Abstract

This study aims to investigate the impact of learning motivation on the academic outcomes of fifth-grade students in mathematics at SDN Ciodeng, Cigudeg District, Bogor Regency. This study is motivated by the low learning outcomes of students who have not yet met the Minimum Completion Criteria (KKM) and the lack of motivation for learning. This is a quantitative study using a survey method with regression techniques. The sample in this study consisted of 31 students from class V.A. The instruments used in this study were a questionnaire to measure learning motivation and a test to measure students' learning outcomes in mathematics. Data analysis was conducted through validity, reliability, normality, linearity tests, and simple regression analysis using SPSS 22.0 software. The results of the study indicate that the students' learning motivation is in the high category, with an average score of 102.77, while the average learning outcome in mathematics is 82.58. The simple regression test results show a significance value of 0.000 < 0.05, indicating a positive and significant effect of learning motivation on mathematics learning outcomes. Therefore, the higher the students' learning motivation, the higher their mathematics learning outcomes.

Abstract

This study aimed to: (1) analyze the urgency of loving education in developing students' discipline character; (2) describe the concept of loving education from the perspective of Prof. Arif Rachman; and (3) formulate implementation strategies for loving education in fostering student discipline at SDIP. This study employed a descriptive-qualitative design with a case study approach. The research site was purposively selected based on the following criteria: (a) an A-accredited Islamic elementary school, (b) an integrated character development program, and (c) the implementation of a loving education approach. The study was conducted over six months (June–December 2024). Informants consisted of 1 principal, 1 vice principal for curriculum affairs, 6 homeroom teachers, 10 parents, and 12 students from grades 4–6, selected through purposive sampling with inclusion criteria: teachers with a minimum of 2 years of service, parents actively involved in school activities, and students with varying levels of discipline. Data were collected through participant observation, semi-structured in-depth interviews, and documentation study. Data analysis followed the Miles and Huberman model, encompassing data reduction, data display, and conclusion drawing with verification. Data trustworthiness was ensured through source triangulation and technique triangulation. The results indicated that the integration of loving education through five main strategies empathetic communication, teacher role modeling, positive reinforcement, dialogical approach, and school–parent synergy successfully cultivated discipline based on students' internal awareness. Indicators of success were evident in: improved punctuality in attendance, compliance with school rules without direct supervision, independent task completion, and a reduction in violations requiring punitive measures.

Abstract

Translation plays an important role in English language learning, particularly at the high school level in Indonesia, where students are often tasked with translating descriptive and narrative texts. The purpose of this study is to analyze students' perspectives in translating descriptive and narrative texts from English to Indonesian at SMAN 1 Gebang. The research method used in this study is qualitative by using a questionnaire as a data collection tool to see students' perspectives in translating descriptive and narrative texts using a Likert scale to measure students' perspectives in translating. The location of the study was conducted at SMAN 1 Gebang using a sample of 20 students selected through random sampling. The findings showed that 50% of students often had difficulty in understanding vocabulary, maintaining the original meaning of the text, and reformulating sentences in Indonesian. Some 40% of students relied heavily on context and tools such as dictionaries or online translators due to lack of mastery of vocabulary and understanding of translation strategies. In addition, 40% of students experienced cultural and linguistic differences between English and Indonesian identified as the main factors affecting translation results.
