Abstract

This study aimed to: (1) analyze the urgency of loving education in developing students' discipline character; (2) describe the concept of loving education from the perspective of Prof. Arif Rachman; and (3) formulate implementation strategies for loving education in fostering student discipline at SDIP. This study employed a descriptive-qualitative design with a case study approach. The research site was purposively selected based on the following criteria: (a) an A-accredited Islamic elementary school, (b) an integrated character development program, and (c) the implementation of a loving education approach. The study was conducted over six months (June–December 2024). Informants consisted of 1 principal, 1 vice principal for curriculum affairs, 6 homeroom teachers, 10 parents, and 12 students from grades 4–6, selected through purposive sampling with inclusion criteria: teachers with a minimum of 2 years of service, parents actively involved in school activities, and students with varying levels of discipline. Data were collected through participant observation, semi-structured in-depth interviews, and documentation study. Data analysis followed the Miles and Huberman model, encompassing data reduction, data display, and conclusion drawing with verification. Data trustworthiness was ensured through source triangulation and technique triangulation. The results indicated that the integration of loving education through five main strategies empathetic communication, teacher role modeling, positive reinforcement, dialogical approach, and school–parent synergy successfully cultivated discipline based on students' internal awareness. Indicators of success were evident in: improved punctuality in attendance, compliance with school rules without direct supervision, independent task completion, and a reduction in violations requiring punitive measures.

Abstract

Leadership regeneration is a determining factor for the sustainability of boarding school organizations, both traditional and modern. Boarding schools as value-based Islamic educational institutions face increasingly complex organizational dynamic challenges, especially related to the transition of leadership from one generation to the next. This article aims to analyze leadership regeneration and organizational dynamics in traditional and modern Islamic boarding schools through a conceptual approach based on literature review. This research uses a systematic literature review method sourced from accredited national journals and reputable international journals that are open access, as well as relevant academic books. The results of the study show that traditional boarding schools tend to rely on regeneration patterns based on charisma and lineage, while modern boarding schools are starting to develop structured and managerial regeneration systems. The conceptual contribution of this article lies in the comparative synthesis of leadership regeneration patterns in traditional and modern Islamic boarding schools and their implications for the dynamics of Islamic boarding school organizations in Indonesia.

Abstract

The translation of culture terms poses significant challenges because such terms embody cultural values, beliefs, and concepts that often lack direct lexical equivalents in the target language. Although previous studies have examined the cultural values embedded in the Peusijuek tradition, limited attention has been given to the translation procedures used to render its culture-bound terms into English. Therefore, this study aims to identify the categories of culture-bound terms found in the Peusijuek tradition and analyze the translation procedures employed in rendering them into English. A qualitative descriptive approach was adopted because it enables an in-depth analysis of translation procedures and their roles in preserving cultural meaning. The data were collected from Language and Cultural Values in the Peusijuek Tradition of Acehnese Society: An Anthropolinguistic Study by Salman, Irana, and Suri (2025). Cultural terms were first categorized based on Newmark's (1988) classification and subsequently analyzed using Pinchuck's (1977) translation procedures. A total of 32 occurrences (N = 32) of translation procedures were identified. The findings reveal that literal translation is the most frequently applied procedure (46.9%), followed by borrowing (25.0%), modulation (25.0%), and transposition (3.1%). The predominance of literal translation suggests that many cultural terms in the Peusijuek tradition can be translated directly without substantially altering their conceptual meanings, while borrowing is employed to preserve culture-specific terms that have no direct lexical equivalents in English. These findings highlight the importance of selecting appropriate translation procedures to balance semantic accuracy with cultural preservation. This study contributes to translation studies by providing empirical evidence of how translation procedures facilitate the transfer of culture-bound meanings while maintaining the authenticity of Acehnese cultural expressions, thereby supporting intercultural communication and the preservation of local cultural heritage.

Abstract

Hadih maja is an Acehnese cultural heritage containing advices, proverbs, and philosophical expressions that reflect moral, social, and cultural values. As times progress, the use of local languages decreases, necessitating efforts to introduce hadih maja to a wider audience through translation. Although there have been a number of studies on the translation of cultural expressions and proverbs, research that specifically analyzes the translation procedures of Acehnese hadih maja based on Pinchuck’s (1977) framework, particularly those sourced from official digital media, remains limited. This limitation indicates a research gap in the study of Acehnese cultural text translation. This research aims to describe the translation procedures used in translating Acehnese hadih maja from the source language into Indonesian as the target language, while integrating it as a contributive effort to preserve local language materials in education. The method used was descriptive qualitative through literature review techniques. From a population of 96 hadih maja data, 15 sample data were selected from an article by Teuku Muhammad Hanis, S.E., published on September 16, 2023, on the official website of Juli District, Bireuen Regency, to be analyzed deeply based on translation procedure theory. The results show that out of 15 analyzed data, the translation procedures were dominated by two types: literal translation with 8 data (53.33%) and modulation with 7 data (46.67%). Other procedures such as translation, transliteration, borrowing, transposition, and adaptation were not found. These findings indicate that the translation of hadih maja does not rely solely on linguistic equivalence, but also on the translator’s ability to perform a shift in perspective (modulation) in order to preserve the cultural meaning and moral messages embedded within the expressions. Thus, the translation process plays an important role as a form of cultural mediation in the transfer of meaning across languages. Theoretically, this study enriches translation studies by demonstrating how Pinchuck’s procedures operate in texts based on local wisdom. Practically, the results of this study can serve as a reference for translators, educators, and researchers in understanding strategies for translating culturally bound texts with rich contextual meanings.

Abstract

Tourism terminology carries specific sociocultural and operational concepts, requiring precise translation procedures to prevent communication gaps in digital media. While previous studies focus heavily on printed tourism brochures or websites, research addressing translation procedures in digital audiovisual educational content remains scarce. This descriptive qualitative study analyzes the translation procedures applied to technical tourism terms from Indonesian into English in a YouTube instructional video on Guru Dane’s channel. Data were sourced from the video transcript containing fifteen specialized tourism terms and analyzed based on Pinchuck’s (1977) and Newmark’s (1988) frameworks. The analysis reveals 18 operational applications of translation procedures: literal translation (8 applications; 44.4%), borrowing (4 applications; 22.2%), adaptation (4 applications; 22.2%), and modulation (2 applications; 11.1%). The findings highlight the strategic use of couplets combining two distinct procedures to bridge cultural registers. Literal translation dominates because translating foundational tourism terms in digital platforms prioritizes direct conceptual correspondence to deliver professionally acceptable technical messages. Theoretically, this study enriches register analysis in audiovisual translation. Practically, it provides a linguistic reference for educators and digital content creators in developing accurate bilingual learning materials.
