet regulation, regular physical activity, medication adherence, blood glucose monitoring, and stress management. However, patients’ perception of the disease and the length of time they have been suffering from it often influence their ability to implement effective self-care practices. This community service program aimed to provide self-care management education for patients with diabetes mellitus, tailored to their perception of the disease and the duration of their illness. The method used involved structured educational sessions, interactive discussions, and practical demonstrations tailored to patients’ levels of understanding and experiences in managing diabetes. Pre- and post-intervention assessments were conducted to evaluate changes in knowledge, attitudes, and perceived self-efficacy. The results indicated that patients with longer disease duration generally demonstrated higher awareness but also faced challenges in maintaining long-term self-care consistency. Meanwhile, newly diagnosed patients often underestimate the seriousness of diabetes, which affects their adherence to lifestyle modifications. The program successfully enhanced patients’ knowledge and motivated them to engage in sustainable self-care practices. Community-based education that considers disease perception and the length of suffering is therefore an effective strategy for empowering patients with diabetes mellitus to manage their health. This approach is expected to reduce complications, enhance overall well-being, and support public health initiatives in the management of chronic diseases
