Abstract

This article aims to describe the relevance of integrating religious values into public codes of ethics to drive social transformation within a multicultural society. Utilizing a narrative review method of previous literature, the article identifies the potential of religious moderation and local cultural values, such as gotong royong (mutual cooperation), as foundational elements to strengthen public ethics. The findings indicate that the application of religion-based public ethics in Indonesia has had a positive impact, including enhancing integrity, reducing corruption, and increasing public awareness of the importance of ethics in public life. Integration of religious values into public ethics holds significant potential to address social challenges in a diverse society like Indonesia. In conclusion, by harmonizing religious principles with cultural norms, public ethics can serve as a unifying framework that promotes inclusivity, accountability, and social harmony, thereby fostering a more just and ethical society

Abstract

The phenomenon of religious politicization, which entails the exploitation of religion for political gain, poses a serious threat to national unity by fostering divisions among religious communities and undermining democratic principles. This practice stands in stark contrast to the values of religious moderation, which emphasize justice, tolerance, and harmony. Through an exploration of Islamic moderation, this study highlights the concept of uswatun hasanah (a virtuous role model) as a strategic framework to mitigate the negative impacts of religious politicization. Employing a qualitative research approach focused on library research, the study conducts a thematic analysis of Qur'anic verses using descriptive-analytic methods. The findings reveal that religious politicization not only disrupts societal cohesion but also underscores the urgent need for religious moderation as a means to counteract the misuse of religion for political purposes. By advocating the emulation of positive role models, Islam provides a pathway to cultivate virtuous behavior and promote harmony. Furthermore, the concept of uswatun hasanah can be actualized both in society and the digital realm through the creation and dissemination of moderate content while actively filtering out hoaxes, misinformation, and divisive materials. These efforts highlight the pivotal role of uswatun hasanah in fostering interfaith harmony and protecting societal unity from the divisive effects of religious politicization.

Abstract

Marriage is seen as a social institution that legally binds two individuals, while divorce marks the legal and social end of that relationship. The complexity of marriage involves cultural, religious, and social factors, and family issues often lead to divorce. The aim of this study is to identify the causes and impacts of divorce. Using a case study approach and qualitative research methods, the study employs conflict theory as its theoretical framework. Conflict theory emphasizes how social, economic, and political factors influence marital dynamics, ultimately contributing to the likelihood of divorce. Marital conflicts can arise from an unequal division of household labor, differences in opinion, or infidelity, often triggered by emotional tension or unmet needs. External factors, such as financial difficulties, unemployment, or cultural differences, can further strain the relationship. Divorce is often seen as a response to perceived injustice within the marriage. If one partner feels exploited or if there is an imbalance of power, divorce may become a means of seeking justice. Conflict theory provides insights into how these social, economic, and political factors shape marital relationships, helping individuals understand the underlying causes of marital conflicts and the potential for divorce.

Abstract

This article discusses the transmedia storytelling process of Mili Kecil character in 2 (two) children's illustrated books. In this case, the transmedia approach is used to analyze the expansion of the character, from previously being a child in the real world to becoming a fictional character. The theoretical framework focuses on transmedia storytelling in the scope of character studies. The methodological approach is based on the transmedia character analysis model developed by Kunz and Wilde (2023). The research findings show that the transmedia strategy is seen in the character Mili Kecil, who in this case always appears and becomes the central point in the narration of the story in the two children's illustrated books. Furthermore, Mili Kecil's characteristic as a cheerful girl with curly hair and sunflowers, which is a marker of transmedial identity, always consistently appears in every story. On the other hand, instead of just following the storyline in this case, readers are also invited to take part in Mili's adventures through narratives presented as part of the subjective representation of Mili Kecil's character, although the limited target readership in author's opinion influences the expansion of Mili Kecil's emotional stance as a transmedial character.

Abstract

The land conflict between the residents of Pengudang Village and PT Buana Megawisatama (BMW) in Bintan Regency dates back to 1993, whenthe company offered compensation to local residents to relinquish their land at disproportionately low prices, accompanied by promises ofresidential plots and housing, most of which were never fulfilled. This imbalance triggered mounting tensions and protests from the community, culminating in demonstrations involving university students and resulting in repressive actions by security forces. This study aims to examine the root causes of the conflict in depth and to evaluate the effectiveness of various resolution efforts undertaken, including mediation and directinterventions by relevant stakeholders. Data were collected through in-depth interviews with informants selected via snowball sampling. The findings reveal that this conflict reflects structural tensions between local communities and corporate interests over access to and control of land, with significant social, economic, and environmental repercussions for the affected population. Despite the local government’s mediation efforts and land retribution initiatives.
